  • Yes, its called surge, no blow of valve is used.

  • a blow off valve is still used, running a turbo with no blow-off would be fatal for it.

  • Well many theoretical ppl thing the turbo will get broken. And yes, turbos with Journal bearing cant handle surge that well and may worn out fast. But if you have ballbearings they can handle much more stress and surge dont effect the lifetime that much.

  • but still if id put a lot of money into a car, like im sure you probably have hehe, id want to protect it in everyway i possibly could.

  • Yes, but there is a good reason why i dont use the bow, and thats because i feel that the bow makes the spoolup after changing gears faster.

    My own experience.

  • Sorry, i meant that the bow makes spoolup slower because it lets the pressure out, and new pressure must be built up.

  • bow?? (meaning blow off wastegate?? :S ) the wastegate and the blow off valve r different things r they not? wastegate controls excess pressure and the blow-off valve dumps pressure at the end of spooling? :S:S sorry im a little confused lol

  • noyce, Compressor surge can fuck it ur runnin high psi, it just aint good for the impellar to be stopping and starting that fast, increased wear n tear i suppose.

  • I haven't seen a turbo that's fucked up because no BOV.. So as long as it works fine for me i won't buy one.

  • ive seen cracked impellars and ruined bearings from it, but everyone here in NZ loves the pounds lol, runnin stock un-strengthened engines on made shit like 24psi /: lol

    Recipe for detonation imo lol

  • Maybe its possible. Hard to tell why a impeller gets broken.

    My impeller is a billet one. Alot lighter and stronger construction. :)

  • i think its turbo's with heavier impellers that have problems with fractures, due to all the rapid speed and directional changes

  • I cant really tell, its not that much more. Think the new mods and the rebuild was like 30.000kr for the 577whp engine.

  • How many AU dollars is that? Im building a CA18, what kinda internals you running? Cams etc? How hard can you rev it?

  • The 5500aud is not for the whole setup, just to fix the broken engine.

    To build a engine like this you need atleast 18000 aud. If not even more.

  • It's fun to follow this project and the different times you've had it on the dyno.. I wonder how many gearboxes you have wrecked with so many whp ? Also, how durable is the engine with so much boost ? Would be nice with a speclist?

  • Only broke one gearbox for real, the third gear got broken. But that whas when i had like 350bhp.

    Never ever broke a gear with this much power, but i had broken bearings inside the gearbox.

    The 4th gearbox on now.

  • CA and SR box's are the same dude(different bell housing) trust me i blow em all the time now lol, the rb25 box is the one to have, easier to do than the 300zxTT box

  • Yes i know its the same boxes on s13 and s14. Why is it easier to use the rb25? You still need to modify the bellhousing on them both.

  • Yes bell housing still needs modding but but the gear leaver is closer to the hole on the RB boxs if you know what your doing:-), + how many RBs? and how many 300s?

  • What is the specs of the engine? And even more important, what kind of transmission do you have?

  • Then It will eat gears for breakfast :P The ca18det transmission is not durable at all. Ever gonna swap to a sr20det or z32 transmission? Sr20det transmission + ca18det bell house and 1-3 reinforced gears from Os Giken is not a bad plan :)

  • 2.3bar boost at 5200rpm. That is kind of good with turbo for 650-700hp.
