  • I heard this song by chance on an ESTONIAN radio station and had to know who it was...loved it on scene.

  • Great that these 4 got back together. Graham is the bass players' bass player. Just see what he's doing in this one and "Look Sharp"!

  • Awesome! Listen to that bass!

  • I'm in love with this man's music!

  • joe's still rockin. hard song 2 sing, very melodic, as usual 4 joe.

  • He definitely has a unique style. As his fan base matured, so did his musical style. He made Reggae cool before it became a thing; he made Swing cool before it became a thing; made Latin Jazz cool before it became a thing. etc. Very innovative and that's what I love about him.

  • Volume 4 is a seriously good album. So many good songs in addition to this one.

  • @twisteddsister No More Green Jackets!!!!!!

  • @evelynmh Uncanny, your comment reminds me of a some prose I wrote recently.

  • Comment removed

  • @twisteddsister Ah yes I seem to remember reading about a collection of green and mellon jackets...and then there were the unique items stashed in the closet.....

  • @evelynmh So, did you think it was long enough, with a thick enough plot. I feel I need to bone up on my synonyms, or use an online thesaurus next time, to avoid repetition. LOL

  • @twisteddsister "love at first light" is wonderfull, an anti-love song as only Joe can right them ;-)

  • @Choefoe Yes, it is. THanks Choefoe

  • @Choefoe Yes, awesome song. I've been following Joe since '79

  • @Natash3 Me around ,82 I guess, seen him first live on the big world tour,,86

  • @twisteddsisterThis is my fave twisteddsister, but yes the whole album is good. You must me old like me, otherwise you would have never said album...lol

  • @Natash3 Old habits die hard.

  • Great stuff. Under rated. Hope he is doing alright. Would enjoy another tour soon.

  • After doing some research on JJ I think it possible, even probable, that he plucks. Do an image search of Dale Devere and see what comes up. He sure is "The Man" of many talents!

  • @twisteddsister Look for Allison Cornwell glamoutr and pain, according to Joe "Dale DeVere can,t be here so this dragKING will fill in"something like that ;-) wonderfull performance btw

  • @Choefoe Thanks, I've seen it on YT. I also have Allison's version on the Two Rainy Nights Live Album. JJ's commentary at the opening of the song goes something like: "Dale Devere's not here, but we're going to do a double gender f%#k. This will be sung by our drag king Allison Cornell." I think Allison's version is better than Dale/Joe's version as well. I would like to see Joe do the song live in drag though.

  • @twisteddsister Agree with you on both points ;-)))

  • @twisteddsister correction,should be Allison Cornell;-)

  • This was great version very close to the Album...

    Nice post mate...

  • i can't hear it. he loses his voice here and there.

  • @reinpost Was nothing wrong with his voice last night with the concert, I even thought it sounded better then ever ;-)

  • I saw these guys twice on the warm up tour for this album - best night out ever

  • One of the best (rock) backing trios I've ever seen - Graham, Dave, and Gary. There was a video on Youtube of Gary playing from a rolling chair after spraining his ankle (around the same time period).

  • Excuse me, CherryErry.. Gary is the best one in the band!!!

  • I enjoyed this album a lot - nice to see this live.

  • Joe is great, Graham's great, Dave's great =D

Gary err... Well, doesn't sound bad xD

  • if I heard that wrong just tell me, but it fitts in the song

  • you had a skull like a Klingon beatty queen funny

  • "You had a scowl like a Klingon beauty queen."

  • Is this his hommage to Elvis Costello or Squeeze?

  • He's just being himself. He was right there with those artists at the beginning and helped define the post-punk sound.

  • Okay so maybe this is weird - I was at a supermarket Thursday night and heard, in succession: Squeeze - Hourglass, Joe Jackson - You Can't What you Want..., Elvis Costello - Accidents Will Happen

  • Radio Can Do No Wrong, some nights...

  • heard " You can't Get What You Want " at my gym this morning

  • Joe jackson is amazing! Forget about his odd appearance and just listen to the music! I love Graham Maby too!

  • Damn, how does this guy always manage to look better than me?

  • Great, the drummer looks hot!! Love the Trotters xx

  • wow!, those guys look good for their ages.

they obviously eat a good diet and exercise.

other aging musicians should take notice.

  • Great! Love Joe!!! Never saw him perform live any of the Volume 4 material. Badly want to see him live performing the Rain material. Joe, why won't you play in San Francisco?????

  • Great song. This was a really good album too.

  • What a fantastic comeback! I was worried whether Joe would keep on doing classical songs. They are also good but with the Volume 4-Album he blew me away. Great band, Dave is a monster drummer, saw him live during the tour. And Graham really is a bass artist!

  • RE: Erbankanreal:

Personally, as a fan of challenging music, I highly enjoy Joe's more experimental stuff as well as the poppy stuff.

