@ChrisG1216 Sorry bro, but this riff and the riff in manic depression aren't exactly the same. Think before you speak, think about what you are going to say before you say it.
@Freemoviesrock ...i know its not exactly the same ..im not hater..just think that the riff is derived ..and the song relies so heavliy on it ...saw them the other night and wasnt blown away..glad some is still playing stuff like this ..but not as blown away as some people i know by this band..they were hyped up by some friends and i was expecting more....
@ChrisG1216 Oh okay. I see where you are coming from now. Yeah, they are still a good band, but really anybody who gets in the mainstream today will seem that way. So much music has been made and passed and it's hard for everyone to sound completely original. That's cool you saw them live though, even if they didn't blow you away.
@ChrisG1216 nothing in this song is a hendrix rip off, this is coming from someone who started playing guitar 14 years ago because of what i heard on hendrix's albums. these guys are very original and sound great even with the simplicity of their music. i learned their magic potion and thickfreakness albums in a day just sitting infront of the stereo with a guitar. they are good! ur just blinded by all the other shit music out there today.
@strongbad73 While all other music today is shit, it does not make this better when compared to more authentic acts of yesteryear that these guys are emulating. f you have been playing guitar for 14 years, how can you deny that the main motif of the riff, (the part that is the best part) is not the same as Hendrix no matter what key, or how fast you play it.

jdawgtha, obviously they're fucked up. Give the drummer a break. Second, it's called good songwriting. That's just as much talent as shredding a guitar.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Regarding my earlier comment below about mistakes on the studio record, I guess in fairness their producer is probably more to blame for that. Among other things the producer's job is to be a "coach" to get the best possible performance out of the musicians. Playing in the studio and playing live are two different animals in that regard. But I still stand by my assessment that this drummer isn't very good. You opinion may vary based on your own criteria of what "good" is.
Mate,do you have one good comment about The keys? Most critics can't "do" is what speaks the loudest in your opinions. By the way, what is your claim to fame,or technical expertise?
As far as I have heard thus far from TBK, one good thing I can say about them is that at least they are trying by playing real instruments- a guy playing a guitar into a raging amp, and a guy beating away at real drums is cool. But generally speaking, they just aren't very good at it. But, to each his own...you can like whatever you want.
you still did'nt answer my question; what is your claim to fame or technical expertise? The Blues (which the Keys predominantly are) is based on communication more so than technical perfection, in other words if you want to create an impact (which The Keys obviously do) the rule is; NEVER SACRIFICE COMMUNICATION FOR TECHNICAL PERFECTION. The Black Keys create an IMPACT, thats all thats neccessary, the proof is in their popularity.
I am just giving my opinion- to which I am entitled, just like you and everyone else here. But to more directly answer your question: I am not famous (I have no "claim to fame").
I have been playing music on guitar and other instruments for almost 30 years. My experience/technical ability is irrelevant, but if that's what you need to know, there you have it.
By the way: if you want to hear a young guy/band who can really kill, check out Davey Knowles and Back Door Slam.
"The Black Keys create an IMPACT, thats all thats neccessary, the proof is in their popularity. "
Britney Spears, Lady GaGa, and Katy Perry are all very popular as well. If popularity proves The Black Keys create an "impact", does that logic ("the proof is in their popularity") also apply to Britney Spears, Lady GaGa, and Katy Perry?

One tenth as good as this guy? You need to set your standards a LOT higher than that. This guy can barely play in tune, and the drummer's timing is so bad that he's even dropping beats on the STUDIO record, much less live. If you like this music then great- listen and enjoy. But to think they are proficient on their instruments- sorry, you're wrong. And if you think this is simply "minimalism", understand that poor musicianship and minimalism are two different things.
typical so called musician, go and have a wank over your guitar you fucking loser, i know so many musicians that think they play shit hot yet they havent got a creative bone in there body, jdawgtha i suspect your one of those types !!!
a good song is a good song dosent matter if you play it on a tin can with a couple of sticks, thats what youll never get a grip of and youll never go anywhere...

If you like it, then listen and enjoy. Personally, I agree that "shredding" is lame. I agree that people who are all about shredding/playing fast, adn too focussed on the technical aspects of music are boring and have little true talent. I'm not one one of them. I absolutely agree that it comes down to the song; a shitty song played well is still nothing more than a shitty song.
This is a lame song played poorly. If it were an intersting song I could almost forgive the sloppy paying.
Perhaps, but it's not me- I love the blues. Unless your definition of blues is to play and sing poorly, which again is not the same as "minimalism".
If you really want to hear the blues, start with Freddie King, Albert King, B.B. King, Buddy Guy, among many others. Even Jimi Henrix' album entitled "Blues" is great stuff.
Tell that to Junior Kimbrough's widow, her voicemail to the Keys is last track of the Keys' album cover album "Chulahoma". "You are the only ones that really play like Junior played his records. It makes me very proud."
And stop putting the word minimalistic in people's mouths. Just because one thinks that doesn't mean we all do.
there are always idiots like you who assume that, (no matter how good the music is), if the band is not part of the 'origional' blues artists its somehow rubbish. get over yourself
You are mistaken: I understand your point and I agree- and I am definitley not one of those idealistic "idiots". In fact, there is a great young band I heard about sometime last year: Davy Knowles & Back Door Slam. They are great- check them out.
ur an idiot with what u say, and its easy for anyone to see, judging by your comments, that you are one of those people who cannot like a new wave of a certain type of music compared to the 'origionals'
You are wrong. Check out anything by Derek Trucks, or Back Door Slam, or Joe Bonamassa, or...(can go on and on). I guess to you, an "idiot" is anyone who doesn't agree with your opinion. O.K- so be it.
i've never seen patrick play what appears to be a 20" cymbal on his right hand... can someone PLEASE tell me if any ideas what kind od cymbal is that? PLEASE!

i normaly go with Zidjians... i'm all about that sound so i'm really interested in that same one 20'... too many to choose and very expensive i dont want to fkt it
I personally have the Zildjian Hybrid K Ride. It has a loud bell and a great ride sound. I also use it as a crash (like Pat does) sometimes, and the sound is amazing.
