i wish they'd say more about the guy on the piano after all he was a really big part in the movie bein bogies best friend, the only character aside from ingrids that new him in paris and the person who actually played AND sang as time goes by. considering the times this was a great part where he was treated as an actor and not 'the dumb subserviant black guy' and yet no one ever mentions him...they mention claude rains etc more than him. its a HUGE shame and really annoying not to mention unfair
@xvt4 I am so with you on this. Sam's character is one of the best and most progressive things about "Casablanca." The fact that Rick treats Sam as an equal and a friend makes it so easy to forget that this movie was made in the 40s, and it just makes both Rick and the film itself so much more impressive. It's odd that critics don't mention Sam more.
Isabella wasn't born when Casablanca was filmed. Pia was born in 1938 so she would have had a bit more experience on the subject. Maybe that's why only she is featured.
Life does not come with a script! I find it interesting that the directors did not know which man the leading lady should be in love with as the screenplay was not complete. JUST Like REAL LIFE. But love does not choose...love just IS. There is no explanation for it. Does there have to be?
It sucks that I can't hear this, but Steven Bogart sure looks like his father.
