I am an advid fan of GOOD MUSIC & EVA IS GREAT MUSIC !!!! Of ALL the musicians I wish to have seen perform LIVE , She is the UTMOST one I would put at the TOP of my list ! BRAVO EVA ,for making the music you played YOURS !!!
A new Eva Cassidy album entitled "Simply Eva" will be released at the end of January 2011. It is an acoustic album of Eva and her guitar. I have always been enchanted with a story Eva's mom, Barbara Cassidy, tells about Eva singing on the rooftop of the hotel where they were staying in Greece. A few minutes into Eva's impromptu concert, people of the village gathered in nearby windows to listen. This CD will give Eva's fans the opportunity to be on that rooftop.
I love only the best----someone who make us all feel better about being members of the human race--like her.Bestis an inadquate word. There is no color to paint her!
thank you for sharing this video. i didn't know eva cassidy, just got curious who she is while surfing, sad to learn that she's already gone! her singing touches the soul!
I have just found Eva Cassidy and her music, and this is the first time I've heard this song, it's just stunning, song after song, just perfection, Eva, you now sing with angels, god bless you.
many thanks to you for posting this wonderful song...creeping slowly under my skin an touches my soul...listen also to the talented singer "marie-lena singing" and her version of miss you love
this is my favourite song by eva, even though they are all beautiful, this one touches my soul and sends shivers down my spine. So does over the rainbow and autumn leaves. simply astonishing singer!
this makes me cry everytime. i will always be saddened by her story, but at the same time, she has touched my life in a way that no other musician has so i am thankful for what she did.... BTW does anyone know the chords to this song!? i want to start playing it live.
I grew up in Big Sur and have been graced to be able to love Eva Cassidy´s incredible creations. Thank you CasaLucita for beautifully blending two of some of the most beautiful things in the world.
"Waly,Waly" is the most Beautiful. Your video & Eva's song, favorite, are truly touching to the heart & soul. The images in your video evoke serenity & beauty. Eva's song is a reflection of true love.
for my husband / his father, @ his memorial service in July,'09. He loved Mississippi River-The Water Is Wide. This traditional was one of the songs we sang. My love 'faded away like morning dew' early on the 4th of July,

I have tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat ... and I can't imagine how you managed to play and sing this for the memorial service ... my heart goes out to you. May you be surrounded by comfort and love ... and may Eva's voice help soothe your soul. Thank you so much for writing. Sending you a tender hug...
I agree with you, Davrostoo. This is the first photo montage I ever made -- before I discovered the arrangement of "Waly Waly" on "Wonderful World" which I, too, believe is even more beautiful than this one. Either arrangment is incredibly powerful and evocative to me. It's the last song Eva worked on before her death and as I explain in the top blue box, I believe her heart and soul were completely and extraordinarily engaged with this song. Her delivery affects me deeply.
By the way, for those listeners who are interested in hearing the other arrangement (a different "backup" orchestration to Eva's same vocals), you will find the other version in my channel Favorites -- fourth one down, created by Ladywort.
Eva Cassidy is simply a once in my lifetime voice of incomparable quality, tone and texture...and the voice on this clip is also senastional - this voice is not Eva Casiidy but a very, very worthwhile tribute to Eva
Thank you very much for writing so eloquently about Eva's "once in my lifetime voice" and its "incomparable quality". I couldn't agree with you more!
I must assure you, and everyone reading this thread, that the voice singing "Waly Waly" is indeed Eva Cassidy's. This recording appears in the first CD released after Eva's death, "Eva By Heart".
I will also point out that the comment posted below by "11962mcr" is from Margret Cassidy Robinson, Eva's sister.
Eva Cassidy is already a universal voice able to go beyond any frontier of time and space cause it arrives to the heart of all the people on earth (independently of the language) her voice simply comes from the soul and arrives to the soul...!!
Many cheers and many thanks for sharing her great recordings !!
Sometimes God gives a gift of such extraordinary grace and beauty that renews our soul, and makes us want to be better. Eva has done that for me. May your voice forever soar with the angels...
just like the owner of the video wrote, "transcendentally haunting" is the right way to describe this...and if you like this song i suggest you to listen to Judy Collings' "Black is the color", K.D. Lang's "Barefoot" & Lizz Wright's "A taste of honey" , i'm positive you'll enjoy those too, they can be found up here on youtube
To me, this song is painfully beautiful. Eva, you have a way of reawakening old memories, much like the way an old familiar smell does. I'm reminded of my childhood, past love affairs, and cross country journeys.
Listening to you, Eva, reminds me who I want to be.
CasaLucita thank you for making such beautiful videos to mirror such a beautiful voice. You preserve her voice and memory in the best way possible with these videos.
Amazing...transcending. Just found her today and haven't stopped listening...to every song I could find. Can't believe I'm just finding her now-- what a revelation.

