i do not agree with the school LIC bull shit, what makes a man is what he has done and tort him self what to do, DONT get me wrong, u get drivers from everywere, but wen u put 40+ tones on a noob and give him 4 chances it gets to mutch, sozz for my spelling i just dont cair :) cause no one dos eneymore.......
Written test is probably the hardest part. I barrowed a cdl book from the library to simplify it before I start. Lot of things involved with trucking. Like backing in tight places, snow espcially in the mountains, city right hand turns. Getting to your destination at night where there is no facilities. All the added regulations that can be easily used against you. I'm considering it now that my son is grown up and in college. Now it is convencing the wife.
I've gotten my class A CDL license Back in December of 2010 and now have a hazmat and tanker endorcement but how do I get on the job when all the carriers require years of driving experience? what company that doesn't require years of experiences and accept graduate drivers?
The worst thing i ever did was to set my arse behind the wheel of a bloody truck. Terrible job, always chasing the clock, boss on the phone wanting to know why you cant be in two places at once, cops all over your ass and on top of all that we're still expected to murder the od prostitute
OH another thing, I'll be driving from phoenix to Florida, hauling 2 jacobson LF3800 lawnmowers to Tampa bay florida, driving the F250 Super Duty pickup and a 20 foot trailers.
@sideslide23 hey does this help to go and get permit first before you ever go to the school or learn to drive? is it better to do it that way? did it benefit you more?
@TexasRaTleSnake316 I don't know but I've practice my writen test on one of the online sources, I did it on cregglandwebsite, and 3 weeks ago, I've optain my class A CDL but pariently I have to go to a school where they talk about rules and regulation, logs, and other stuff, because you just gotten your class A CDL doesn't mean you qualify because you have no experience. , you have to go to the school where they do rules and regulation, logs, and other stuff or you'll never drive
if they were told wat they were driving it wouldn't be to bad i would keep the pickups they let you drive around in them and you polish them so why not keep them
I passed my CDL tests, this was definately one of the toughest areas. i have some stuff that helped me study for the tests. Email me at Schecter860 @yahoo.com or message me on youtube and ill help you figure out some of the answers to help you study for your upcoming CDL tests.
So how do i even get started? I want to get my CDL i live in Chicago, Illinois. I feel like my age is going to be a problem though, I'm only 19 and i really want to get my CDL. Can someone help me please?
@Ferrari360Spyder Go to your local DMV office to pick up the manual, read, study/learn, while you talk to (interview) A Lot of current truck drivers(!) Ask people you know to refer you to a driver or 10-30. Try to find a driver honest and intelligent, at truck stops if nothing else. To many opinions, and to many variables in the industry to have a simple answer, but you can count on long hours, and low pay. Be Very Wary of any "school" who wants 4-8,000$ to 'train' you. More info. on request.
@Ferrari360Spyder I got my CDL when I was 19 and I was restricted to in state driving only. It is worth getting though. The laws are only going to get tougher and when you turn 21, the restriction is automatically lifted.
My advice is to find a different career, it's not like it used to be, it's over regulated and all the local police , sheriff department's, have became certified DOT inspectors, this means in a large city, you can be stopped and checked in all the surrounding counties, no matter how legal you are, they will always find something, and you are always treated like a criminal.
The one thing anyone who wants to start driving truck is that the school you go to is there to get you to pass the CDL. Not to train you to drive with a measure of confidence from extensive training. When you get hired by someone after that they will hook you up with a training driver and from the over the road time will come more skills if you get a good trainer.
@lawnside82 Yep.And the next 12 Months will be the MOST dangerous of
a professional driving career. If somehow by the Grace of our sweet Lord
Jesus you somehow manage to survive that first 12 months without wrapping yourself and $200,000.00 worth of Tractor and Trailer around a Bridge Abuttment,or, going over the edge of a Cliff, or, Killing a carload
or two or three of families with children in the back seat. Not to mention
staying awake, your first exposure to ICE. You might just make it.
@lawnside82 I doubt it, just another drivers test to me. If you haven't done it yet, teach yourself how to ride a motorcycle without any help from anyone, no paid classes. The testing is quick and easy and the ride is much more exciting. ;D
It'll be nice to have a class A license, and a M1 license, and drive anything I want except aircrafts and boats, but I'll likely get those two soon enough too. I love traveling. (I'm 23 year old girl starting truck driving)

Unsafe trucks cause far too many accidents, but there are also too many dangerous truck drivers. Our accident lawyers know that negligent truck drivers contribute to many of the more than 110,000 people who suffer serious personal injury every year in crashes involving tractor trailers. That equals more than 2,000 personal injuries and wrongful deaths every week and about 5,000 lives lost every year in truck accidents.
this guy invited the teacher for a walk outside, Wolcut got fired. kicked the trash can across the room MF! had a tantrum in class. it was so funny this student begged him to step outside..The student was raised around trucks all his life, the teacher was unfit.
I went to a truck driving school in Lansing Michigan USA. We had a teacher who was a ass hole and a student who was a machanic on diesels the teacher had no idea about shit the student KC told the class that a cunnims L6 has 3 heads to service 2 cylinders at one time for less down time and the teacher told him he was full of shit..the guy brought back a service Manual and the teacher went nuts flipped out! the teacher knew nothing.

In California, the cost of the CDL permit is $64 dollars. You have to know General knowlege, Air breaks, Combinations. That is just for a class A permit. then you have get a truck to demonstrate the pretrip inspection, skills test, then the driving. I would check out diffrent schools get any info you could on them.
