I would buy a Sega DreamCast specifically for Mortal Kombat Gold.

If it were available as DLC on PlayStation 3, X-Box 360 and/or Wii, I could just download it that way & wouldn't have to buy a Sega DreamCast.

I mean it would probably feel weird to buy a whole console just for 1 specific game.

mortal kombat gold originally had a character called belokk but the MK Team didn't have time to finish the character, leading to his scrap. Later, Eurocom accidentally sent information about the game which included something about the character and as a result, six screenshots of Belokk were leaked to the public.

if you have a Dreamcast, you can run backups without hacking it, so you can play a backup copy of mk gold on your dreamcast, all you need is a CD and a DC lol

not the best game in the series(mk 1 still holds my heart) but this game was still a great time killer i only know of the gold and red version (i had the gold could not save the fucking game in that one and it was buggy as hell(they fixed all that in the red version 2.0)

So glad i just ordered the red tinted disc version the other day on ebay, the gold discs glitches like music cutting out and graphical glitches was pathetic. Now i've got every major MK release other than deadly alliance, armageddon and mk vs dc, but those are all my least favorite ones, so no biggie. Love ur vids btw man. Good to see an mk crazy person such as myself. Only thing i'd suggest is figure out how to make the screen capture a little clearer. Peace.

I do not recognize MKG as a true MK simply because the father of MK Storyline and characters, John Tobias left the company after MK4. This expansion and its endings and storyline are not Tobias's work. As a veteran MK fan I see a huge downfall in storyline and visualisation after Tobias left the team. Making Sub-Zero to look like shredder from TMNT and giving him Mongol boots is jus one mistake of many from Vogel. I just hope that one day Tobias will return to make one last MK with Boon.

MKG is graphically identical to the arcade version but has many flaws compared to it. I personally don't recognize this as a true sequel of MK4 because John Tobias wasn't involved in it.

@Serb1anArchangel IMO MKG has superior graphics when compared to MK4-Arcade, extra characters and enhanced ending FMV's so disliking the game just because John Tobias wasn't involved in this port is a pretty shity reason if you ask me, considering he was involved in MK4 and MKG is just an enhanced version of that game, personally i absolutely love MKG but each to their own i guess. =)

@mutronics1 The characters of MKG (Baraka, Kung Lao, Milena, Cyrax, Sektor, Kitana) were designed very poorly compared to the characters of MK4. And the characters of MKG were not even designed by the MK Team. They were designed by Eurocom, just like their endings. Also the new stages of MKG were also designed poorly, compared to MK4 and that is also because of Eurocom. The graphics of MKG are nothing different in textures, polygon count than MK4. The only difference are the dreamcast filters.

Let me tell you this. MK Gold is missing about 400,000 polygons compared to the arcade. Mk Gold has said to have a higher polygon count than the arcade but its not true. Yes the endings look better than the arcade ones, they are similar to the endings on the PSX version.

I liked this version of the game. I think it should hit download services like XBLA and PSN. I just do not like the title. I think calling it Ultimate Mortal Kombat 4 would have been better. I used to own the red disc version with the "hot, new" sticker on it. I wish I had that stuff still.

MKG was never released for PC. If you want to play MKG on your PC, you need to download the Dreamcast version and a Dreamcast emulator.

Nice review man. I liked it. I always wondered why they never released MKG for PSX. I liked MK4 but only thing that I disliked were the characters. Thank god in MK4 there was Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Reptile, I guess they were the coolest characters in the entire game and when then I saw MKG and Cyrax and Sektor I really wanted to play with them. I loved all cyber ninjas in MK3 and I really wanted to see them in MK4, sadly I never played with'em out of MKT series.

Why? I actually prefer nullDC to the real thing, because you can use higher resolutions, it's easier to cheat and hack saved games and (with the right equipment) play in stereoscopy, something that's completely impossible with the real console.

If you want to play this game on your PC, use nullDC to emulate the Dreamcast version. It works perfectly.

You either have a power problem or cd lens problem, im sure there are some PSX guys out there that would know what to do. Most people have the power issue with the DC system, the pins inside need to be reallined...sounds easy but it aint cause I tried ti myself once and had no luck.

MK, MKII, MK3, UMK3, MKT, MK4, MKG, MK:DA (tournament edition was a port of this), MK:D (Unchained is just a port of this game), MK: Armageddon, and MK vs DCU were the "proper" MK games. Then you had Mortal Kombat Special Forces and MK Mythologies: Sub-Zero which were completely different, just using MK characters and a few moves. I never played MK: Shaolin Monks so I can't speak of it.

You might not consider MKG and UMK3 to be full games though, expansions instead.
