  • OMG I bought this album, can't remember if I sent away for it, or picked it up at Woolworth's (Woolworth's! God, I miss that store) but oh, did I play it over and over and over.

  • I still have this album. It's awesome!

  • my first LP, bought it just for Brother Louie

  • My aunt used to own "The Fantastic" album by K-Tel.

  • Damn! I still have mine........

  • They were making albums both in the U.S. and Canada with different song listings on each. This was one of two K-tel abums I first got that were Christmas presents in '73. The other was a three record set called Today's Super Greats. The reason they were able to cram so many songs is that most were edited versions.

  • Never heard of Les Emerson.

  • @kyle82364485 He was the lead singer of Five Man Electrical Band("Signs").

  • @smittykins Ah, thanks for the info.

  • My brother had this record, and half of the songs advertised here weren't on the LP...Dawn was there, so was Elton, ditto Sweet, Lobo too. But "Brother Louie" wasn't, neither was Charlie Daniels, Jim Stafford or Chester. Blue Mink's "Randy" and Gunhill Road's "Back When My Hair Was Short" was on our copy, and Rod Stewart did "Twistin' The Night Away". Could there have been alternate versions of the same LP? I am 100% positive it was K-tel's "Fantastic"; my brother still has it.

  • @KidCairbre I had this LP too. I think the missing songs may have been on the Canadian pressing.

  • Wow, I think I just had a brain anerism..........man, that's cool!

  • Bob Washington had a great voice for this

  • There's a Succubus at :30!

  • I remember when there was no digital but K-tel and Ronco were pioneering "analog compression"-that is, squeezing 22 songs on an LP ;-) I got them for Christmas a few times because they had so many songs!

  • @steadfastcoward

Yep. The horrors. They'd cut for run-time, then place 30 minutes on per side. Never mind, fidelity goes downhill after 20 to 25 minutes per side. So, little bass and very high distortion at the ends of sides. Probably didn't matter on the GE Wildcats and BSR atrocities that played these, though.

Absolutely dreadful on a high quality record player though. So, so bad!

  • @Manimal347 By the time Rock 80 came out the records were double albums when required and the pressings were pretty good. I trusted it to a good Realistic-Shure R47XT on my first LAB series table from Radio Shack...

What I like about this ad is the juxtapositioning of primitive stop motion animation, doubled departures of the artists names and the lissajous effect and splittin of selected ones.

    OUT OF SIGHT!

  • This was the first K-Tel album I ever owned...loved it....and had many more after that.

  • I absolutely love the cheezy video FX of the day!!!

    I own this one!

  • I had this album, back in the day

  • This is for the Canadian version (TC 212).

  • ...Woah!,One of the earliest memories of my well Being in music!,my Dad had this on 8-track & pretty much wore it out!,"Little Willie","Brother Louie","and "Hocus-Pocus"w/a Heavy distortion,I believe the Sylvers were on this pressing under "foster Sylvers",Bondi Juction dont hear nowa days,The Stampeders "Minstrel Gypsy" was a different cut than the top radio played/or studio release w/a Harmonica intro!,"Swamp Witch" is a pioneering gloomy southern rock w/much crybaby-wah that stafford plays!

  • What is the LAST song playing? I've heard it before but can't remember who it's by....

  • @tvgator1 that's Bongo Rock (Or Bongo Band as they list it) by the Incredible Bongo Band. yep, it was rockn' tune...

  • @thinbutfun Thanks! That one took me back to elementary school....

  • amo esse lp

  • I have this album, and it does *not* have some of the songs/artists listed here, like The Incredible Bongo Band, Chester, Les Emmerson, Charlie Daniels (too bad---I LOVED "Uneasy Rider"), Stampeders, and Peter Foldy.

  • @BobLiebermanComedian You might have the US version.

  • I have this on 8-track- it's where I first discovered the awesomeness that is Focus!

  • Originally produced on videotape, transferred to "kinescope" film.

  • I have this record.lol

  • @encorrall can i has it?

  • This is one of the better K-Tel records.

  • Those records used to be stamped out on the cheapest vinyl possible. Vinyl that had been pressed and melted back down multiple times before, paper labels and all... That's why they sounded so horrible, and that's why they were so cheap. I guess no one cared back then...

  • I had this album!
