Then I heard it. I heard its breathing. Like something out of a horror movie. But by the time I heard it, it was too late. He was in my face by the time I tried retreating. I panicked. I ended up unloading my whole AK-74 ammo supply on it. And then I had to keep moving, of course. With soldiers coming at me. And I only had my MP5 to use.
first time i played this level - scared the hell out of me
second time - there was a mercenary in there (or bandit) and i thought he killed the sucker and i walked without a care, i went for the thorny artefact..... and i almost shitted (idk if that's a word) myself

I took out my shotgun and fired.
What followed was a long ineligant dance around the room, full of reloading and medkit uses.
And to think they made you encounter bloodsucker(s) AND a Controller in the same place. X16 and X18 were kinda scary, but this shit was the worst NOPE moment I had while playing a non horror game.
This bloodsucker scared me quite a bit but the one in the millitary base at agroprom, the one you save mole from, if you go there after this part, all the millitary is wiped out and there is 1 or more bloodsuckers, scared the fuck outta me
Nope, just standard sound. Remember, I posted this vid only a few days after the game was released - in March 2007. No mods. And that was my very first encounter with a Bloodsucker. Hence the shit aiming and general running about like a tit! :-P
I believe it was using the scroll-wheel on my mouse. Can't remember if that was a default setting or if I'd configured it that way. Check the Control Options in-game m8.
I think I was on Stalker difficulty - I had shortcuts set up for bandages and heath packs. No need to go to the menu to heal - was just clicking buttons on my mouse. ;-)
@HammerNHook Well, they have two different ways of being scary. FEAR mainly used scripted events, such as things suddenly popping up in your face, while the events in STALKER are more random, such as the soldier suddenly joining in the fight in the video, and it uses the environments and sounds a bit more than FEAR. Besides, STALKER is non-linear and you have the oppotunity to wander around yourself and explore, while in FEAR you don't have much choice where to go. Overall, i'd recommend this.

im not sure where i read this but i hear if a bloodsucker hasnt noticed you, you can sneak up and kill it if u hit it in the back of the head with a knife or shotty, one of those makes the bloodsucker get pissed off, i dont know witch one it is D:
the ball's not an enemy, nor an anomaly. Just an artefact, called Urchin, that increases blood damages by 100%, but absorbs your rads. Quite useful in the Garbage and some other places in the Zone ...
i HATE bloodsuckers with a passion. they and packs of dogs are hard for me to kill. i havent played shadow of chernobyl or clear sky, but i bought call of pripyat last week. i'm used to playing on console, thats why i have trouble killing the "fast movers." also, i think this game craps all over fallout 3, and fallout 3 was pretty amazing. and i'd like to know if there are any mods to continue after the game has been beaten on clear sky and shadow of chernobyl. you can on call of pripyat.

