@1mutant1 yep ur absolutely right. I have a 92 Dr650 and its a pain to start even when I pull the decompression lever each time, it is still difficult to start any suggestions how how to get it going within the first few kicks?
You are supposed to pull the d-comp lever, then roll it over slow till it releases, then all the way up for a full kick. Will start alot easier and faster that way. I had a '90 dr 350 that i bored to a 435 and it was a real bear to start for the first season. Once broke in then wasn't so bad. I even broke the kick start shaft by not using the d-comp lever. Elect. start from no on...:)
yea u jus cant touch dat throttle on its first start up it always seems to kill out.wen i kick my xr650 i have to jump in da air with both feet off the groun.it prolly wudn kick on the kick stand tho my old dr wudn.
@rappy90 theirs no way cause i have a 93 dr650 if you dont use the compression lever everytime you kick it over if your strong enough to kick it down the kick start will swing back up with some crazy force.Ive been hit in the shin from it springing back up and it put a welt half the size of a golfball on it.you also have to sometimes manually release the pressure from the engine if the compression lever feels loose.Hard to start for the first time of the day but fun powerful bikes
@rappy90 this bike must be a 93 too cause it looks identical to my bike in every aspect except i took off the stupid shield things off by both grips like he has on his.But yeah mines a little hard to start for the first time on normal day.as a matter of fact I have to put my kick stand down and pretty much jump on the kick starter cause im not very tall
The reason why it did not start for log time was because the cylinder had no mix of gas\air inside. Also when you kicked it was not fast enough to bring gas\air inside. You should have put the bike on the side stand, than stading up and pressing the off compration switch while kicking fast. While doig so, leave the off comp switch and than it should have started right away. Great bike anyway, looks very good shape. I once had one of those. They are great.
Damn i still have the same bike and it hasent started in moths..... im starting to really hate the bike.

Can you kick it over without using the decompression level? Or is it just too much?
