Drumming for Dummies! Absolutely the worst sounding cymbal of any kind I've ever heard, and I've had some really shitty sounding cymbals...time for mom and dad to buy him a new kit...
OK fellow beginners - this is bad instruction. Forget trying to just 'drop in' the snare on his one-ee-and-a-two-ees. It goes like this: 'one-and-two...' normally - i.e. (hh)-(hh)-(hh+snare), and then the faster pattern is (hh)-(snare)-(hh)-(snare)-(hh)-(hh+snare)-(hh) .. do that slowly to get the feel - then make that hand pattern fit the timing.
if this video is about the snare why the hell are you hitting the crap outta the ride. and secondly anyone that's been playing drums for a week can play that by ear idiot.
can you show an example of, like while doing a roll on the snare, you can do left then right alternating bass drum cymbal crashes while keeping the roll going?
yeah what is it...because mitch never ever recorded this beat...there is no hendrix recording studio or live, nothing of mitch where he plays single backbeat like this.
THE mitch mitchell drum beat, as if he only has one. mitchell was one of the most graceful. i think eHow better get some real musicians....of course they go with actual music companies.
I agree with the comment that he holds the sticks to high. If you hold the sticks that high you have a zero chance of getting any bounce and rebound happening which is an important part of drumming. Not to knock the instructor, but i have to agree that these guys on expert village seem to be missing something or they need some or more instruction themselves. But i guess at least they are trying to help others so its ok. Check my lessons out at tunedintrax. Peace everyone.
A little extra hight while holding the drum sticks helps show exactly what hes doing..........and who cares if the stuff hes teaching is easy. If Joe Satriani were to teach a novice how to play twinkle twinkle little star on the guitar would you consider him a bad guitarist?
dont worry about those assholes they all probibly fucking suck at drumming and beat off to nut staned photos of travis barker and cry themselves to sleep holding a pair of drumm sticks
when i said "channel" i ment the "experts" on expertvillage, i never said i thought i was better than everyone else, i KNOW im not better than everyone else. im not that arrogant and retarded.
very funny,I guess you've never had lessons before?
All though counting like this sounds unusual, helps it relay a particular feel ,I attended a Louie Bellson seminar several years back, guess what he counted the same way.
what's wrong with the sound of the kit? it's just compressed and limited because it's a crappy camera and he's in a really live room. 99% of you out there are just morons.
The dynamics have been compressed/limited to less than 1dB based on the nature of automatic limiting in your average video camera at relatively high volume levels. If everybody and their dog has become a musician or a music teacher these days they need to dump their video cameras first and start to listen before they touch anything. Is this the modern result of over 100 years of audio recording? Yes, 'cause everybody is using these cheap non-professional gadgets without any shame! Goodbye Ears!
Oops, I wanted to post that by reesespeanutbudda's cquestion. Oh well.
Just to be clear though, counting can be a great tool for analyzing/breaking down a beat, teaching or learning a beat, and even for creating a new beat of your own. My original point in my first post was that I thought the teacher in these three videos did a nice job.
Thanks! You've gotten some rough comments on this vid, I don't know why. They are probably assuming that you always count as you play, instead of feeling it. Perhaps they don't see that counting can be a tool to *analyze" the beat, breaking it down into components, for teaching purposes (including self-teaching). Then, once learned, the beat should of course be incorporated into playing by feel when playing a song or jamming with others.
probably means playing with a familiar feel toward your drumset and to have your patterns and rudiments ''feel'' like second nature to you cause youve been over them a million times. i wish i felt more then i counted:p
What rich 4364 says above. Playing in a band, most players don't count out the beat (1e&a2e&a3e&a4e&a) the whole time. That would be distracting, taking away from the task at hand -- making music.
You practice the beats so you can play them and incorporate them without thinking too much about the mechanics of it. You have a palette of beats and fills and songs to work from. Then, you try to play them with feeling, to underpin and enhance the song, and make the whole band work together.
everything in music is about feel. Its about ebb and flow between musicians, its about the space between everyone and the relationships the instruments have with each other. You can tell when a band doesnt have feel because they sound stiff, nervous, and generally bad. When the whole band is tight and, essentially, good sounding its because they have a sense of feel