let me tell you the WORSE setuation EVER that you can get into on stalker call of prypiat:you just had a LONG fight with some burers a controler and several packs of zombies and other mutants and you just ran out of ammo and a blow out/nuclear release(whatever its called in the english version) starts you run for the underground tunnel at the cemment factory(also you got some rare artifacts and didnt save) and a bunch of bloodsuckes rush in wat do you do? you cant get out and you cant stay in!
Last day i was in a house in the swamps, when i turned around and saw a renegade shooting me with his pistol. I almost crapped myself, and pumped him full of lead XD
When first playing SoC I was so scared of the undergrounds. Even mutants like the large dogs (not the blind ones) scared me shitless. Well not shitless but quite a lot of a video game.
After a few Stalker games, I ended up in a lair with lots of bloodsuckers in CoP. I was fooling around them until they woke up, then I killed them all. But that was a massive waste of ammo and medkits for the start.
Tip: Never do the "Clearing out the Bloodsucker" mission at night (at least, if you want to keep your pants clean "<_<).
That reminds me... after clearing out the suckers I explored the tower in the village and found some rare goodies. Feeling good, I was inspecting the bodies of two dead stalkers when the game decides to spawn a sucker RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.
I learned a valuable lesson that day: NEVER RELAX, as the game WILL find a way to screw with your mind (literally, with Controllers :P).
Well, right now they're not bad, but when I was still a noob at SoC I remember I always got the sh*t scared out of me when they were around :P. Then I realized their weakness was shotgun and all was well.
That's what I love about this game (and the sequels) - no playthrough is the same as the next one or anyone elses. We all have our unique stories from The Zone! :D
@Fleeshster Now that you think about it, once i was strolling down the Garbage, and i saw this strange group of people walking down the road as if half-asleep. I go there, and i noticed they were zombies. Well, i retreat, take cover from a tree, and start popping their heads one by one. The bandits that were making camp next to the road heard the shots and before i noticed i was taking fire from both left and right! I got away though. You never know when that scum hits you next.
@xxliljohn52 I had a different experience with that one. I was sneaking (read: crouching) with my knife in Agroprom when all of a sudden the sucker starts clawing me from behind. I freak out, do a 180, and frantically do a super stab...
...and it dies in one shot (although in retrospect I think I knifed its head). A bit anticlimactic, but it sure scared the f*** out of me.
Probably. There's only one way to tell - try it! Shadow Of Chernobyl has been out for just over three years now m8 - so it's not expensive to purchase. You can pick up a copy for around €7 - and Clear Sky is about €14. Get both! ;-)

I've just encountered this very Bloodsucker for the first time. Only I just used the double barrel shotgun.
That squeak that constantly goes off every now and then had me prepared funnily enough.
Lol, you did this EXACTLY how I went through xD I thought that the artifact was some puffball of doom, and avoided it at first. But when i got to it, I toughended up and alked up to it. Then picked it up. I continued foreward (That anomaly was further back) then wend down a little walkway, looking back at the anomoly. When I turned around the Bloodsucker was in my face. I nearly jumped out of my seat, lol.
Not really - FRAPS doesn't take too much of a toll - just my high settings and also - this was the completely vanilla game before even the first patch. So it was a bug laden lag fest anyway! It's better now though. ;-)
First time I played SoC, this part scared me a LOT and i didn't want to play it for about a week after, then finally got enough balls to do so and barely killed it only to have the military guys swarm in on me
I'm at this part right now in the game, but I'm officially too scared to play any further. This wouldn't be the first time i encountered bloodsuckers though, but when I did before it was in broad daylight so it wasn't as scary. I guess I'll take it slowly. Hopefully it doesn't sneak up on me.
@squishyblanket When I played this part, I was scared from the videos i've seen of it. Really, it's not that bad. There's MUCH worse coming ahead. No not really, I'm about halfway though, and this game isn't too scary. I bought it thinking i would shit myself.
@higybigy I just hope it doesn't sneak up behind me like in the video. I've heard so many horror stories of people being stalked by these things, apparently for a while before finally realizing it, looking behind them and seeing those yellow glowing eyes. I'd probably jump.
@squishyblanket I was in the bandit camp on the way to Yantar in the middle of the night. Forgot about the Bloodsuckers that roam there at night. The rumors are through, he stalked me most of the way, and I turned around to see those eyes that then ran towards me and attacked me. It scared the shit outta me.
I'm a pussy for horror games, but this really isn't that bad compared to most other intentionally scary games. This is more about the ambiance than stuff popping out at you.
Yeah, you get yourself worked up and it seems more scary than it is. A few times meeting these little Bloodsuckers and they're not so bad anymore. Try having a wander in the Red Forest at night (in TOTAL darkness) in the sequel Clear Sky though - that IS bloody scary lol!

you completely missed hte point of what I was saying there didn't you. in Call of Pripyat, they are literally invisible untill they get close, in this, you can see them moving around from a distance when they're cloaked, big difference, chris almighty...
I know what you mean m8, but they're not totally invisible - just a lot harder to make out and they move a LOT faster. The whole grabbing and biting thing the Bloodsuackers do in Call Of Pripyat is a bit annoying too. You can rattle fuck out of them with an assault rifle only for them to dash in and grab you - then you can't do anything until they let you go. Not keen on that.
when i was there, i was at the sidewalk, the downside is that, the scream thing never happened, so when i was halfway in, i noticed something peculiar and i asked myself "it's quitet... kinda too quitet" I then hear that breathing, so i turn around, and the FRACTION of a second i see silver eyes and the bloodsucker attacked me!