This is so beautiful, Eva was so special. I want to say more, but I am speechless. Except to say that Eva's sing is so sweet to my ears. And this song. Outstanding. Especially at the end of the song, what a voice. Love you Eva. Hank7
I agree with you, Hank, the beauty of her voice and last verse of this song renders me speechless and transports me to a sublime place. What a voice, what a voice! There's nothing like it.
I whole heartedly agree with you, Roxanne! Did you know that Robert Redford's daughter is planning on directing a film about Eva's talent and life? I hope it will make many more people aware of this, as you so aptly stated, "massive talent"!
Danke fur dienen kommentar.
If you will forgive me, that my english is horrible, I´ll answere you now in englisch. Since seven hours I hear only Evas music here on youtube. I was in the mood for emotional/lovesongs - so I´ve looked for Evas song "Fields of gold". But what I´ve found is so much more! It was so fascinating, her music touched my soul. Now she is forever in my heart! Thank you
Missouramule, This song is on the "Eva by Heart" album and can be ordered through one of the websites I have listed under "More Info", directly below the subscribe button.
I found Eva on Nightline Friday night special five, six years ago. Than found her two weeks ago here after listening to Connie Francis, I was surprised to find videos of her, since no radio station here plays her music. I was listening to Autumn Leaves, by connie francis, I put eva up with connie francis. What a singer, my heart is broken that she passed away. Very sad. Hank7
casalucita, you should check out the irish singer Mary Black. There's not a lot posted here but I think it'd be worth some track purchases off itunes or something. Her voice is VERY similar to eva's and also has a sweet haunting quality.
I was Eva'd a couple years ago and shared her with friends and relatives. I've not found one person who hasn't fallen in love with her gift, her message and who isn't mesmerized by her dulcet tones. Thank you for sharing!
I love the new verb in your sentence "I was Eva'd a couple years ago". How did you first discover her? I am fascinated by people's stories. Thank you for your comment and for sharing. Tell us more...
Thank you! But that's how I feel about being Eva'd, she strikes the chords in one's heart doesn't she. I believe I was watching a movie and heard Kathy's Song, then in the credits found out it was her, researched her, was instantly heartbroken at her death, feeling I'd truly lost a friend who knew my heart.
I have been a fan of Eva Cassidy since I heard a 'tape' of her singing "somewhere over the rainbow" about 4 years ago and I was hooked ... she had the most amazing voice, such clarity and her guitar playing was awesome. Since then, I try and buy her cds whenever I can. Her song 'waly waly' is truly magical. It was one of our favourite songs by Eva Cassidy - when my partner passed away 6 months ago - this song was played at his funeral. She was truly a very gifted musician.
Thank you for writing and sharing your story. Did you know that Eva was also an artist? One of the things I find fascinating about her work is that it's as varied, original and unpredictable as her music. You can see her work on the Eva Cassidy dot com web site.
Waly Waly is on the album "Eva by Heart", produced by her longtime friend and collaborator, Chris Biondo, the year after her death. This particular song fascinates me. When Laura Bligh, Eva's cousin, interviewed Chris Biondo, he said that the very last thing she was working on was "Waly Waly". When asked "What song is the true Eva?", Biondo replied "Waly Waly".
I would have to agree. This is exquisite. I heard that towards the end of her life she said she didn't want to sing songs that required a lot of "belting" but just wanted to sing ballads.
I, too, find it exquisite and ethereal. Another poignant thing Chris Biondo said about "Waly Waly" was "that song can bring me to tears very easily, especially the end, the last verse."
Thank you, Joner888, for your posts of the Eva Cassidy Story by Trevor McDonald. It seems the more you listen to Eva Cassidy's voice and hear about her story, the more you want to know. And the more you want to spread the word about her incredible voice, art and life.
I ran out of superlatives long ago trying (inadequately) to comment on Eva Cassidy.
But I've a few to throw at Linda for her exemplary descriptive notes. Simply, this shows how it should be done.
Granted, Eva is unusual in that her genius is still not widely known. And I'm certainly not saying that every ephemeral popsong needs this treatment.
But this just shows what our (SURE I'M POSSESSIVE!) magnificent YouTube is capable of. We need to make sure Megacorp Google don't wreck it chasing $s.

Thank you

Bitte, Claudia,
She is forever in my heart too. Your English is much better than my German. Eva sings in a universal language, doesn't she? Pure beauty!

The most amazing voice I've ever heard. Rest in peace.

Wow, what a wonderful talent that has left this earth tooo soon. Thank you God for having her leave this song as well as the rest of her albums.

What album is this song from?
raymonda100 4 years ago
Waly Waly is on the album "Eva by Heart", produced by her longtime friend and collaborator, Chris Biondo, the year after her death. This particular song fascinates me. When Laura Bligh, Eva's cousin, interviewed Chris Biondo, he said that the very last thing she was working on was "Waly Waly". When asked "What song is the true Eva?", Biondo replied "Waly Waly".
CasaLucita 4 years ago
I would have to agree. This is exquisite. I heard that towards the end of her life she said she didn't want to sing songs that required a lot of "belting" but just wanted to sing ballads.
raymonda100 4 years ago
I, too, find it exquisite and ethereal. Another poignant thing Chris Biondo said about "Waly Waly" was "that song can bring me to tears very easily, especially the end, the last verse."

Beautiful song by Eva Cassidy and beautiful work by you!

Thank you, Joner888, for your posts of the Eva Cassidy Story by Trevor McDonald. It seems the more you listen to Eva Cassidy's voice and hear about her story, the more you want to know. And the more you want to spread the word about her incredible voice, art and life.
