The new Atkins books allows caffeine if it doesnt slow your weight loss, so you don't have to give it up. I drink coffee, but quit using artificial sweetners, they slow my weight loss.
@batgirl791 I still follow or promote the 2002 version of the diet as the gold version, so my videos are made with those rules still in mind. They had many questionable books between 2002 and 2010 that I just decided to say 2002 was my guideline. Caffeine was always a YMMV, and my recommendations are simply the one I think best lend to guaranteed success.
so today i am still at my original weight loss of the first 2 weeks..and holding...i keep the 20 carbs steady..but now have a better idea of how to preplan the three cups for 12-15 carbs....and i will give up the caffeinated morning coffee...can you explain what a CLEAN atkins means..i read about it on the adbb..but don't understand it totally...no atkins products? no splenda? no caffeine?..i will not give up!!!!! and am so glad to have your videos and help along the way!
@mamasuify First to your original point, check out my Post Induction Stall Syndrome vid and why you might see a period of slow or no losses after first 14 days losses.
As for clean Induction, it primarily means:
* no frankenfoods (no low carb special products (Atkins included) or with ingredients your grandparents wouldn't recognize)
* eat only foods from the Induction foods list
It can also mean no caffeine and aspartame too- the caution products, but it is primarily about eating no LC foods.
Congratulations on your results. I think you have done a great job with your weight loss and I appreciate your food suggestions. I am in my 8th month and have lost 32 pounds. I am 59 and a short woman. The last month I have not budged further and I still want to lose about 25 pounds more. I don't eat sugar or desserts or potatoes, etc. but I do have some wine and occasionally a small amount of rice (1X week--1/3 cup). Any suggestions on my stall?
I was intersted to hear you say that you didn't get too bored and basically ate the same thing every day. I am happy eating bacon and eggs for breakfast, canned tuna for lunch and meat with vegetables or salad for dinner. Is there any need to change this routine? I dont feel hungry, but sometimes I battle with the knowledge that I am denying myself things that others can eat! Also, what's the rules on cappacino coffee during induction? thanks again...
When I say the same things I meant the same general things or plan each day. I did have some variety amongst probably 4-5 standard lunches I would have. My only concern with your listed diet is the amount of veggies. If you are getting at least 2 cups in each day from a variety of sources, you should be fine.
Regular Decaf Coffee is fine, but you need to get your water in on top of it. Caffeine is discouraged on Induction as it can cause stalls.
Thanks so much your a real inspiration i've watched all your videos finally and now since i've been back on the diet and now cheating in the overall month i was at 162 i think and now i've been back on the diet for 2 weeks now and went from 157 to 140 and lost 17 pounds almost 4 inches off waist my goal is to get down to 125 or 120 dont knwo how small i can get yet never been skiny so i have 15-20 lbs left.. thanks so much again
i aslo work out about 30 min for 5-6 days a week adn drink 16 glases of water each day and take an omega 6 3 and 9 vitman, and a calcium pill, went to 3 drug stores to find a multi vitman w/ no iron adn cant find one
That should be fine for exercise -- just be aware that within the first 2 or 3 weeks the exercise may appear harder or more difficult, but you should acclimate by three weeks and be back to former performance levels.
As for the multi- without iron, I take Centrum Active (Walmart Equate brand), and that one I don't believe has Iron in it. I would think you could find that Centrum brand almost anywhere. I hope this helps.
first off your video was great.. i dont have a buddy to do the diet w/ though but i want to do it for me and my husband.. i want to get down to 115.. i have a question about the food i start my day off w/ 2 eggs from either here or mcdonalds on the way to work, for lunch 2 cups of lettuce w/ cucumbers in olive olie and pepper and eihter chick, prok chp, steak 1 piece w/ tabasco sauce, dinner 1 cup cooked brocoli w/ butter and pepper w/ a pice of meat or ground beef
Sorry, I missed answering this in the other video. That menu should be fine. You should be getting veggies under your 3 cups, and be getting enough proteins and fats with it as well. I can't see anything wrong with it.
Hey bowulf im a young guy kind of im 25yrs and im going to start Atkins now as i right this but i love football with the season startin soon how bad is beer or better yet can do a vid on ATKINS SAFE WAYS TO GET DRUNK i love to get drunk so whats the best stuff to drink while im watchin the games is light beer out of the question?
Watch my next video where I deal with drinking question. The danger with drinking alcohol is all fat burning is immediately suspended until all alcohol is consumed, so bear that in mind if you are trying to lose weight.
You can drink up to 3 servings of artificial sweetener, so 3 cans or 3 12-16 oz portions of Crystal Light would be fine. Make sure you get your water in on top of this though.
