Soulful rendering by Pt Ajoy ji. Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Saheb was distinct in his singing inasmuch as his speed of 'taans' is unmatched till today. No need to compare Pandit ji with Khan Saheb.

beautiful beautiful.. i had already heard a lot about ajay charaborthy ji and after hearing him i think that all those praises were cent percent justified.. what an amazing singer he is.. and friends when he is singing this thumri, please just take it as a tribute to his ustad.. there is no reason for any kind of comparisons here..
Bhairavi or Sindh Bhairavi, both depending on the gharana. In some gharanas sindh bhairavi is omitted as a raag and still said to be bhairavi. In Patiala gharana (Pt. Ajoy's gharana) there is no sindh bhairavi.
Panditji has sung it with a lot of vistar. Every line has variations. I can understand artists wanting to bring in their expertise rather than copying exactly. I was kinda expecting to hear BGA version, but this is vastly different and nice too.
I am sorry if I have hurt your feelings. I should not have used such harsh language. I respect Pt. Ajoyji as much as you do. As I told Mousiqui, there is vast difference between the two singers. I would again give you a simple example: you cannot compare Taj Mahal at Agra with Bibi-ka Makbara at Aurangabad. Once again, I apologise . I will of course continue to be a fan of Ajoyji.
Bade Gulam Ali Khan was great that doesn't mean that one has to like him over every one else. Rendering of Raga and its interpritations changes with time. Personally I like Gulam ALi's over Chakravorty's version but I think Gulu's version of this thumri is even better. We all understand classical music but our testes differ and that is Good.
Let me explain by giving you a simple example. The painting of Mona Lisa portrait is a masterpiece par excellence. I have seen it myself in Paris. Can anybody try to paint a similar portrait, however good that artist may be? I hope I have brought home the truth. I meant no disrespect to Pandit Chakraborty whom I admire as a great classical singer. I feel no artiste should sing this exquisite thumri by Bade Ghulam Ali Saheb Just listen Thanks.
Sorry if I have hurt your feelings. I am also an admirer of Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty who has a mellifluous voice, no doubt. His daughter also sings very well. Thanks.
I have heard Bade Golam Ali Khan Sahab's rendition as well which I think is far better than Ajoy ji's. It's just something indescribable which I guess made him what Ustadji was - the greatest singer of all times.
"Kya karo sajani" is a masterpiece sung by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan. What Ajay Chakraborty is singing can be only an extremely poor imitation. Let him not try this again. He is only making a fool of himself.
opinions are dime-a-dozen. Care to elaborate ? Why is it a 'poor imitation' ? He's culled the depths of mishra bhairavi quite well, I thought. Of course, that's just my opinion. And he certainly has a sweeter voice than UBGAK.
First it's not the same thumri even though the words may be the same. It's Ajoy Chakravorthy's version. I prefer the UBGAK's version, that was awesome. Also, Khan Saheb's voice had a tremendous range and was a thing of beauty, there is no comparison. If he only had the benefit of today's recording technology this point would be moot.
i agree that ustad BADE GHULAM ALI KHAN SAHB was a legend in indian classical music...... i respect ur feelings but u should not make these kind of senseless statement for PT. AJOY CHAKRABORTY. after he is also an admirer of USTAD B.G.A. KHAN and a great vocalist too....... i know that u know the difference.... keep it up.
I agree. The arts should not be a battle ground of winners and losers. That is the very antithesis of the arts. Such remarks are in poor taste and one should appreciate that there are still people who are sacrificing their lives to keep up the ancient and fast-disappearing arts of India. Please understand the contribution of all those who struggle for this. No need at all to disparage their great efforts.
I am sorry that I do not agree with you, peacock009. Ajoy ji is a great classical singer and any classical singer can try and sing late Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Shaheb's masterpiece thumri "Kya karo sajani". Each and every thumri will be different but that doesn't mean that it cannot be sung or attempted by any classical artists.
I love late Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Shaheb's masterpiece and I also love Ajoy's rendition.
This is one of the most incredible clips of music I have seen!! What a singer but on top of this what a stunning tabla player . Do you know if this concert is on DVD /or CD and what are the details of this concert where was it held etc ?? Please psot details and more clips if you have. Thanks
