Someone should remind Richard Dreyfuss what ideological group has been dominating the public education system in this country. The same group that has been teaching our kids how to masturbate, how to have sex, how 'bad' our U.S. military is. The same group that has emphasized moral relativism and a loose interpretation of the U.S. constitution. Dreyfuss may want to take issue with that group before he goes grandstanding.

I have some shocking news for you. Kids are going to find out about masturbation and sex regardless of what any school tells them. So might as well teach them about the consequences. I listened to Dreyfuss in "A Wayfarer's Journey, Listening to Mahler".

Dreyfuss is a good guy. I'm a conservative-libertarian and I think I could actually trust this guy...I'm still skeptical of what changes exactly he would have in school curriculum but at least he isn't complacent like most liberals who pretend the system is going in the right direction.

Yesterday night President Sarkozy could have pronounce the same words as R. Dreyfuss was not shy to utter, about the French education system, on the occasion of a general debate aired live on TF1. Alas, he did not. Not that he didn't want to but he didn't really feel like being in Mr Mubarak's shoes with hundreds of thousands of teacher unionists in the streets or sitting in at the Place de la Concorde chanting the henceforth famous mantra "Dégage!" at his face, the following day.

I completely agree with everything he just said and I welcome his input to the conversation. Before the next generation can even beginning to debate/discuss the broader philosophical implications of left vs right they need to understand the basics of history and civics that underpin the dialog. These are two subjects that are not being taught nearly as well as they should be. Good for him for "crossing the aisle" so to speak. It makes me want to actually listen instead of shout. Bravo.

Dreyfuss has taken so many ugly cheap shots at Republicans over the years that its hard to take this at face value.

But this is a good catch by rising star Dana Loesch, and if Dreyfuss IS sincere about putting the weight of his celebrity into a renaissance of civics instruction/civic responsibilty in schools, he wont have to look far to find willing allies among the same people he so often and so bitterly denigrates.

Its far more likely that his lib/union allies would oppose him.
