According to the IMDb trivia section, this is a German abbreviation for "Swiss Society of Explosives Experts." (The guy with the tattoo was the one who set the charge to blow open the church's floor -- and caused half the mountain to collapse. So much for Swiss expertise! :-D )

It's because of his leg. I've been looking into this phenomenon for a while now, and this film helps to confirm my theory.

The way I figure, in a standard horror flick, regardless of subgenre(monster, slasher, zombie, etc), a black character's chances of survival are between 10 and 30%, depending on their relationship with the main character(s). But, if said black character has his/her leg injured, their chances of survival shoot up to between 70 and 90%, again, depending on importance.
