You can see 2 blue rectangular things coming up on the new bond bridge--that is the old Paseo Bridge coming down, as they could not blow it up due to the close proximity of the new bridge.
Hey Luke, great video. I just came through here a couple of months ago, and I know exactly what you mean about the confusing city limits. Thanks for the ride!! Great music also.
A minor correction... You don't go into Jackson County until you cross the Missouri River. Kansas City, MO, is spread out over both Clay County (north of the river) and Jackson County (south of the river).
@eluko79 No problem! As a lifelong resident of metro KC, it caught my attention. If you ever have questions regarding KC, please feel free to ask. Always enjoy your videos!
@simplykristib Will US-71 keep its name north of the interchange then? I think it looks cool through there and I honestly don't mind those stoplights.
@eluko79 yes. the courts have that section of road tied up the way it is. I think they should free it for changes and mandate pedestrian overpasses instead. modot was smart, though with one thing in case things change. everywhere there's a stop light the median widens so much they could turn current US 71 at those sections into outer roads and put in a new freeway down the median
@eluko79 Yes US 71 will remain U S 71 north of the interchange. There are no plans to take away the three stoplights at Gregory Blvd, 59th Street, and 55th Street.
@us71 I once read about an old proposal to extend I-45 from Dallas, through Joplin up to Kansas City, but I guess its changed to only go as far as Tulsa.
@dvferyance If it was extended it would have to be labeled I-45. 29 can't be east of 35. There's a planned extension of I-45 between Dallas and Tulsa so this would likely connect with that.
@eluko79 Maybe but I haven't heard any plans to extend I-45. Yes I-29 would be out of place but also remember most of I-71 is east of I-75 and lets not forget where I-99 not to also mention much of the planned I-73 is east of I-75 and even I-77 is so there are exceptions to the grid. If I-29 is not going to be extended to Joplin than what's the explanation for the I-35 duplex?
Brought back instant memories of my visit in 2006 to KC. The new Paseo Bridge looks nice!
On a side note, you seem to always feature some really catchy electronic music. I just looked up Vitalic; downloaded a few tracks that I may use in my future videos. "Thumbs up!"
Nice! Kansas City is the metro area with the highest amount of lane miles per capita. In theory, it should be one of the least congested metro areas of the U.S. Traffic volumes are not high though, I don't think there are spots with more than 150,000 AADT.
@aswchris Wow! Awesome trivia Chris! Thanks. Do you know if Hennepin County is up on that list too? The close proximity of the highways reminded me somewhat of Mpls.

@simplykristib Yeah my bad. I accidentally used the wrong sign for the clay county entrance. I'll try to fix it.

I-49 will end at the I-435/I-470 interchange in Kansas City. I-29 will remain I-29.

I didn't think much of the city itself, but I liked KC's (and, overall, Missourah's) highways--they seem to be in pretty good shape overall.
AlvinHDavernport 6 months ago
They widened 29/35 from the split to downtown! I thought that would never happen.

I-29 is supposed to be renumbered I-49 When It will be extended to I-49 in Shreveport, Louisana.
1867Phoenix 6 months ago
@1867Phoenix Just US-71 between Joplin and KC will be renamed. It'll either be I-45 or I-49.

@eluko79 It'll be 49

I-49 will follow US 71 from KC to Shreveport where it will join existing 49

I think I-29 is planned to be extended south with US 71 to Joplin. That would explain why it's duplexed with I-35 to downtown.

dvferyance 6 months ago
@dvferyance Maybe they just wanted it to end at I-70 to avoid confusion. Kind of like how 694 overlaps 94 in mpls.
