Yes, this isn't supposed to happen.

I never played this on Genesis, but on Mac I couldn't yank myself up to that Doppelgänger.

@kain1384 must be. the doppelganger was supposed to close the door on him, so the hero would have no way to go but down. it's probably an overlooked side effect of the closing door animation being slow. on PC when you press on a closing pressure plate, the door is instantly closed.
