@yakulanicksan No that would be the other way around. Little Richard was doing this when prince was yet a baby. Who do you think Prince patterns himself after? Little Richard is one of the many artist Prince borrowed from. Also mix in James Brown, Sly Stone & Jimmy Hendrix ....then you get Prince!
@dkn1362 yes i know.but he stil look's like a mix of them on the video ;-) ps:do you know why he never did dance to much.was there something wrong with he's hip???
Little Richard is explosive and charismatic. His ostrageous personality captured the music´s rebbelious spirit and his franticallly piano playing and raspy, shouted vocals defined its sound.
@L0SUAVES i agree....but you forgot chuck!!!.....little and chuck did it all themselves and wrote basically every note they played. that has so much more meaning behind it to say they are the Kings of Rock. if you watch the video this incredible show is done from,,,,little attacks chuck,,,and calls him a nice,,,,,black berry. sooo funny to hear the rivalry between them. and to think,,,they are both alive today...(they ARE arent thye?)....is beyond belief.
I was fortunate enough to live through this age. I listened to Rythm and Blues stations in Kansas City before it was cool to do so. Although I now like 70s and 80s rock, I still like his music. And I am a 73 year old white boy.
I think it's funny that people give credit to the New York Dolls for starting Glam Rock. Back in the 50's, a black man ratted his hair, wore eyeliner, slamming his instrument screaming at the top of his lungs. Yeah, that's right. Right here is the true founder of Glam Rock. Little Richard was lonnnng before the Dolls. People need to give credit where it's due!!!!
Man, did he deliver the goods. Just his damn outfit was worth the price of admission, then he blows the roof off with his piano playing and drives you wild with his singing. Who can do this today? Can anybody rock even half as hard? At least Prince knew who to copy.
wow i th ought it was a big deal when prince dressed like this for his kiss video and here i see LR dressed lke this in 72 whoa.. wonder what that looked l ike back in those days?

Little Richard is probaby one of the most underrated performers in rock'n'roll history, likely because of his transsexuality. But why should that matter? The voice, the moves, the PIANO! My hero, full facial makeup and all. No one ever like him, and that's a true compliment! GENIUS!
Sadly he was booed off the stage and Chuck Berry came on and rocked till the audience dropped,Bill Haley was the star of the show followed by Jerry Lee then Chuck and Bo Richard a hero of mine blew it big time get the full unedited version and see
You have to remember the context. In 1972 this music was something so alien, so removed from the pretension that had come totally infused pop music...
I'm white, i'm in my thirty somethings.... I defy any human being alive not to start gyrating to that beat? Little Richard, I've read your biography and all I can say is what an absolute legend you are. A true inspiration, unique and to be admired from the first note you played and then forevermore.... what a talent!
Little Richard has been a favorite of mine since a little girl. Awesome talent. He is a member of my church and I have had the privilege of shaking his hand. He is awefully generous I might add.
Agreed, this guy was one major player and influence on the whole history of pop/rock, though I think Prince drew his influences from a number of sources, Hendrix being another.
I have been saying this for decades (and I bet many of you would agree) Little Richard is the _undeniable_ king of rock n' roll. Rock on, little D, rock on!
I think Little Richard is without question ONE of the Kings of Rock and Roll, and only Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis were cocky enough to say it aloud.
I agree. Michael has a lot of Little Richard's style.....his howls, screams and overall flashiness. Although, I know he credits James Brown and Jackie Wilson as his biggest influences. Why would you say MJ is gay roblau? He's not.
Lemmy considers Motorhead a rock n' roll outfit, which is another way of saying that the band shares more in common with Chuck Berry and Little Richard then they do with, say, the Stooges or the (shudder) Moody Blues.
For a little mind fuck, try superimposing the lyrics/cadence of Maybellene on a Motorhead tune. It works frighteningly well.
Everyone is influenced by someone...little richard ripped off Billy Wright (although I would rather say 'influenced by) and what about Esquerita???get googling
I've been listening to Little Richard since the early 50's and along with Chuck Berry, Elvis, and Jerry Lee Lewis he shares the crown of the "King of Rock and Roll". They really rocked the kids back then and now. For me, Chuck Berry and Little Richard are the best, however. Just my opinion
A great performance of a great R & R Classic, 08-72 in England. Richard with a much smaller unit including a new drummer - while he fights the elements, i.e. bad mikes, bad lighting. Chuck Berry got the kudos in the press the next day.
This man is the TRUE KING OF ROCK -N- ROLL! the country fans can keep Elvis. because that is really all he sang. This is Rock not love me tender. what a whimp!
It annoys me 2 how few get it about the real kings v guys like Elvis who was "king" by ripping off the black people and repackaging a homogenized version 4 white kids who couldn't have known better (w/o time spent hanging around black churches or juke joints of the 1940s and 50s--unlikely, huh?) What he was was a decent interpreter of the "race music" of his day. Col. Parker steadily stripped his sound of any vestiges of balls to cater to little white girls who I guess could only take so much.
This will be over your head and / or beyond your experience, but Elvis' sound was what white people referred to as the "nigger music" until Col. Parker forced him to water it down, resulting in his ludicrous Las Vegas lounge act-style. My assumption is that you're unfamiliar w music pre-your hero and so can't hear how he's trying NOT to sound "white" in the manner typical of white radio of the time. This is really a discussion for adults, so you should perhaps come back some time after puberty.
dantean....you have put the most stupidest fucking comment on youtube i have ever seen you know nothing about music and by reading your stupid comment you know nothing about Elvis, for a start Elvis had put down ''thats alright mama'' ''good rockin tonight'' and many others before little richard or chuck berry was ever heard of, Elvis was'nt first neither was little richard or chuck berry
Do your own research -- and look at all of his songs, plus the singing style -- but he never came close, really. I think that he was always unhappy because he was never able to develop his talent himself. As a ballad singer he was fine, but didn't compare to black R&Roll singers, in hindsight. He might have been good as a front man like Jagger or Paige -- if he'd been born 15 or 20 years later, and he'd have been more independent. Col Parker was a parasite, sucked the life out of him.
No - it was their parents who could only take so much. They shaped their kids tastes. I was listening to Ray Charles when I was 11, pretty much had me hooked.