  • Still the man, no matter how he looks, he can still sing, and I've already got my ticket for the May 13th show in LA. Catch him while you can, totally underrated songwriter and musician. Too bad that folks take flash for talent, I've been a fan since 1979 too, heard him on KMET 94.7, now the wave.

  • Enjoy while you can. There simply aren't any songwriters/musicians like this anymore.

    When they're gone, it's over.

    5 stars

  • See you at the London Shepherd's Bush Empire when Joe headlines on March 2nd 2008. Call the fucking cops!

  • The first time that I heard this, it was just Joe and a piano. I saw it on a talk show. I wish that I could find that version...anyone else hear that slower ballad version?

  • Yeah, I actually saw him perform it twice, if I remember correctly - once on Jimmy Kimmel and again on Craig Kilborn. I have an mp3 of it on my computer of...I think the Kilborn one...if you give me your email address. I'd look it up on youtube too, it's probably here.

  • someone said he's been hitting the Botox a lot lately.....I wish he would just let the go.....he's got great skin doesn't need that stuff....

  • @evelynmh On the question of whether or not Joe has undergone cosmetic improvements, I wish to say: No Comment!

  • Most underrated musical artist in the last 20 years.

Brit self-confidence obviously sells low in US cultural hegemony times. He also should eat little bit more, just to make this comment practical.

  • He appears to have had some facial job done, but I just couldn't care less: his voice is marvellously untouched and that's all that matters to me! Right on Joe, you're THE MAN!

  • He's trying to be 19 forever

  • Mind you, any artist with passion for his craft is.

  • It's really quite bizarre, isn't it? He doesn't seem the type to get work done, but who knows...from my experience and observation, people usually don't change SO drastically as they age. Somewhere online you can find "The Changing Faces of Joe Jackson" but I'm not sure if it's updated for the new millennium look.

  • RE: termin:

This one is a tough call. Joe has always looked like a little kid, he could just be a lucky ager (I've met plenty). Normally I'd jump right on it but I'm not confident this time. He doesn't look especially young if you catch him without makeup.

But in all seriousness, who cares? He's still making awesome music and his voice sounds like a million bucks.

  • Oh, duh! I'm just a gossip queen at heart, so it sneaks out a bit sometimes. His voice and talent are unmatched (Rain is EXCELLENT) and I'll be attending both Chicago shows (the closest, besides Wisconsin, to Minnesota - which is strange, he always plays here!). T minus 9 days!!!

  • Enjoy the shows....I saw him two nights ago at Town Hall in NYC. They sounded really tight, and Joe's piano is phenominal. A lot of new stuff, but he also played Chinatown, Different for Girls, Stranger than Fiction, Downtown, Cant' Get What You Want, etc.

  • Really?He don't looks like wearing makeup!

  • I doubt that J Jacskon even cares what anyone thinks of his appearance or reads any of these posts anyway

  • @SingJiya, don't be so bloody daft! He's not hitting on the girl - he's just noticed that she looks the way he felt when he was 15, but the bad news is, it doesn't get any better as you get older. He can see that she thinks (probably resentfully) that he's got it all sussed, but in fact he's just as lost at 50 as he was at 15. As is everybody.

Now go wash your grubby mind out with soap.

  • Coye....You were reading my mind.......

  • @coyelaforetaine trust me, he aint chasin no little girls

  • @johndspike - as I was saying!

  • Comment removed

  • @evelynmh why does he have to "chase" anything? He's too much an honorable man to be after little girls.

  • Again dont hear anyone about what's good music.

    Try your self !

Graham Parker - Joe Jackson - Elvis Costello - The Best

  • JohnEpi-my sentiments exactly. Was it the era in which we grew up, or or these guys exceptional? I think both. I watch this vid over and over. Been following Joe Jackson since '79, and the band reunion tour sounded better than ever a few years ago. Lots to discover....

  • Well , you are one of the lucky ones since there at least they play from time to time. Here in Greece is like living in music hell , but im'still alive like pearl jam say ;)

    ...and yes they are exceptional...

  • My 3 "angry young men"!!!

  • Oh my gosh, this is so great!!!

    Looooove Joe!!!!

Like Thebulearmchair said it, he's so under-rated!!!!

    Yay for Joe.

Saw him in Paris, it was awesome!

  • Thanks for the video! Did you all know that Squeeze, from the same genre and era, is going to be touring North America in the Summer of 2007?

  • I was just listening to "Volume 4" & "Afterlife" this evening wondering what he's been up to recently: Back in the studio apparently.

  • Huh. I never heard this song before, that I remember. Great lyrics! Tight band, too.

  • Very clever writer...a genuine amidst the fakes.

  • Awesome. Went to see JJ on Wednesday. Love the guy. So under-rated.
