@Mashifyable First of all, a rat seed mix. "Good Choice" brand from Petsmart is good. Please read the labels as most rat food is full of fattening items. Also, fresh foods such as vegetables & fruits that are not high in acidic content. It's almost like feeding them what YOU would eat if it were a healthy diet. Research for specific items before feeding your rat anything. ^_^
@ImHereForMJ Actually, generic pet store foods are discouraged. I feed my rat kaytee forti-diet, which is just basically rat blocks. As for her main diet, along with my guinea pig who also eats forti-diet for guinea pigs, I feed them chopped romaine lettuce and cucumbers each night. They love it and it only takes me about 15 minutes to make, feed them, and get them set for the night. They can also eat kale, celery, and a lot of other vegetables. Just no iceberg lettuce.
@franklongbottom1632 My rat won't eat the green pellets so I don't do the rat blocks. I feed him all types of foods, including meats & whole grains. He's healthy, which makes me happy because my hairless rat was very thin & frail the whole time I had him, unfortunately.
@ImHereForMJ That's really good :D I don't feed my rat much meat, but she gets the occasional grape or piece of banana. Not my guinea pig, though. Most foods can make them sick or fat. And I'm sorry to hear about your hairless rat :/
@franklongbottom1632 You should continue giving her fruits that aren't high in acid. Oliver loves banana, but not so much grapes. Once their systems get used to it they won't have upset stomachs anymore. I never owned a guinea pig. They seem quite skitter-y to me. lol Oh, & thanks. Even to some 'he's just a rat,' but not to me. This is a ferret nation, & there is a critter nation that is better. It's the same only the bars are horizontal so the rats can climb & the bar spacing is smaller. 4 the cn, its $140 for the single & 200-240 dollars for the double. The video has multiple doubles put together.

haha it stays cleaner than you would expect :). As long as I'm not lazy and keep the litter boxes clean then they use them. Now they do eat all those hammocks I make haha
I bought the Ferret Nation cage, but I had a problem with my rats getting out. I had to put chicken wire all around. :(