@Claudio529 Gotta disagree. Fallout 3 is great and has more awe to it (Liberty Prime and such) but in terms of post apocolyptic genre nothing beats Stalker. Just has a darkness to it no other game matches. Bloodsuckers > Deathclaws anyday.

I wasn't wondering what had killed them - it was me! Nailed all of them first, then went to look at the electrical anomoly. Looked cool, so I started filming then went back and filmed all the bandits I'd killed.
Then, as you can see, I met the bloodsucker and shit myself.
Ohhh ok, These games really do teach you the survival instinct though huh? For example lol: Something Dead - You didn't kill it = Something that poses a threat nearby
Well, this was my first ever encounter and I fucked up royally by spraying bullets everywhere as I nearly shit myself!
Just make sure you have a few bandages and health packs just in case.
Then nail them with a hunting rifle or an AK. I found the quickest way was to chuck a 'nade in first - this one hangs about halfway down the room so you can see where to aim for - then a few bullets of ANY gun will take him down.
Or, my favourite - get your knife out! 3-4 slashes and he's toast!

i remember when i first played this. i walked into that room herd the bloodsucker thought wtf but slowly walked in anyway. sudenly it jumped me and i died. that happened about 4 times before a gave up from being scared so bad. a few days later i took it back up and descovered that i could just wait a while and the military would kill it for me. since then i have become very competent at killing bloodsuckers but it still scres the shit out of me.

i HATE bloodsuckers with a passion. they and packs of dogs are hard for me to kill. i havent played shadow of chernobyl or clear sky, but i bought call of pripyat last week. i'm used to playing on console, thats why i have trouble killing the "fast movers." also, i think this game craps all over fallout 3, and fallout 3 was pretty amazing. and i'd like to know if there are any mods to continue after the game has been beaten on clear sky and shadow of chernobyl. you can on call of pripyat.

let me tell you the WORSE setuation EVER that you can get into on stalker call of prypiat:you just had a LONG fight with some burers a controler and several packs of zombies and other mutants and you just ran out of ammo and a blow out/nuclear release(whatever its called in the english version) starts you run for the underground tunnel at the cemment factory(also you got some rare artifacts and didnt save) and a bunch of bloodsuckes rush in wat do you do? you cant get out and you cant stay in!

When first playing SoC I was so scared of the undergrounds. Even mutants like the large dogs (not the blind ones) scared me shitless. Well not shitless but quite a lot of a video game.
After a few Stalker games, I ended up in a lair with lots of bloodsuckers in CoP. I was fooling around them until they woke up, then I killed them all. But that was a massive waste of ammo and medkits for the start.

Tip: Never do the "Clearing out the Bloodsucker" mission at night (at least, if you want to keep your pants clean "<_<).
That reminds me... after clearing out the suckers I explored the tower in the village and found some rare goodies. Feeling good, I was inspecting the bodies of two dead stalkers when the game decides to spawn a sucker RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME.
I learned a valuable lesson that day: NEVER RELAX, as the game WILL find a way to screw with your mind (literally, with Controllers :P).

Bloodsuckers aren't scary, sure they can turn invisible, but in Clear Sky and SoC, they don't do shit.
Also, with the first shotgun and a good twitch, you can annihilate them easily, not to mention the higher tier shotties.

@Fleeshster Now that you think about it, once i was strolling down the Garbage, and i saw this strange group of people walking down the road as if half-asleep. I go there, and i noticed they were zombies. Well, i retreat, take cover from a tree, and start popping their heads one by one. The bandits that were making camp next to the road heard the shots and before i noticed i was taking fire from both left and right! I got away though. You never know when that scum hits you next.

