fantastic post! great performance, bruce's backing vocals plus bassline amazing, paul spitting razorblades and all introduced by alvin stardust's dirty uncle - 5*
I love both your videos of the Jam on Fridays. The video quality is excellent, how did you manage to obtain copies so clear from a show broadcast in 1980?
I got this off a compilation DVD from a torrent on dimeadozen. Someone had taped these performances on their VHS deck way back in the late 70's and early 80's. They held onto the tapes and eventually did a transfer onto DVD a few years ago, so it's really thanks to them. I mainly got it for the Devo performances, but The Jam is quite great and noticed the videos on youtube were of inferior quality so I decided fans could rejoice with these higher quality clips.
Thanks much for your informative and thoughtful response. I didn't realize VCRs could record with fidelity this good. At least one fan has rejoiced that you posted the Jam Fridays videos :-), the Jam played very well in them. Thanks for posting the vids.
Kept hoping I could find myself in the crowd shots, I was at this taping and still have my ticket stub, now signed by Bruce & Rick ...
Like @mrt0724 I was also at the Santa Monica Civic gig that year (March 16th 1980), I got to the Civic at 9 AM and was the very first person inside and stood front row center against the stage! Nothing better :)
@RiotNrrrdUTube wow three shows i would have given an appendage to see at the SM Civic center..The Jam, The Pretenders and David Bowie......All they have is gun shows there now.;..shame
Thanks for posting this great live performance. The Jam play this song flawlessly and it's interesting to see Weller and Foxton play guitars other than Rickenbackers.
I never knew this video existed ! What a treat . I used to really love this band . Saw them at the Santa Monica Civic , nobody sat In their chairs the whole show . Good times back then !
Brilliant...The Jam were class!

Okay, this is corny, but...I actually got tears in my eyes as I was watching this for the first time. Because it is just that good.

Holy cow! I remeber seeing this original broadcast as a teen. The video is awesome quality. Looks even beter than I remembered. Cheers!
PS The Jam are in fine form here. Weller leaving his Kinks phase & entering his Beatles phase.
