This horse does look like shes got some barrel racing potential. :) Looking great! :) lol My barrel horse is still a bit fat and lazy needing some more miles. lol But shes lost about 100 lbs from riding almost everyday. :) She weighs 1125 lbs. lol
oh god lol im still trying to push my lazy horse to go faster but its been over two years now with barely any results. i've heard that its nearly impossible to speed up a lazy horse. what i did was buy a new one that was much faster, but i still managed to keep the slow one.
@xXSweetBreezeXx my horse was extremely lazy when i started him on barrels...he had never ran with a person on his back when i got him....i took one of them foam flip-flops and smacked him on the rump at the speed points on the barrels and it actually got him to get up and scoot....he has won a few races since then but he still isnt the speediest horse in the world. i hope this helps :D
@barrelracer401 Lol that sounds like something I might have to try. She is getting a lot faster now that she's older, but if I work on barrels or even just work her for 3 days in a row and don't throw a trail ride in there, then she's back to her lazy self. I will have to try the flipflop idea though :)
@xXSweetBreezeXx Lunging. Repedidly. But you need two people. One to sit on 'em to help with the pressures, and the other to lunge. He should get into shape and get the hang of it, either again or just get the hang of it lol
Just a little help, you can take it or not, lol, when barrel racing you always want to rate the barrel, because I noticed that you where taking the barrels really wide, also make a pocket on the other side so you can cut it closer on the other side! lol Just a little friendly help!
aww pretty horse! so when you start "real training" with the horses on barrels, are you supposed to start them out at a walk? I'm starting my horse on barrels and i've loped him around them some and he does great but he takes wide turns. will the correct turns come in time?
yeah, i always start them out at the walk. get all the basics done. lol. and yeah, the faster u go and once he realizes wat he's suposed to do and where to go, his turns will become much sharper! good luck and thanks!
When I started out training my horse I walked a million times, then trotted a million times! Then loped a million times! Before I actually galloped. I probably loped more then anything because he need to learn how to do a lead change, lol also remember if you are still training to make a pocket on the fon the first side so you can cut it close onthe other side! ; )
omg no. this was months ago. she just came for 30 days of training with me in april. lol. i still see her a lot tho. like once a week for sure since she's one of my best friends horse. thnx :)
well, i always do my way and it works off fine. some ppl say to "do this" and "do that" when barrel racing, but i dont care what other ppl say, we all have our own ways, even if u may think its absolutely wrong, its worked for all of my horses and other ppl horses and that's quite a few horses and my way has always worked for me. there are too many possibilities for barrel racing technques and personally, i dont think theres even that certain "right" way. it all depends on the horse.
phew..... thank GOD i'm not the only one crazy enough to barrel race in winter!! ;)

she is so cute!

Good work! you should back him up by the barrels so he or she knows that its supposed to use its back end more.
mshuntjump 3 years ago
haha i probably should, but this was just finding out her potential. she didn't have a clue what to do, but she did very well :)

When trainning the horse you want to get your start straight. Dont turn him towards the barrel you want to start a stright line then pivot off
