Hey! I've always reckoned astrology is bunk, and I can't understand why so many people think it has something to offer, but what I really liked on here is to see the Winds tower at Oxford, always wanted to visit that. Really distinctive building and as iconic as the Radcliffe Camera (I think!).

Im aquarius and my daily horoscopes never really matched me but the aquarius traits match me like SO perfect.. like im friendly even to ppl i shouldnt be friendly to, im extremely honest, im artistic, like magick, changed, and negative traits im stubborn, and very unemotional and detatched. And i had some of my friends check their sign traits and it matched really well with most of them.. but idk.. maybe its all rubbish or coincidence or there might be some unexplained truths to it

When pluto transited the USA's 7th house which is gemini, 2 planes hit the twin towers. Very symbolic of an actual event. So when anyone says astrology doesn't work, who are they kidding?

He acted like a child and it was difficult to realise that this was supposed to be a Oxford Professor. We have him down as cancer rising or early gemini. Most of them probably apply just as well. 4th: There's confirmation bias. You've always thought about Aquarius traits, so you've spent your life finding ways they apply to you and ignoring ways they don't (no offense. everyone does this). If new acquaintances could always pick your sign (and others') then it'd be a little more real.

As an astrologer I have no idea why he didn't want to be tested. I would have done it. Astrology is a never ending subject. The reason why its so popular isn't because there are still a number of 'believers', but because there are many well known psychologists and philosophers that study and write about the subject, more in detail about planets, angles etc. Those books are more underground, you don't see them at Chapters.

Astrology predicts that all people on the planet born between those dates will have the same tendancies.....and that is clearly false. Astrology isn't about the Sun in a constellation, for example, Taurus. The names of the Sun signs were FROM constellations. Astrologers calculate the Sun by seasons and degrees.

And even if those select few were a small scale universe of stars, and even if there was causality, somebody should still conduct a very, very, very extensive study on a large number of subjects, for instance, 10 born in the same minute within a year - that's 5 milion people, so that correlations can be made. Nobody ever did this.

Because "faith" entails that you accept in believe in something that you (or science) cannot necessarily explain. Having "faith" in something is the belief that there is more in the world than what science is able to proove. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Science isn't perfect.

I have been an amateur astronomer since I was very young..but even if I hadn't known much about astronomy or physics, I still would have known that "astrology" is nothing but ancient, moronic superstition. the point of doing even simple science is to prove a point. the fact that his empirical method is lacking shows clearly he failed to debunk astrology. If I want to unwind to strict intellectual challenges or not is not the matter with the issue of his science. I prefer intelligent discourse, since many americans (maybe other english speakers?) are willing to be mindless, numb in their minds and not make decisions. If we want to believe in humanism, this trend should stop.

Astrology was financed by kings to make predictions and a side effect of this was the expansion of knowledge in astronomy. As an astrologer I have no idea why he didn't want to be tested. I would have done it. Astrology is a never ending subject. The reason why its so popular isn't because there are still a number of 'believers', but because there are many well known psychologists and philosophers that study and write about the subject, more in detail about planets, angles etc. Those books are more underground, you don't see them at Chapters.

@the0fart0machine the grandfather of computer science principals and theories dominate the industry was Prof. Alan Turing. who spent his entire working life within "orthodox science". science being proved "wrong", it happens all the time. Indeed most scientific and academic careers are spent in the persuit of testing, modifying, clarifying and correcting other peoples theories. One only has to glance at the content pages of pretty much any peer-reviewed academic to draw such an observation.

To my knowledge no scientist has ever done a thorough systematic study of Astrology, so you fail on that count. I understand the concept of faith, but faith goes completely against rational thinking, and Richard Dawkins tends to side with logic. In some cases there is also evidence AGAINST a claim, such as astrology. Richard Dawkins performed a non-bias test to falsify astrology, and he did exactly that

Because "faith" entails that you accept in believe in something that you (or science) cannot necessarily explain. Having "faith" in something is the belief that there is more in the world than what science is able to proove. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Science isn't perfect.
