I remember this. This was my senior year at Auburndale High School (2008) and I couldn't even get to school because you couldn't see! It was horrible!! Good thing was it was kinda like a senior skip day XD
ok yes there was no way to prevent this freak accident however if you have a blue lens for your dome light during thick fog it will help see the white line. not a solution just a suggestion
the thing is, some will slow down in hopes everyone does...some stay the speed limit in similar hopes. everyone is then going different speeds then crashes happen. even stopping will not help. there is no routine drill to do for this is very rare...
R.I.P to those that passed. However, the sad truth is, people in Florida cannot drive well. All the tailgating, cutting people off. There is not one day that goes by that I don't see somebody pulled over or in an accident.
the worst part is....it was supposed to be a "controlled burn" by the fire department and they apparently didnt check the possibility of fog that morning. R.I.P to those four people.
This is an example of driving too fast for the conditions. Just because the speed limit is set at 70mph for that area doesn't mean you can go 70 in adverse conditions like this. You can get a speeding ticket for driving too fast for the conditions even if you're driving below the posted speed limit.
I noticed while in Florida that the standard of driving is terrible over there. Any lane will do and people just randomly travel from the left lane across the middle lane then across the right lane to get to there exits, RIDICULOUS. Dont even start me on getting cut up by others.
My grandmother and cuz was in this accident...My grandma didnt make it....she was smashed between two tractor trailers and my cuz was bearly cut out tha car...R.I.P Grandma..
"I couldn't see it because of the fog. I just kept hearing impact after impact after impact," motorist Jim Palmer recalled, pounding his fists together for emphasis.......thats my brother i remember getting called out of skool for that..
Um, nope. This was a sudden fog, and dense to the point where you literally couldn't see your own hand in front of your face (verbatum what one of the responding officers said). It's an Interstate, people will drive fast, however, if you can't see 10 inches in front of your face, slowing down to 30 isn't going to do much for you. I lived in Orlando when this happened, and it seemed pretty unavoidable. Also, most drivers know that occasionally fog can suddenly blind you, it happens.
@ThatShinnbobFeeling they did not have time to stop! okay! it came out of no were and i'm sick of people saying that something could of been done to stop it from happening.
I remember that. We had days of thich smoke and fog. I believe the interstate was shut down for a week. The road was so damaged it had to be repaired.
WHEN U R READING THIS DONT STOP OR SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN! MY NAME IS SUMMER I AM 15 YEARS OLD i have BLONDE HAIR ,MANY SCARS no NOSE OR EARS.. I AM DEAD. IF U DONT COPY THIS JUST LIKE FROM THE RING, COPY N POST THIS ON 5 MORE SITES.. OR.. I WILL APPEAR ONE DARK QUIET NIGHT WHEN UR NOT ExPECTING IT BY YOUR BED WITH A KNIFE AND KILL U. THIS IS NO JOKE SOMETHING GOOD WILL HAPPEN TO U IF YOU POST THIS ON 5 MORE PAGES
@22oyap if your dead you should be reading the akashic record and trying to make sense of your sins- not farting about on youtube - get a life - no, sorry - get a death.
I live right by the water tower and radio tower that is in one of the pictures. I can put it to rest that the fog was so heavy that you could not see 5 feet in front of you. Surprisingly, it was even worse the next day. I had to lean out the window of my Ford Ranger to navigate by the yellow line in the middle of the road. Couldn't even see over the hood. Fortunately, FHP and PCSO had I-4 shut down and there were no accidents. Oddly, from seeing it first hand, the smoke didn't cause the fog.
The guy below me is a damn loser .. STFU if you dun kno wut da hell you talking about. I saw the live coverage and you couldn`t see 5 feet in front of you.

is it foggy suppose to be cold weather.. all these fire fighter and servicer man are in T shirt and the stupid caller is saying its soooo foggy that they cannot see whats a head... loserrrrrrrrrr
Yeah Umm obviously you don't know the situation as well as you should to be talkin shit on it cuz I lived in Florida when it happened but im from Pa & I jus thought they couldn't handle a lil fog.. it wasn't jus fog, it was fog and smoke from a controled fire right off of I-4 and they mixed, so lets throw your ass into that situation and then well see who the real loser is.........
The United States really needs to mandate for new market vehicles, as is done in EU for that market - for all vehicle and trailer categories, the requirement of FOG TAIL-LAMPS (rear fog lamps). (SAE J1319).
The rear fog light is 'primary defence' the world has against crash occurrence under such lousy visibility conditions.
Tuition and driver behaviour is of course a state and police matter.
A perfect example of how stupid these 911 operators are, okay okay okay...I report wreckless drivers all the time and disabled vehicles, each operator is so stupid making you repeat yourself three or more times and then they transfer you to make you say it all over again.....

on the crashed vehicles the rescuers spray painted "EJF" or "ETF" what does that mean?
joeyb55 1 year ago
People just don't know how to slow down.....and leave a SAFE DISTANCE between you and the vehicle ahead.
I'm sorry for the loss of life....especially since it COULD have been prevented. :(

Dense fog like this is a terror. You can't see the front of the car you're driving. You're scared to pull over and scared to stop.

PEOPLE- If it is not already common sense, DO NOT DRIVE INTO CONDITIONS WHERE YOU CANNOT SEE!!!
Stop and put your hazards and rear foglight on and WAIT!