Your an inspiration dude keep up the good work, great to see somebody showing the truth by their results, I found back in 2005 the truth of carbs causing insulin resistance :)
Have you tried the mock danish recipe that I posted a video for? It's pretty close to that flavor. If that still doesn't cut it, try the Oopsie roll that been making the rounds in the low carb community and add some cream cheese to it. Jimmy Moore made a french toast recipe out of it recently on his blog.
Please see one of my first questions where I deal with this very question - how much can I lose or how quick can I lose it. It deals with this question better than I ever could, but here's the synopsis. You should lose about 3-5 pounds in the first two weeks, and the rest in the next 9-12 months. BUT the real question is do you want to keep it off?
If so, you have to make long term changes, which the Atkins Diet is geared to do.
Hi, i have been on the atkins diet for 20 days now, and i have lost only about 4 pounds mainly in the first week but after it remained the same, i am sticking to 20-25 gm carbs a day and drinking 2 1/2 liters of water and i do bodybuilding 3 days a week.
i dont know why i am not losing the weight, and i nearly given up on it today but will give it till the end of the week, it very furstrating.
How much do you have to lose? Are you measuring yourself to check for changes in those areas? Check out my newest video, which should be posted in a few hours I hope, which deals with stalls and how to handle them.
well just a little comment here, u say bodybuilding so you may be having some muscle weight gain, you better measure your body fat to be sure youre losing the fat, thanks.
if you are body building, then that is probably why you haven't seen it on the scales. Remember, the scales are not always the main focus! Your building muscle so your body weight is changing for the better. try cutting back on the protien, and increase your carbohydrate intake to 40 grams a day. That is what i am doing and i have lost 11 pounds in 2.5 weeks. I think that body building is great but don't let it discourage your weight loss. 4 pounds is great! Just don't give up. You can do this!
The Atkins Diet will definitely work for you if as you mentioned you make longer term changes. Most diets will fail if you return to old eating or activity patterns. If I were you, I would see where my weaknesses and tastes lie. If you are troubled by snacking/grazing or can't control sugary food intakes, Atkins Diet will work wonders curing you of that problem.
But the days of eating donuts or pizza everyday are over. You will eventually be able to eat those things in frequently.
I'm a person with a major-sweet tooth problem, so i use fruit as a replacement. And for diet, I try not to touch carbs AT ALL. Then after my weight loss i become reassured that eating crabs and my sugary loves would be okay. Then i start binging. Any advice???
If you are at goal, I would suggest you perhaps organize a day where you can eat as you want, but immediately get back on the diet the next day. This is a special day once a month or every three weeks. I would also suggest that you might loosen your diet to allow perhaps higher daily carb count if you haven't already. Remember Induction only needs to last 14 days. In the maintenance phase, I have heard of people who eat as high as 125 carbs per day. If you are not at goal, let me know.
Thanks for watching the videos. Everything in that recipe (mock danish) is acceptable for Induction, so it should be a fine treat. Just watch your daily sweetener intake (less than 3) during Induction and first phases of OWL.
Please don't stop the videos. Weight loss is very difficult even at best. A good portion of us have lost the weight on Atkins and backslid. I am now back on the program and have a goal in mind to help me stay competitive. You help so much and I wanted to say thank you for doing something you don't have to do.
Thanks for the comments, I hope to have a new video out later this weekend. I am still committed to being around and helping as many people to be and stay at goal as I can.
I will say it again....YOU ARE FABULOUS! Keep the videos coming....you help me every day with my "sticking to the plan!!" Thanks for your inspiration Kent!!! :)
Hi there, great video, you sure help me keep motivated, even after three years of low carbin' it, still need a push now and then... sure makes a difference visiting your blog! ~thanks =)
Hello Ken, I am on the Atkins Diet and have lost a total of 75 lbs with little excercise. I just went under 399 lbs. What did you do for excercise when you weighed 400 + lbs. I started blow flex, walking and got a gym membership for Xmas. How did you start off excercising with that much weight and what did you do to stay with your program... I am having a hard time with consistancy...
You are very welcome. It is my pleasure to share what I know or gained from others, and I hope it enables others to be even bigger losers than I was.

It is always great to hear from another longtime Atkins followeer. I am also blest to have my wife along for the journey again. It is so much easier doing it with a spouse who believes in it as much as you do.
I have been on the Atkins lifestyle for about 4 years. Four years ago, Atkins used to sell low carb bagels, hamburger buns, and hot dog buns. They tasted amazing, and I would have low carb barbecues during the summer. Sadly, as I'm sure you know- they discontinued the products.
Do you know of any websites/bakeries that sell low carb baked goods such as bagels? I heard of a recipe, but it included cream cheese- which I am not a fan of.
