Personally, i like EVE better, for one because you're totally free to do whatever you want in EVE, and for two because i find WoW repetitive (trust me i have a lvl 71, and i've played with a friends 85, i just can't play WoW for over a week without quitting, i just get bored).
But i do respect WoW and i think it's a great game :), it's just that it's not my type of game.
Now I do realize that this video is pre cata, but imo, If I had to choose, I would pick WoW just becuse of all the effort invested. I have an eve account but all I do on there is mine for creds and plex.. One thing I like about Eve tough is the fact that you can do what you want unlike the limitations of Wow.

Depends what your after. WoW wraps players in a bubble of safety and only let's them do what Blizzard allows them to do. Want to Rob other players? Sorry can't do that. Eve is much more sandboxed, you can be whatever you want, and the consequences are brutal. You never respawn with gear. If your ship gets blown it's gone.
Eve is far from the quality that WoW has. Blizzard has so much ressources to make a quality game, CCP is poor and has lazy shitty developpers. The potentiel of Eve is great, but the way it's presently built, you'll never get more then the 45k players they have . How can you compare these two games, 10 millions players vs 45k players. Eve has the worst turnover ration in mmo history. Millions of players tried this game, most leave because of the way they poorly designed the sandbox gameplay

@TheStargateNerd I actually liked the old character creation better, cause you could choose what profession you studied for, so you got ALOT more starting skills, two of my current characters were made with that character creation :P
@TheStargateNerd Nope the factions dont affect it, the idea is that now you just get the skillbooks from the career tutorials, but in the old char creation you would already have like 2 weeks worth of training done when you started the character
If WoW changes and they come out with some new expansion set, you have to go shell out $50 or more to get it. When EVE comes out with any type of new expansions or updates or new stuff, it's included in the normal $15 per month subscription. [And, that's for people too new to rat and build enough to generate enough ISK to buy GTCs/PLEXes].
The only gripes I have are the soundtrack for EVE is suited to the setting: space. No other soundtrack other than techno/electronic music would fit given the situation.
Also, if you had read maybe some more history about the EVE universe rather than just the basic getting started history you would know about all the wars, the Minmatar slavery and where the pirates have come from, rather than just saying "and all that".
And with the new character creation I think EVE wins that without a doubt.

@Enlal Games are build on similar grounds yes, and i compared things that you find in MMORpgs ( and as far as i see Eve is one) like progression, social interactions, culture and so on and yes ive compared even the character creation although every game has one.But down to the core both game have been developed on the same criteria so yes you can compare them.

EVE is for the hardcore PVP elite that can accept the fact that when you lose your ship and you get podded you lose all that was there... and if u get podded twice in a row without upgrading ur clone you essentially restart the entire game.... its brutal and if u don't like it or don't get it. more free targets for me
I played EVE for 3 years and quit right after Incarna. It's way better than WoW if you have the patience however CCP made several big mistakes in the past year and a half.
1: They removed the 800k SPs of new characters.
2: They messed up with Dominion (Massive lag, broken sovereignty mechanics).
3: Incarna and the MT store.
Now they seem less focused on space and more on stations. EVE is not about stations. And CCPs trust and respect went down the drain with Hilmar's leaked email.

you can tell he has never really played EVE.. "storyline is, well, sufficient". i think you will find it has a much larger and more in depth storyline than wow.
Instead of comparing the soundtrack (which no1 listens to) and the tutorial which people play for an hour max, do a comparison of end game stuff thats what matters! thats what people spend time doing PVP or PVE. Anyway ive played both, and IN MY OPINION EVE is much better coz its evolving changing and new stuff is being added whereas wow same crap over and over again.

A Titan (the largest ships in EVE) is about as long as the length of WOW's Eastern Kingdom, from Booty Bay in the south to Silvermoon City in the north.
@katushkin89 True. Number of players online (in the same realm) and travel time does play into it as well. Especially the latter if you want to have a feel for it's size.
My guess is that it would probably take several hours to traverse the length of the Eve universe, especially if you don't use wormholes, titan- or jump bridges.
That is of course provided you don't get killed by other players along the way, which I must say is nearly a certainty.

I think one reason that EVE online is less popular, isn't only cause they advertise WAY less than WOW, but because EVE is a lot more complicated and in depth than WOW. Ive had some friends of mine that have been playing WOW for years go and try to play EVE for a week and all of them could barely scratch the surface of the game just because if the sheer complexity of it all. I'm not saying that you stupid for playing WOW, I'm just saying that EVE is crazy diverse and in depth. But there both fun!
@JsbeareProL337 The learning curve for eve is pretty much a vertical cliff with plenty of chances of plummeting to your doom along the way. where as Wow pretty much is a nice gentle slope which doesn't even go very high.

wow has roughly 236 realms with 10 servers per realm so devide your 11 million between how many servers there are lol and see just how active each wow server is.

