I was dating a girl, who later became my wife, when this song was on the hit parade. to visit her I had to walk 5miles round trip from my house to her house..the song said it all...Great memories...
Thank you for posting this. I do remember seeing an early video clip of Ray and the Whispers, naturally enough, walking along and lipsynching to this son. He was a great talent, should have been a lot more successful internationally than he was.
2 idiots who don't know talent. Funny about this isn't you don't have to identify yourself but you can kick the shit out of someone. At least my username shows up when i write something.
fabulous! thank you... about five years ago there was one of those discount cd bins and there was the great Ray Brown and the Ws and a double CD at that for $5.00.. I would have paid a lot more and you know for the pleasure it gave.. it should have been more!!!
Remember seeing Ray Brown & the Whispers,Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs, Max Merrit & the Meteors, Jade Hurley and Dinah Lee all on the same bill at the old Capitol Theatre in Perth.I was 14 at the time---what a night!
Ray was one of my best friends and lover..He was the nicest person one could know.....I went with him to his gigs and he was always happy.
He was the most tidiest man I knew & he loved his big old white car to bits!
He was always the perfect gentleman and we spoke often on the phone after I moved away from Sydney.....Not long before Ray passed, he told me on the phone that both his parents had died within a year of each other....They lived at Noraville on the Central Coast..R.I.P. Ray xx

For ColinDominy, I was a cameraman at TCN 9 and one of the other cameramen, Bruce Wilson, shot that film clip for nothing, on 16 mm film. Channel 9 provided the film, but the rest was done for fun. Bruce made many "videos" long before they were "invented" for music as such. He was a great cameraman - and got the performers to "mime" to their own recordings. He usually used a tape player at the scene so they could hear themselves and mime along while he filmed.
From all reports of the time, this band was an INSTANT SMASH HIT on the old Top 40 Charts .. right from Day One !! This is a really great song. I can only JUST remember Ray & the band from my very young pre-pubescent days. THIS one I DO remember though. They had a custom-made film clip to go with it (pre-MTV) - featuring an old NSW Public Transport double-decker bus (but common in those days) going from Manly Beach to Palm Beach (i.e. .. 20 Miles .. ). Anyone remember THAT video clip ??
Yep! I was about 8 when I saw the clip. Only remember bits and pieces of it. Even though I did not understand English at the time (NESB), I still groved to the music and knew it was something special.
This music is like a drug, couldn't imagine living with out it , feel sorry for the generation that never grew up listening to this music, its probably why there are so many young people with so many problems, I blame the noise they listen to.
Hey there, Rob .. I love your comment & insights on how much the kids of today are missing out on .. re ORIGINAL, FEEL-GOOD, boppy fun-time music like this. HOWEVER .. what I'm seeing happen is a v. refreshing trend where teenagers today are going retro, of THEIR OWN ACCORD .. and discovering rock & roll music, like this stuff, the way it was always intended to be. BUT - You & I are not separated by that much difference in age, mate. Born at the right time, eh !! Cheers, Col from Sydney.
Funny you chose this one to draw my attention to this site janschro. My sister ran the Official Ray/Whispers fan club. August 22nd '96, the day they laid Ray to rest changed my life forever. Thanks for keeping the music alive. Vale Ray.
Thanks for this song - love Ray Brown songs , they bring back great memories of the 60's.

The days when we had talent in abundance. It's probably seen as a bit schmaltzy these days but you can't stop your feet tapping along.
