If you think the drugs did this, the same drugs everyone else used you'd be wrong. Watch this if you want to know how he did it. justin.tv/fearlesstv/b/291797210
4:50 "Well, they have seen or witnessed someting this afternoon, which is going to be talked about for many years in the sports of cycling, for many years in the history of the tour de france..."
They should all be allowed to dope. Look how much fun this was to watch. Then watch a stage like the one yesterday. Guys were just tired. Attacks failed, it was just weak. These are athletes and this shit is hard, let them dope.
When I saw this live, I was awestruck. After losing so much time on the day before, Landis rode like a man posessed, but he also looked like he was pumped full of testosterone. I know he took drugs, but I don't think anything would give you that much of an instant boost. He was just utterly psyched.
@artysmokes A bag of blood straight into the arm will give you a big boost very quickly. That is probably where the testosterone came from too- blood is bagged during training, he was probably taking testosterone during training, instant positive test, instant pickup in performance.
@RFXCrunner I could do with a bag of blood like that right now. I'm exhausted from watching Andy Schleck and Alberto Contador making attacks in the Alps in the last couple of days!
I remember watching this whole stage live and it was really bittersweet. I was so happy he rode away after looking like he was a goner..but when I saw those closeups shots from the cameras my first thought was "what is he on?" sooo obv it was something illegal... he wasnt even drinking his water, he was just dumping it on his back
@gpwell It was freaky, wasn't it? Other riders that give 100% on a mountain practically die as soon as they cross the line, but Landis looked like he wanted to punch someone. I'd never seen anyone so fired up AFTER a victory. Instead of relief, he was looking for another fight... and ultimately it was a legal battle that he found... and lost. Tragic really. That whole tour was ruined, because Perreira hadn't done anything worthy of a champion.
I am pretty sure that he just doped. To Landis' defence: the others most likely also did. Pereiro was suspected to take illegal stuff from 2006-2008, too.
I think the key is to dope, but without exceeding the limit too much.
But why do we even bother? The thing is that it doesn't make the sport as such unattractive for the spectator, does it?
Nevertheless this stage - especially landis' solo - was so ridiculous!
I agree...I have decided to leave the matrix, to stop believing the illusion. Lance was the king of the brotherhood of the needle and yes, the house of cards is falling... also this stage 17 was so dramatic, epic, I was crying and to later learn that it was all cause of drugs, made me sick. Its so sad that that's what our world has become...all lies.
Also read "From Lance to Landis" by David Walsh...(he wrote LA confidential), but you find that in the USA..Great quote by Frankie Andreu on the doping climate of pro cycling that he went through. As for Lance, I feel the story has now fully been told. People walking around with their "Lance Armstrong blinders" on, just have not researched and opened their eyes...soon their eyes will be opened for them!
@videolover61 Thanks! I am sure all pro sports are as bad as cycling. Football, baseball, hockey. They just don't police themselves, it would be bad for their revenue if people knew the truth. They close their eyes, they don't shoot themselves in the foot!
Where there's money, there's cheating, and there are a lot of sports that involve more money than cycling. Thanks for the book suggestion!
I'm not a FL fan, but I remember watching this stage and thinking WOW! If he can really pull this off he deserves a win...well, we all know what happened then...
The need to catch "dopers" before the police did, drove continuously higher standards of "proof of innocence" from the riders.
I don't think people were targeted specifically, but the tests that "caught" Floyd, and Tyler were each unable to duplicate the tests from independent labs.
So let me say this as clearly as I can:
I do not think the UCI et all set out to destroy innocent athletes.
I do think that political factors drove the findings.
