Why?? When you could make it soooooo much cooler (not that it isn't already) and faster . The model T is the base for the quintessential hot rod (the T-bucket). Besides, That's one of the great things about cars, if you don't like what someone else has done to one, you can always put it back.
Personally i think those plastic POS's rip the heart and soul right out of hot rodding. First of all their worthless, and a dime a dozen. They are all show, and most WILL fall apart. They are NOT hot rods, hod roding is about a metomorphisis from one car into another. And anything that starts out life as a hot rod, isn't one. And last but not least, anyone with a wrench, a hammer, and half a brain can build a kit car. Which means they are nowhere near as special.
pt2: And as far as restoring an original hot rod. that's cool. But originals are only cool in a historical, classic, since. Hot rodding is about building YOUR car. When restoring a classic rod, you're only fixing someone else's car. but that's just my opinion. Even a plastic POS is better than no rod at all (just barely).
LOL. You got that right!!! One of them did have a little pickup bed. You perhaps could stash a few kids back there:)) I'm betting the law in your neck of the woods is like it is here about requiring child safety seats. Of course that's a good idea no matter what the law is.
I think the law is intended for the tractors that are around here. I don't think these monsters that I get stuck behind only when I need to be somewhere at a specific time would sustain much damage from a car, regardless of the speed.
The operator of the speeding car on the other hand, might learn a lesson the hard way - if he survived.
Gottcha. I Knew A Girl Whose Husband Worked For John Deer Out Here; And The Store Was Losing Business Because Of All The Development. I Don't Know If They Moved The Store Or Not; But It Was A Bitch To Get Behind One Of Those Tractors On What USE To Be A Country Road. And Yes; Todays Vehicles Wouldn't Stand A Chance Against A Tractor.
Ya, I'm still kicking myself for not giving KurtGnu a shoutout when I saw the rubber chicken. I never thought of it until later on. I'm sure I could have spotted a few more whimsical customizations but I was afraid the owners would show back up. Although, I'm sure they're used to people oggling their cars.
I'd bet money on it that they love people looking at their cars. It's like the classic car nights that the Bob's Big Boy in Burbank has every Friday night. I used to live down the street from that place and KNEW not to head down that road because traffic would be so bad. People with classic cars LIVE for that attention, and for all the work they put into it, I say more power to 'em!
You mean there's actually people out there putting hours and hours of time into a hobby, and it's *not* Youtube. The people driving these cars were weirder than I thought, LOL.
Yep, they were really pretty interesting. As I was editing this and saw the rubber chicken hanging down on the backside of that one car I thought of you and your banana eating contest video, LOL. I wish I'd thought of it when filming so I could have given you a shoutout.
Oh man this was heaven on YouTube! Man I have a passion for cars, and this was a real joy. Thanks for posting this brother. There was a Model A on Ebay nearby for an affordable price, ugly condition... but it ran! Ahh those are things one lives to regret. Hope you're well. - John Reagan
I know what you mean. After I posted this I watched a few other Model T YouTube vids. I saw one guy hand cranking his with a crank in the front. It actually looked a little dangerous. I think later on they had an electric starter though. I'd say that if you know how to shift a modern manual tranny you should be able to shift one of these though.
I'm doing fine John. Whoops, just now clicked on your channel and see I'm behind *yet again* with someone I follow closely. I'll have to check out your new vids.
Thanks Jean, It's an old building but the restauant has only recently opened. I'll agree it certain is a great looking building. For the life of me I'm sorry to say but I can't even remember the name of it right now. They have a small to medium sized food bar for $6.99 and a pretty typical menu. I got a steak sandwich which was pretty good.
MAn what great old cars. I always wanted a T-bucket roadster I guess they were based on some of those Ford T-model designs just modified and low to the ground with the big engine and the cool exhaust pipes. OR just give me a '55 Chevy again and I'd be happy. Far cry from what we have to drive today. In some ways MUCH BETTER then than now. VERY cool.
Thanks TonyDi. Ya, I guess it's a double edged sword, in some ways they were much better but in other ways not so much. I'm sure if you took one of these on a several day trip and tried to cover several hundred miles a day you'd probably get frustrated with the breakdowns and be totally wrung out be the lack of air conditioning and the rough ride. cont.
On the other hand they'd be so much easier to work on and repair. But undoubtedly they are certainly cool cars. They were built for their times. I've seen footage of them offroad easily navigating in steep muddy terrain where a modern car would be stuck in two seconds flat.
What a stroke of luck they turned up like that just as you were there in the car park and amazingly had your camera....It made me think of the Whacky Races cartoon and the anthill mob. I loved the mix of old and new as in old car with extreme paint job. Great job, cheers, Lesley
Thanks Lesley. Yep, I was certainly surprised at my good fortune in getting this footage. And especially the part where several of them drove in right by me. It pays to carry a camera with you. Mine is pocketable so I have it with me a lot.
WooHoo, I can't wait to see your new car video. Here's a tip. Be sure Caesar it fully housebroken before letting him ride in the new car if he's out of the crate:) Of course I know you know that, LOL. Wow, that car certainly got here quickly. BTW, what model was your old car? I don't think I've heard you mention it.
Neil is the one I am worried about letting into my car, not Ceasar! Ha ha. Just picked it up - it's beautiful. Photos hopefully tomorrow. The old car is a 1998 Intrigue (gold) that I have had since 2001. I loved it, but it's time to pass it on to Hailey.
I used to know bunches about cars, but I don't keep up like I used to. I actaully do stll change my own oil. This was a Model T lunch. Hmmm, I'd say a T-Bone steak would be a appropriate meal for them, although I don't even think that's on the menu there.
I was afraid someone was going to ask me that because it's been in business such a short period of time I can't remember it's name. It used to be in a diffent loacation downtown and was called Julie's Subs, but they lost their lease when that was turned into condo's and they've just been in this new location about a month. They changed their name to something else. I had a steak sandwich and fries there which was pretty good. They've been doing a booming business though.
Wow! Awesome Blnk. I love going to open air antique car shows or gatherings. To think that back in the Model T days, they thought that they were moving fast! hugs, Chris
Thanks Chris:) Ya, there's a drive-in (restaurant) around here which has several "Cruise-In's" every year where everyone drives their old cars and parks/eats/yacks/whatever. I've thought a time or two about taking my camera and doing a little filming but I never have.
I might get up the nerve someday. On the other hand I'd have to tell everyone I was filming for YouTube and I'd kinda like a bit of anonymity in my home town. Plus I'm not a good interviewer. We'll see.
I love what Henry Ford said about the Model T when it first rolled out of production and onto the market: "You can get it in any color you want, as long as it's black..."

Heck I've seen a documentary or two on them, I was pretty much drawing a blank for anything to say when I was walking around them I'm afraid.
That was great! I have always been fascinated by antiques. The cars were such a treat to see. It's hard to believe how much they cost back then, compared to the price of them today. How I wish I were rich. But then again... don't we all? :)

sorry you can get replicars and do that to them but leave the originals alone. You can probably find an original hot rod to restore.
