I agree with decogeckosa - you are so generous! It's lovely to see these works of art appearing under your hands... This particular piece had me open-mouthed as I watched - it's just totally fabulous... wish I had the words to describe how it makes me feel!!!!!
You are a very giving person, as many artists secretly guard their techniques.....thank you for sharing, as I am an "experimental crafter" and this type of art is just what I am attracted to....I also use hessian sacking, tissue paper and gel medium and bubble wrap.....I will visit your website....hope you are still doing what you are dong in 2011!
I dont comment often but I had to for this! I have to say I really enjoy watching all of your different techniques, and the final product was just beautiful. Ive recently started trying mixed media after I saw some of the things my friend has done, and watching you has given me a ton of inspiration for new ideas!
Another great work, Carla! Love all the texture. I haven't had any luck with transfers printed with my inkjet ... they always smear. Wonderful video, as always.
What printer do you use Nola? I use a Canon with the original cartridges. Once I used nameless and cheaper cartridges and it smear on paper too, but not with the real Canon cartridges. May be you use cartridges that are not from the same 'name' (i don't know how to say this ;) as your printer?
Jet ... inkjet. From what I'm told, it's not pigment ink. I'm going to play with it more. Serms there should be a way. Another artist suggested I use trandparancy film for inkjets made by Apallo, but can't find it locally. Maybe later, I'll be able to purchase them online.
Hi Mary, thanks for your comment. Gary's videos are very inspriring, I'm glad if I can inspire someone too, so we can help each other to create or own works of art. That makes me happy :)
Carla, this is yet another great piece. I love that way you take Gary's inspirational techniques and take them in yet another really inspiring direction. Thanks for sharing this (and reminding me about lifting paint OFF as well as laying it ON)!
Quite wonderful! I love how you used gesso to do the transfer..a great and successful experiment. In addition to death, the crow can represent a messenger, wisdom, communication and the underworld. The raven, relative of the crow, can represent mystery or exploration of the unknown. And, we can each assign whatever meaning we want to animals depending on our personal experience. They can be guides or inspiration. I do love assigning meaning but sometimes, a crow can be just a bird. :-D
Wow that is really powerful. I am going to have to try that technique at some point in the near future. So wonderful. Gary is influencing us all to create such innovative works and incorporate it into our own styles.
Carla this piece shows me gratitude. In my husband's tribe the moon was a maiden taken by the creator and placed in the sky. She was loved by the people who missed her very much.
Great painting Carla! I love the crow. To me it looks like the crow is standing on top of the world. Indicating that death (represented by the crow) is something that everyone on earth must face
Carla, I know I am not alone in my sentiments on this, but I am very happy that you came to YouTube and share your talents and experiments with us! I enjoy watching you work and you take time to explain what you are using without all of the extra yap yap (talking). Excellent! You are a real treasure. :D
Thats cool! I was wondering if gesso would work for a transfer, that or "Mod Podge" glue... That turned out nice. Im working on my small 6*6 blocks with spackle and egg shells and tissue paper. I hope they turn out good too! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah gesso works, but I think gel medium will do the job better (I'll try that later). I've no idea what "Mod Podge" glue is.. Do you show us how your results are?

What is poultry grit?
lindawittedesigns 2 years ago
Probable somthing like 'crunched shell' I think. You can use it for birds in a cage, it looks a bit like sand.

paintedskywoman 3 years ago
He he, *lol* I used to think 'poultry grit' was the perfect name for 'shell sand', ground shells for if you have a bird in a birdcage :))
How do you call that?
I'm looking forward to see what you will do with eggshell. Yes, Gary is a real creative genius influencing us all. I love that.
