It is called Compiz now. Use Synaptic and do a search for Compiz. You should be able to have the package manager install it for you.

linux is not FREE it is never considered free ask anyone who writes code for it.

it is a low to extremely low cost operating system that has far more man hours invested into it than either windows or mac os.

Beryl is a specific window manager program that runs in linux on top of whatever GUI you are using such as KDE or GNOME Beryl is what makes your desktop look so pretty. otherwise it just looks like a desktop.

also people with low bandwidth will often buy the install disks for a few dollars rather than try to download for days on end.

Beryl is a window manager that runs in linux, a completely separate program from your OS.

Ubuntu is a linux distribution, it is one of hundreds of different versions of linux, it is widely known as the easiest to use of all the current distributions

yes you must have both to get those effects -_-

and no it most likely will not slow down your computer, because the linux OS makes far better use of your computers hardware than windows ever could. In fact your machine will most likely run faster.

If it's not overdone it's quite efficient. Studies have shown good GUI effects create an environment conducive to productivity. I've found this to be true. In Vista's Aero, in Linux Compiz/XGL/Beryl, and in Mac OS's unique style - all have a unique and good way of creating an interesting and appealing work environment. This just seems to be the most appealing. xD

It's good for multitasking.  You can have several utilities open per desktop. If there was a way to idle processes on the desktop not shown to conserve system resources, that would be the shit.
