But let's not forget the real Genghis Khan raped, pillaged and murdered his way across half the world killing literally millions of people - he wasn't the big cuddly uncle portrayed here, lol. Imagine in 2900 having some film about Hitler and his trials against adversity and you probably have the flavour of it..

Great movie! The real Changis Khan story was a bit different, but then again only THE LORD KNOWS THE TRUTH. They later became MUSLIMS and stopped fighting. The soldiers that ventured off out west created the ISLAMIC OTTOMAN TURK EMPIRE. Look it up and see where the original Turks began. They did not bother goin back towards Mongolia b/c that was their brothers land. They almost destroyed Europe, but due to a death in Mongolia they called off the attack to go home and choose a new Khan.

The spirit of the mongolian people, and of its idiosincracy as nomads and invasors in that moment of history, is in my opinion perfectly captured by this film. (more than anything in two inter-conected scenes which can be seen in this very same video: that in which Gengis Khan inquires the chaman about his future, and that final one in which Gengis advances leading his army and we can hear that soundtrack that appears so often in the movie, that kind of chamanic song)

The archers were featured throughout the movie. Genghis Khan's genius was that he learned from the Sinicised and Islamised Turks and developed special units within his army. The mounted archer remained the core but this is to show the Mongols were not one-dimensional under Genghis,

In many ways the armoured warrior is a product of Asia rather than Europe with the ancient Persians using Cataphract or completely armoured cavalry on the Stepps.

This is merely an action movie.

It's fun to watch, but it seems rushed near the end, as if they were running low on budget and had to get a big battle in.