I'd love a specific example... I had +5 implants for all my attributes and I almost died from boredom of the fucking game. The PVE was pure shit. Couldn't do squat as I trained my stupid learning skills. I also participated in a handful of fleet ops and it was fucking retarded. I patrolled jump gates in my shitty rifter as I waited for the people (my alliance) in battleships to kill some NPC stations. Warp back and forth for 3 hours, enemy comes, die in 5 seconds. SO FUN!

@TFProleteriat another reason why i think eve doesnt advertise so vastly is all its players use the same server. thats like 300,000 players with accounts maybe more on one server. its the biggest server population that i know of.. not even wow can claim that many players per server. and i reckon if their were more people in eve the game would probably fall over and and server problems.

People who find their way to EVE tend to be farther reaching when it comes towards game-based skill, tactics, maturity, and goals. By expanding the player base greatly, there is a danger of diluting that player base, and, let's face it, EVE listens to it's players and actually uses their suggestions to improve the game. More players= less voice, and CCP would run the danger of alienating their players.

@Nightmeare just your body dependent upon clone grades.. if you dont have a suitable clone to cover how many skill points you have you could loose alot of time speant training too. your rookie ship is replaced free of charge :)
@hellfigter12345 in eve its the pilots/players responsibility to purchase a clone of them selves. this is basically like a save game but only of your charecter and its skill points. it means if you get destroyed and killed you cone have a rebirth into your new clone. you still loose your ship and modules and so on and all your clone implants in your last body but you dont perma die or suffer skill point loss.... if you dont have a clone it could set you back weeks maybe months in training.
the sounds on eve are amazing .... it is crazy how they made brand new sounds that have never been used before WoW used old medieval sound but thats just one opinion

@Waltago56 eve online doies indeed average out around the 40k subscribers logged in on a daily basis as an average peak in the game. the smallest ive ever seen online at any one time is 16k but thats not often... as far as eve subs go i think you will find their is a few more than 200 thousand lol well alot more. and lets not forget all the high level players dont pay to play they now have the ability to play the game for free buy useing ingame funds to buy game time..
considering your calling them the two greatest mmo's the only way to account to a games success is its subscription numbers (it is a business after all and pimary park of success is income) in this account eve online is not even within second place, This is why CCP made all the anti RMT countermessures than followed up with announceing there implamenting there own RMT's (AURUM, the devblog on "Monetizing 3rd Party Apps" is also a good example) a sign of insuffient income.
WoW wins hands down. I stopped playing WoW because I got bored of it but EVE is just flat out one of the worst MMOs I have ever played. Combat is fkn horrendous. And for those who say that the best part of EVE is in corps and ops, well, I joined a corp and did a few fleet ops with them. Fucking horrible, all I could do is sit in my Rifter/Incursus bored to tears as the people in higher Tiered ships ripped the NPC shit to shreds. Also, being trapped in between warp gates by fkn Russians. GAME SUX
@deadjewelry The game isn't for everyone. The vast majority of EVE players will say that. It's not as simple as which one sucks and which one doesn't, or even which one is best. He said at the beginning of this video that "the list is rather subjective." It's his perspective, and it's helpful and fun, but I guess that's kind of subjective. :)
I do believe the graphics are better in EVE, especially since the new character creator which was released after this video, but I think Blizzard has a huge talent for artistic talent and I think it's much more visually attractive. I'm not biased, either. I prefer to play EVE.
How can you say graphics are better in EVE. Every time I hear someone say that EVE has the best graphics of any MMO, I just cry. It's just a black background with a few spots of light here and there with a bunch of static planets that never change. How does that = good graphics? In WoW and other MMOs, everything else is dynamic and shadows need to be recreated for every step characters make. In EVE, all they need to change is the direction of some rocket fuel animation.
It's impossible to compare since there aren't any foot step shadows in eve or spaceships in WoW, but we can have opinions. It was only an opinion. I typed "I do believe" not "I know." If you believe WoW has better graphics I won't argue.
Also, I don't know how much WoW has changed since I played it last, but it's graphics engine was outdated when it started, and you do not even come close to explaining how complicated graphics is in EVE.

