Oh smania! oh furie... Oh disperata Elettra! Vedrò Idamante alla rivale in braccio? Ah no; il germano Oreste Ne' cupi abissi io vuo' seguir. Or or compagna M'avrai là nell'inferno A sempiterni guai, al pianto eterno. D'Oreste, d'Aiace Ho in seno i tormenti, D'Aletto la face Già morte mi dà. Squarciatemi il cuore Ceraste, serpenti, O un ferro il dolore in me finirà.
ELECTRA O madness! Ye furies ... Despairing Electra. Must I see Idamante in my rival's arms? Ah no, let me follow my brother Orestes into the hollow abyss. Now you will have me for companion in Hades, in eternal woe, in endless lamenting. Within my breast I feel the torments of Orestes and of Ajax; Alecto's torch brings me death. Tear out my heart, you horned serpents, or a sword shall end my pain.
ELETTRA Oh smania! oh furie... Oh disperata Elettra! Vedrò Idamante alla rivale in braccio? Ah no; il germano Oreste Ne' cupi abissi io vuo' seguir. Or or compagna M'avrai là nell'inferno A sempiterni guai, al pianto eterno. D'Oreste, d'Aiace Ho in seno i tormenti, D'Aletto la face Già morte mi dà. Squarciatemi il cuore Ceraste, serpenti, O un ferro il dolore in me finirà.
This is absolutely amazing. Edda's voice is supreme! Her vocal acting is haunting, just as Mozart's vision of this aria is! I wish I could have lived more in her time to hear and see her perform live.
Edda Moser is absolutely the best Elettra of Idomeneo - this D'Oreste is fierce and intense and that top register is amazing. She has grand technique. Great singing from a great soprano
Sopranos come in all shapes and sizes. Personally I find the bigger, dramatic, darker voices far more exciting for Mozart. Edda sang what was in Mozart's time the prima donna roles - queens, aristocratic ladies & heroines, so her voice is appropriate to the lofty characters. For Elettra in Idomeneo I do like Edda and Carol Vaness (another big, dark Mozart voice) & Hildegard Behrens who sang this as more of a Mad Scene.
they both have the most mozartian voices!!! and they understand the music better than anyone... probably diana damrau is in the same league, but she she is a loght coloratura soprano, her voice is not as heavy as theirs, but you are right, these two women are the goddesses in the Mozart Oliymp
@TheBasilio Su vibrato es perfecto, el vibrato no es un problema vocal, o sólo que sea un caprino :S pero Edda tenía un vibrato maravillosa y con ese timbre tan espectacular era pefecta para estos papeles :)
Strange. Every Moser-recording I stumble across here sounds totally different to the others. Maybe because these aren't the original versions?
Furthermore I simply don't like her voice. It's just...TOO present. Everytime I hear her I have to think 'Please, a bit less would serve the purpose as well!' It's the same with her Donna Anna.
Of course...but not THAT present if you know what I mean! :D I really appreciate what she's doing because she is one of the best coloraturas out there, but her lyrical qualities are quite low. Look, if you song a 'Non mir dir' you need to express love, devotion but at the same time also grief and sadness. And if I hear Mdme. Moser sing it I think of the queen of the night being angry about someone. Maybe her voice is just too strong for me.
I agree. the more dramatic the singer's presence, opera is supposed to be attention grabbing and intense. if these qualities are not their, I get rather bored
@AccidentalTouch - Edda Moser is always "present" and those who love her love her for this as well as all her other incredible musical gifts. If you want someone less "present" then may I suggest you listen to many of the other singers out there who are less so.
EDDA EDDA EDDA LA SUPERIORE TEDESCHA ! Never heard a better soprano for Elettra Donna Anna Konstanze and Queen of the night! She is like Callas UNICA PER MOZART. I am proud to listen on youtube to her great interpretations - have all recordings since many years I adore her! BRAAAAAVA! Thanks for posting! VIVA MOZART

Is there any other soprano except Moser and Morozova, who is able to perform the final staccatos correctly and dramatically at the same time?
tomasburi 5 months ago
Such emotion and command... Perfect in every way. You hear the frustration, mania and angst in her voice.
One of the best renderings of this aria ever.

Wow such dramatism.... Moser always gives me goosebumps (in a good sense)

Edda is not a Queen. She's furious goddess of vengeance... dark and etheral at the same time... magnificent.

Troppo forte ?
Forse.
Ma se una sta incazzata che volete che 'n spinge ?
A me quelle che fanno ste dinamiche esagerate 'n me dicono niente.
Ve siete mai incazzati ?
ideasetras 2 years ago
Al 0,27 se capisce già che se magna roba bona.
Perfetta.
Timbro
Dinamiche giuste e non troppo esagerate.
Ma se può cantare meglio Mozart ?
Se sì non interessa.

the more I listen to Edda Moser, the more I love her. She is wonderful in this role !

I like Madame Moser very much; she's a real Elettra. But there was also Julia Varady - a great performancer of this difficult role.

well i accept your opinion... but i think her voice is magnificent. but the singer is a soloist so shouldn't his/her voice be very present?

I agree. Also, I think her voice presents SO much drama.

You should listen to her Iphigénie en Tauride, especially "ô malheureuse Iphigénie". Now if that's too strong you should listen to a soubrette.