@xxliljohn52 I had a different experience with that one. I was sneaking (read: crouching) with my knife in Agroprom when all of a sudden the sucker starts clawing me from behind. I freak out, do a 180, and frantically do a super stab...
...and it dies in one shot (although in retrospect I think I knifed its head). A bit anticlimactic, but it sure scared the f*** out of me.

Probably. There's only one way to tell - try it! Shadow Of Chernobyl has been out for just over three years now m8 - so it's not expensive to purchase. You can pick up a copy for around €7 - and Clear Sky is about €14. Get both! ;-)

I love everyones reaction to the Bloodsuckers roar. It's exactly the same thing I did. You're just looking around for some extra items to sell back to the Trader minding your own business and then suddenly, RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGHHHH.
I've just encountered this very Bloodsucker for the first time. Only I just used the double barrel shotgun.

Lol, you did this EXACTLY how I went through xD I thought that the artifact was some puffball of doom, and avoided it at first. But when i got to it, I toughended up and alked up to it. Then picked it up. I continued foreward (That anomaly was further back) then wend down a little walkway, looking back at the anomoly. When I turned around the Bloodsucker was in my face. I nearly jumped out of my seat, lol.

Not really - FRAPS doesn't take too much of a toll - just my high settings and also - this was the completely vanilla game before even the first patch. So it was a bug laden lag fest anyway! It's better now though. ;-)

I'm at this part right now in the game, but I'm officially too scared to play any further. This wouldn't be the first time i encountered bloodsuckers though, but when I did before it was in broad daylight so it wasn't as scary. I guess I'll take it slowly. Hopefully it doesn't sneak up on me.

@squishyblanket I was in the bandit camp on the way to Yantar in the middle of the night. Forgot about the Bloodsuckers that roam there at night. The rumors are through, he stalked me most of the way, and I turned around to see those eyes that then ran towards me and attacked me. It scared the shit outta me.
I'm a pussy for horror games, but this really isn't that bad compared to most other intentionally scary games. This is more about the ambiance than stuff popping out at you.

Yeah, you get yourself worked up and it seems more scary than it is. A few times meeting these little Bloodsuckers and they're not so bad anymore. Try having a wander in the Red Forest at night (in TOTAL darkness) in the sequel Clear Sky though - that IS bloody scary lol!

I know what you mean m8, but they're not totally invisible - just a lot harder to make out and they move a LOT faster. The whole grabbing and biting thing the Bloodsuackers do in Call Of Pripyat is a bit annoying too. You can rattle fuck out of them with an assault rifle only for them to dash in and grab you - then you can't do anything until they let you go. Not keen on that.

when i was there, i was at the sidewalk, the downside is that, the scream thing never happened, so when i was halfway in, i noticed something peculiar and i asked myself "it's quitet... kinda too quitet" I then hear that breathing, so i turn around, and the FRACTION of a second i see silver eyes and the bloodsucker attacked me!
that scared me so much it made both my heart and myself jump! LITERALLY! X'D

I wasn't wondering what had killed them - it was me! Nailed all of them first, then went to look at the electrical anomoly. Looked cool, so I started filming then went back and filmed all the bandits I'd killed.
Then, as you can see, I met the bloodsucker and shit myself.

Listen for their breathing. Have a good shotgun with you. When they come for you, walk backwards as you spam it down with shotgun shells.

Well, this was my first ever encounter and I fucked up royally by spraying bullets everywhere as I nearly shit myself!
Just make sure you have a few bandages and health packs just in case.
Then nail them with a hunting rifle or an AK. I found the quickest way was to chuck a 'nade in first - this one hangs about halfway down the room so you can see where to aim for - then a few bullets of ANY gun will take him down.
Or, my favourite - get your knife out! 3-4 slashes and he's toast!

i remember when i first played this. i walked into that room herd the bloodsucker thought wtf but slowly walked in anyway. sudenly it jumped me and i died. that happened about 4 times before a gave up from being scared so bad. a few days later i took it back up and descovered that i could just wait a while and the military would kill it for me. since then i have become very competent at killing bloodsuckers but it still scres the shit out of me.