@kurisu925 This game is one of the most complex in the world, with the most difficult learning curve out of all the MMORPG's. But with all this brutalness it determines who is good enough and will play it enough to be able to be apart of the large campaigns that take place in null sec and the patience to do the training.
one thing you failed to mention about the eve soundtrack is that you can create your own tracks and import whatever music you like, so you can play some heavy metal as 1600 ships clash in one system with missiles and lasers flying everywhere.
Eve online is a great game mostly for it's pvp. Unfortunately new players who join eve really don't know what is going on or what to do so they often end up just running missions or mining thier way straight into quitting from boredum. If you want to play eve I suggest you buddy up with another player who has been playing for a while so they can help you learn. Also do not be afraid to PVP early on. Yes you lose your ship when you die but early ships are easy to replace.
wow is a good game. it deserves to be recongnized for what it is. eve however is the most realistic game out there. the are reccesions for the econimie. diplomecie is a key thing. like when i started the trial as a scinetist. i join a decent sized corp made up of buissmess men sceintists and miners. due to the war we turned a huge profit from our explorers seaching enemy territory bussness scientists developing new stuff miners mineing and bussness men selling it. I got a awesome ship in 3 days.
It all really comes down to how you prefer your games. WoW is a very comforting game were you know your safe from people randomly attacking you, EVE is a very harsh and unforgiving game, you could have lots of money and an amazing ship one minute, and lose it all the next. Personally, I prefer it like that, but I know some people don't.
It all boils down to whether you like fantasy sci-fi or science/technology sci-fi. I liked WoW for the realm it could take you to, but only played it for a month since it became the same day in and day out. Same quests, same mobs in same place on same quest etc. Too predictable. I prefer EVE since my corp [and, of course, our alliance] have our own territory that we control and have to keep secure while going against our rivals by invading their territory. Can't hold territory in WoW.

You didnt mention about EVE's Rookie Help Channel and the large amount of players who help you. Thats the best bit! Its fine following a tutorial but having someone to chat to and help you really helps, you are not alone.
Why are all you fucktards arguing just play the god damn games. And quite frankly Eves learning curve isn't that great just fucking go to a station, figure out wtf you want to do(pvp, pve[although that can be extremely boring], farming ISK, and plenty more options), join a guild and buy a new ship. Then look up online for more in-depth guide on what you want to do. It's the same exact thing as Wow the only thing that is different is that you don't loose anything when you die.
@amazingwave Guides aren't everything, EvE isn't just about learning about 8 or so classes... handling ennemis in PVP is tough stuff. You cannot "learn the strategy" like in wow because the amount of possibilities is countless. It's not like wow were addons can tell you how the guy is specced and you know straight away if it's a loose or a win.
Still, of course, you can learn from guides, but it's not like you can make up completely for real experience.

Also, did I ever mention once that looking up a guide was going to make you perfect, fuck no I didn't so why did you say that? And Wow isn't as easy as you make it out. First off, each class has many different options of taking you out: interruptions, cool downs,stuns,bubbles,fear. @startide Well I'm glad you actually know what you are talking about but Wow isn't all just about the pvp it is a lot of fun doing just pve, fighting raid bosses with a guild, and I do admit pvp in Eve is much harder as it depends on how long you've been playing, what skills you have, and I can't even explain how much depth goes into it all with all the statistics and percentages that go into just a single fight. It's just really hard to explain to these fanboys on both sides that both games

I always see Eve players and Wow players arguing about which game is better when each game is great in its own terms and it kind of makes me upset to see Eve players bashing Wow players and vice versa( I'm not saying you in specific but just in general) and it upsets me because I've known people in both games that are very kind and mature but these people are just giving both games a bad name.

If WoW changes and they come out with some new expansion set, you have to go shell out $50 or more to get it. When EVE comes out with any type of new expansions or updates or new stuff, it's included in the normal $15 per month subscription. [And, that's for people too new to rat and build enough to generate enough ISK to buy GTCs/PLEXes].

The only gripes I have are the soundtrack for EVE is suited to the setting: space. No other soundtrack other than techno/electronic music would fit given the situation.
Also, if you had read maybe some more history about the EVE universe rather than just the basic getting started history you would know about all the wars, the Minmatar slavery and where the pirates have come from, rather than just saying "and all that".
And with the new character creation I think EVE wins that without a doubt.

And just because they have a char creation section, storyline, and graphics, and tutorial, etc what any other game would have, they will not be similar enough to make a comparision. Besides these, they don't have one thing in common, and which game doesn't have these..? Jazz Jack Rabbit doesn't have a char creation, but has the rest

@Enlal Games are build on similar grounds yes, and i compared things that you find in MMORpgs ( and as far as i see Eve is one) like progression, social interactions, culture and so on and yes ive compared even the character creation although every game has one.But down to the core both game have been developed on the same criteria so yes you can compare them.

