#6060 was restored by CNR Pt. St. Charles Shops in 1972-73. Her first trip was Montréal-Victoriaville QC on 15 Sept. 1973. Followed a whole lot of excursions to Ottawa, Portland Me, Rivière-à-Pierre QC, La Malbaie and Clermont QC, Sorel QC , Hawkesbury ON, Grand-Mère QC, until 1978 then transferrede to Toronto.
I remember my dad taking my brother and I over to see Harry Home at the CN works ward in Jasper, Alberta when they just started some of the restoration work on her, I have a picture of my brother and I standing in the boiler when the nose was off her...such a beautiful locomotive.
its a shame such a fine locomotive such as the 6060 is only running on a tourist railroad and not allowed to run on the CN mainline what a waste of a fine locomotive andits a real shame that the CN wont get a steam program and follow there Canadian brother the CPRR
Some of my favorite 6060 memories: riding the cab at 90 mph; riding the cab in a runpast; getting a great sound bite running through Long Branch at around 70, riding through the Uxbridge and Campbellford subs; the Gravenhurst trip...
What a great video! It's good to see it's still in good working order. I remember seeing it running on excursion trips between Toronto and Niagara Falls in the 1970's. May this iron horse have many more good years ahead.
What a beautiful Loco, good to see shes still out running. If it would only be possible to get her out for a long main line run maybe 79 to a 100 mph :-)
Wow, nice to see this. I made a couple of fan trips on 6060 back in the seventies, one a circumnavigation of Toronto (Summer 1975?) and also a trip from Gravenhurst to Washago in the fall of 1975.
It's great to see that 6060 is still going strong, and sounds great! I must pay a visit to Alberta to see her again...
We tried to get tickets for the whole Toronto - Gravenhurt trip, but they were sold out. We drove up to Gravenhurst, and were able to get tickets on the short trip from Gravenhurst to Washago and back.
I'd love to get a copy of that reel to reel recording...!

I'd love to get a copy of that reel to reel recording. I recorded both of my trip on a crappy cassette player, but the tapes were lost years ago. At the time, I didn't appreciate how much I would miss those recordings...
hi transferd the 1975 gravenhurst trip on to cd,s was quite impressed how well they came love the sound of her climbing up the grade after the stop at bathurst st 18 cars im sure her exhaust woke people up it was load @sharp all in stereo my dad flipped when i paid 100.00 for the microphones shure top of the line anyway 3 cd,s 50.00 will print off pictures of runpast at bradford (NO BELL)fell off in newmarket lol
Kinda odd to see such a speed demon operating in reverse at barely 15 mph! Great clip nonetheless... would love to make the 2,000-mile trip to visit this railroad someday.
@Railfan59 6060 It gone. The Video "6060'S Farewell" is the last of it. It suffered a gear damage and the Royal Hudson 2860 Has to do it all alone fron Jasper to Prince George. Its all scraped and metal now.
I meet him at a Transport 2000 meeting in Kitchener, ON in 1999. We were friends for years sadly he died in the fall of 2007. I traveled with Bob and meet his friend Gary bolburn.
people did you know bob palmer passed away he was on all the 6060 trips in toronto i got all his video of 6060 @6218 he filmed himself if interested let me will post here
Man, does that ever bring back sweet memories. I used to ride that train from Toronto to Niagara Falls every Saturday for three years. The U-1-f's had a very distinctive sound, whethere they were chuffing into a station or running a high speed corridor at 75 plus. My favorite memory is the infamous cab ride from Hamilton to Toronto. We got her up to around 80. What a ride!!!
I wonder if that was the cab ride I had. On that trip we had signal problems at Bayview Junction and we were doing about 95. Was that the trip I'm thinking of? I rode from Hamilton to Toronto in the cab.
yes i remember that trip that was me probely my name is ed morgan @ the other was bruce kirney or bob cole i was the hogger on july 19/80 ucrs last run with harry home @ yes i know robertson the guy that drove me nuts was rob gibson sure had that old girl going the last trip 80-85 did you see the show done on it by chch charrinton live i was interviewed then like to talk more with you
I don't think it is scrapped, on April 11, 2011 a schedule for 6060 summer 2011 operations was posted by its owners: the Rocky Mountain Rail Society.

Actually it sounds better than the no.2 whistle on the 2816, that one sounds like a steam boat! This one is nice
