Ah, so this is the origin of Obisumaru. I thought that when I first encountered him in GGA, he was a family relative of Ebisumaru judging from the almost identical name and appearence, though I do find it kinda odd Ebisumaru doesn't have any comeback dialogue at him there compared to this.
Not quite. "Araiguma", or simply "rakuun", is raccoon in Japanese. A tanuki is a raccoon dog, which is a completely separate animal. And yes, the tanooki suit in SMB3 is based on the raccoon dog, not the raccoon.
Thanks for making these. I can finally appreciate this game's scenes. I loved "Legend Of the Mystical Ninja" and want desparately to play GG2-4 for the Super Famicom. Too bad they will never actually be translated... = (
Having Ebisumaru lose to Obisumaru is funny in itself:
1. It's the only instance I've seen of Ebisumaru uttering anything close to a swear word (he says a muffled "Chikushou!" while face-down on the ground).
2. When you come back for a rematch, Obisumaru makes Ebisumaru beg him for another chance in the most overblown way possible.
The way it shows Ebi and Obisumaru mindlessly walking along and then suddenly jumping when they see each other is really hilarious.
"I only like beautiful people, and beautiful people like me!" pbffft~ What a funny guy.
It's a good thing Ebisumaru is destined to get the ballerina drill, because I'd rather not see a ballerina Obisumaru! Could make a stupid fanart sometime, though.
"Isn't it great to play sports non-stop-" Heh, I can see why Seppukumaru would be hanging around with Rokudenashi.
I really like this. It's interesting to watch these videos and see where characters like Obisumaru and Bisumaru originally came from. Thanks for taking the time to do all this.
Those little egg-henchmen-guy-thing-deals *are* weird, but I do like how they can show emotions, unlike the Omikuji bros. I think Clc27 has a point, that this game might just be *too* weird, even for Goemon-tachi, but that doesn't mean it isn't still fun.
Now here's a puzzler: How did Ebisumaru get the conch shell? And how does *everyone* get the conch shell from whoever had it last? Are there four conch shells now? Maybe Impact carries it with him when you change planets? Who knows...
I think there would have to be four conch shells, since the four ninjas are on their separate moons at the same time. But you're right, who knows for sure.
I still can't believe Obisumaru even got girls in the first place. He's so hideous. At least Ebisumaru isn't quite as fat. It's so nice seeing these old games translated. Great job.
Ah yeah! I was looking forward to this, I've been wanting to know what was going on in the Ebisumaru/Obisumaru scene for ages- and it's as funny as I had hoped!
Goemon 3 is one of my favorites, too. And how Obisumaru got to Japan in GGA is still a bit of a mystery. This series doesn't really make sense, but who cares? It's still fun.
Isn't he like a girl in disguise or something?

i think tanuki means raccoon in Japanese(well, there was a raccoon suit in SMB3 called the tanooki suit, so it probably means raccoon).

Kuroko the referee! LOL awesome!
Wish they translated this...

Yeah, I do too...It would be so much more reliable than my crappy fan translation.

Yeah, too bad...It would be great if Konami suddenly decided to pick these games up again and release them overseas.

Heh, that's right. Typical Obisumaru (exactly like in GG2). And not something we would readily expect from Ebisumaru.

Uh, I mean GGA, of course.

Heh heh, now I want to draw them in tutus... after all, how often does Obisumaru show up in fanart?

I've never seen him. It could be...interesting.

Yeah, apparently the Tsujigiri are almost as into sports as Seppukumaru.
Ballerina Ebisumaru (or Obisumaru) could make great fan art...I'd like to see that! (Or any Goemon fan art, for that matter.)
