Given that you did and/or do work in the south pole, have you been to the "hollow earth tunnels?" #1 66°36'14.70"S, 99°43'11.11"E #2 66°33'13.75"S, 99°50'24.84"E ??? I'm not suggesting that there is anything there than a couple of tunnels, but curious if you've been there?
During the summer, there are multiple C-130 flights each day - they don't all make it due to bad weather, but there are lots of cargo flights down here.

I imagine they built the buildings in there.