EVE is for the hardcore PVP elite that can accept the fact that when you lose your ship and you get podded you lose all that was there... and if u get podded twice in a row without upgrading ur clone you essentially restart the entire game.... its brutal and if u don't like it or don't get it. more free targets for me

I played EVE for 3 years and quit right after Incarna. It's way better than WoW if you have the patience however CCP made several big mistakes in the past year and a half.
1: They removed the 800k SPs of new characters.
2: They messed up with Dominion (Massive lag, broken sovereignty mechanics).
3: Incarna and the MT store.
Now they seem less focused on space and more on stations. EVE is not about stations. And CCPs trust and respect went down the drain with Hilmar's leaked email.

A Titan (the largest ships in EVE) is about as long as the length of WOW's Eastern Kingdom, from Booty Bay in the south to Silvermoon City in the north.
WOW as a world is actually tiny.

@katushkin89 True. Number of players online (in the same realm) and travel time does play into it as well. Especially the latter if you want to have a feel for it's size.
My guess is that it would probably take several hours to traverse the length of the Eve universe, especially if you don't use wormholes, titan- or jump bridges.
That is of course provided you don't get killed by other players along the way, which I must say is nearly a certainty.

I think one reason that EVE online is less popular, isn't only cause they advertise WAY less than WOW, but because EVE is a lot more complicated and in depth than WOW. Ive had some friends of mine that have been playing WOW for years go and try to play EVE for a week and all of them could barely scratch the surface of the game just because if the sheer complexity of it all. I'm not saying that you stupid for playing WOW, I'm just saying that EVE is crazy diverse and in depth. But there both fun!

I'd love a specific example... I had +5 implants for all my attributes and I almost died from boredom of the fucking game. The PVE was pure shit. Couldn't do squat as I trained my stupid learning skills. I also participated in a handful of fleet ops and it was fucking retarded. I patrolled jump gates in my shitty rifter as I waited for the people (my alliance) in battleships to kill some NPC stations. Warp back and forth for 3 hours, enemy comes, die in 5 seconds. SO FUN!

People who find their way to EVE tend to be farther reaching when it comes towards game-based skill, tactics, maturity, and goals. By expanding the player base greatly, there is a danger of diluting that player base, and, let's face it, EVE listens to it's players and actually uses their suggestions to improve the game. More players= less voice, and CCP would run the danger of alienating their players.

@hellfigter12345 in eve its the pilots/players responsibility to purchase a clone of them selves. this is basically like a save game but only of your charecter and its skill points. it means if you get destroyed and killed you cone have a rebirth into your new clone. you still loose your ship and modules and so on and all your clone implants in your last body but you dont perma die or suffer skill point loss.... if you dont have a clone it could set you back weeks maybe months in training.

@Waltago56 eve online doies indeed average out around the 40k subscribers logged in on a daily basis as an average peak in the game. the smallest ive ever seen online at any one time is 16k but thats not often... as far as eve subs go i think you will find their is a few more than 200 thousand lol well alot more. and lets not forget all the high level players dont pay to play they now have the ability to play the game for free buy useing ingame funds to buy game time..

And for those who say that the best part of EVE is in corps and ops, well, I joined a corp and did a few fleet ops with them. Fucking horrible, all I could do is sit in my Rifter/Incursus bored to tears as the people in higher Tiered ships ripped the NPC shit to shreds. In WoW and other MMOs, everything else is dynamic and shadows need to be recreated for every step characters make. In EVE, all they need to change is the direction of some rocket fuel animation.

It's impossible to compare since there aren't any foot step shadows in eve or spaceships in WoW, but we can have opinions. It was only an opinion. I typed "I do believe" not "I know." If you believe WoW has better graphics I won't argue.
Also, I don't know how much WoW has changed since I played it last, but it's graphics engine was outdated when it started, and you do not even come close to explaining how complicated graphics is in EVE.

@deadjewelry wow is for the easily pleased hence the soft pleasing graphical looks and asphetics lol and if you really wanna go into how good wow graphics are you can stop right there, wow graphics are crap. its just like playing a cartton charecter but in slow motion.. eve on the other hand is deeep and vibrant. when you log into wow you dont gasp at the qaulity of workmanship gone into its creation,, in eve you do!!! nuff said.

@kurisu925 This game is one of the most complex in the world, with the most difficult learning curve out of all the MMORPG's. But with all this brutalness it determines who is good enough and will play it enough to be able to be apart of the large campaigns that take place in null sec and the patience to do the training.

one thing you failed to mention about the eve soundtrack is that you can create your own tracks and import whatever music you like, so you can play some heavy metal as 1600 ships clash in one system with missiles and lasers flying everywhere.

