@RockTouching There is plenty of off axis low level signal near the antenna for it to work. Some may be reflected. All I can say is it worked fine for me.
@vegmatic1966 mmm got it ! I've a similiar setup and i'm getting 1Mbit up and down. I guess thats normal with weak signals..I hope i'm gonna get better throughput with a panel antenna..its 14 db
@Aria8611 TEW-430APB This is an older video. Not sure if this model is still in production. New models still should have the same functions. I got the wire from a cheap antenna that came with an ASUS mother board.
@Redmond91 Repeats on a different WiFi channel. Since it is to be used nearby, signal is stronger but speed is as only as good as the signal it can receive.

I would just get fiber internet or cable or dsl. If you can't get that there which i know u can cuz u are in a city. I would just get 3G internet. Way faster then "free" WiFi. Or if you are in a city with clear wire WiMax i'd get that or a 4G LTE card from verizon.
people there are easier ways they have range extender devices you can buy and all and why cant you afford to pay such a cheap price for internet 30 bucks a month is cheap these days
@cisco760ca-REALLY? I HAVE A OLD INACTIVE "DISH NETWORK" SATELITE, YOU THINK THAT WILL WORK? I USE MY OWN @WORK BUT AT HOME ITS A DRAG...LET ME KNOW OF ANOTHER TIPS, THANKS...
or maybe you can scan for networks with your cantenna? and it will show you on the router set up page what is the SSID? Can you explain that more in detail? Or maybe explain with photoes of step by step set up of your router. Thx.
i was just wondering, after you have done all the hardware connections, how did you know what SSID to enter into your AP? I have read on the internet, that if you set it up in either bridge mode or repeater mode, you NEED to know the SSID of the WiFi network you are trying to connect.Of course you can walk and search for one that is on your street, but if it is in the other highstory building, then what? My point is: if you set it up as a repeater mode, how do you know what SSID and ip to enter

nice idea. I made what I call a wokfi antenna. It's a wok which I calculated the parabolic focal point of. Then I used parachute cord to tie a net on the front of it and rigged a USB wifi dongle on it at the focal point. Then I plugged it into my computer with a 10 foot USB extension cord. It gives me a 12-15db gain which makes a HUGE difference in transfer speeds.
Nice one! The wide diameter and parabolic shape will capture lots of signal. It must be pretty directional at such high dbi to help focus through the clutter of wifi networks. If my local wifi signals were any weaker, I'd have to go this route.
But try a better antenna( like biquads for example). Or dipole with a parabolic reflector. I tried this last one and it is the best i could get. the speed will improve notably once the signal is good.
He's got it on repeater mode, now his neighbors will get access to the free wifi because of his antenna and router. He does all the work, neighbors get it for free lol
@ConnorHTV Well if you were repeating the signal you wouldn't be able to encrypt it. Because your repeating the exact same security less signal. Smart one.
@tutoriales3minutos They also seem to be Capitalists too, look at all the money USA owes them. Words like Communism Socialism Capitalism are just words, USA has some socialist things like Social Security and welfare so what exactly is The USA? Obama is in the pockets of big business and Banks that makes him a corporatist not a socialist. Did they actually teach you anything correctly in school?
Change the coax to a higher grade, or shorten it, also set the router to client mode, and connect a seperate AP (by CAT5) on a channel as far from the main AP, and your speed should improve, as the Repeater will half your speed.

As someone else mentioned...Upgrade your antenna cable to something better that is shielded.
And maybe put some shielding on those large electrical cables shown in the video!
Magnetic gauss fields, signal crosstalk and interference...
Not good!