Eve online is a great game mostly for it's pvp. Unfortunately new players who join eve really don't know what is going on or what to do so they often end up just running missions or mining thier way straight into quitting from boredum. If you want to play eve I suggest you buddy up with another player who has been playing for a while so they can help you learn. Also do not be afraid to PVP early on. Yes you lose your ship when you die but early ships are easy to replace.

wow is a good game. it deserves to be recongnized for what it is. eve however is the most realistic game out there. the are reccesions for the econimie. diplomecie is a key thing. like when i started the trial as a scinetist. i join a decent sized corp made up of buissmess men sceintists and miners. due to the war we turned a huge profit from our explorers seaching enemy territory bussness scientists developing new stuff miners mineing and bussness men selling it. I got a awesome ship in 3 days.

It all really comes down to how you prefer your games. WoW is a very comforting game were you know your safe from people randomly attacking you, EVE is a very harsh and unforgiving game, you could have lots of money and an amazing ship one minute, and lose it all the next. Personally, I prefer it like that, but I know some people don't.

I stopped playing wow so I could play eve... haven't looked back.
But don't start comparing them, because all the wow kiddies will come in and ruin everything, then they will cry and then the game will be ruined.

It all boils down to whether you like fantasy sci-fi or science/technology sci-fi. I liked WoW for the realm it could take you to, but only played it for a month since it became the same day in and day out. Same quests, same mobs in same place on same quest etc. Too predictable. I prefer EVE since my corp [and, of course, our alliance] have our own territory that we control and have to keep secure while going against our rivals by invading their territory. Can't hold territory in WoW.

You didnt mention about EVE's Rookie Help Channel and the large amount of players who help you. Thats the best bit! Its fine following a tutorial but having someone to chat to and help you really helps, you are not alone.

Why are all you fucktards arguing just play the god damn games. And quite frankly Eves learning curve isn't that great just fucking go to a station, figure out wtf you want to do(pvp, pve[although that can be extremely boring], farming ISK, and plenty more options), join a guild and buy a new ship. Then look up online for more in-depth guide on what you want to do. It's the same exact thing as Wow the only thing that is different is that you don't loose anything when you die.

@amazingwave Guides aren't everything, EvE isn't just about learning about 8 or so classes... handling ennemis in PVP is tough stuff. You cannot "learn the strategy" like in wow because the amount of possibilities is countless. It's not like wow were addons can tell you how the guy is specced and you know straight away if it's a loose or a win.
Still, of course, you can learn from guides, but it's not like you can make up completely for real experience.

@startide There are no addons that let you know if you are going to win or not. Also, did I ever mention once that looking up a guide was going to make you perfect, fuck no I didn't so why did you say that? And Wow isn't as easy as you make it out. First off, each class has many different options of taking you out: interruptions, cool downs,stuns,bubbles,fear. Secondly it's definitely not just about gear it's about how fast you react, whether or not you hit them first with your crowd control or

@amazingwave I played long enough to know there were classes / specs I could take on with no problem, and others that whatever I did were at best a pain in the ass to deal with (and most of the time certain death) ^^
It's a lot "paper / cissor" stuff in wow, that's why I said addons could tell you if you gonna lose or not, because you could recognize your ennemi specs just by looking at the unit frames. Dual resto druid ? Quit the arena your losing your time :D

@startide Well I'm glad you actually know what you are talking about but Wow isn't all just about the pvp it is a lot of fun doing just pve, fighting raid bosses with a guild, and I do admit pvp in Eve is much harder as it depends on how long you've been playing, what skills you have, and I can't even explain how much depth goes into it all with all the statistics and percentages that go into just a single fight. It's just really hard to explain to these fanboys on both sides that both games

@startide deserve the respect that they 100% deserve. I always see Eve players and Wow players arguing about which game is better when each game is great in its own terms and it kind of makes me upset to see Eve players bashing Wow players and vice versa( I'm not saying you in specific but just in general) and it upsets me because I've known people in both games that are very kind and mature but these people are just giving both games a bad name.

@amazingwave I didn't mean to say that wow was for idiots or whatever, I played it myself for a long time, from release up to the spider wing of naxxramas during vanilla, then TBC and LK ^^
What I said was : EvE is difficult, no matter how you put it, you can read guides, it won't be just enough. That's all I said :)
Both are good, despite the fact I don't like how they made wow so simple with cataclysm... But that's my personnal taste of course ;)
