Direct injection technology was first used in the 1925 by Swedish engineer Jonas Hesselman.
Mitsubishi were the first car manufacturer to utilise direct injection in production cars in 1996.
Olden, your a L O N G way behind. It is nice to see such motors finally appear on the Australian market, but you can hardly refer to it as state-of-the-art technology.
I have driven a VE for a couple of weeks and struggled to get the claimed 900km per tank.
@privvybreath Problem is, if you want fuel economy, drive a 4cyl. BUt Aussies are too caught up with looking manly and shit. Oooh, no way im driving an astra, thats a GIRLS CAR. Give me a V6, better still give me a V8! ..then Boo hooo fuel prices are so expensive. How about a hybrid? Nah.... none of that tree hugging hippy crap for me mate! Im a MAN, ROAR!!!
@lerlo Mate, it is nothing to do with 4/6/8 cylinders, it is weight vs speed vs efficiency. Throw a 4cyl into the commodore, load it up with the missus and kids, and fuel economy would be shit. A typical 4cyl gets good fuel economy because it is plastic, small and weighs fuck all. A better way is to look at litrres/kg/km and SIDI would shit on an Astra.
@lerlo Really, at the end of the day it depends on HOW you drive a car. My Mitsi Mirage gets 5.5l per 100km, towing a little 5x3 trailer loaded up with camping gear sitting on 120 km an hour.
I agree with the aussie hang up with needing a large car to perhaps compensate for something....In my little mirage, as soon as I overtake and commodore or a falcon, they IMEDIATELY have to overtake me to prove a point I guess. It's even funnier when a bright flash occurs.....
Wish Holden was Australian owned... Wish I was super rich I would buy Holden off GM... I wonder if Holden would do better with out GM... What would the cost of Holden be anyway.. Bout AU$100 Billion?
In real-world conditions, 9.3L/100km in a 2-tonne car with a boot full of luggage, 4 or 5 passengers, a little 3-litre engine and the base model Omega's old 4-speed auto...is probably very close to impossible.
i've seen a 3.8L VY Commodore Executive with that same old 4-speed auto box do 7.5l/100km @ 100kmh on the highway. This new 3.0 SIDI sounds like a massive joke to me, thank god i'm buying a 300zx, and not a brand new commodore. Even the Z gets 10l/100km at 120km/h, and it's 20 years old!
Hey if this car as more power than the last model does that mean it will beat my 4 cylinder non turbo pulsar with 250 thou k's on the engine? Just wondering because the previous models (6 cyl) couldn't
Oh wow, Chrysler already came up with that Holden, sorry to say.. I hope your already aware of that? Holden trying to fit in with the European quality cars, pfftttttttt -_-
Absolute garbage of a commercial! all I freaking hear about with holden these days is about fuel economy! What a bunch of tards! If you want to sell a car, sell the CAR not its stupid sissy ass fuel economy crap! Obviously a typical Aussie man is not going to want fuel economy
I hear you mate, but unfortunately Holden are selling to fleet buyers and all this SIDI, LPG (I've noticed they even have an LPG badge on them) economy crap is directed towards them. If fuel costs was so important, why don't these fleet buyers just buy 4 cylinders?
Anyway it''s just physics, you can only get so much fuel economy out of a large 6 cylinder car.
Who wants to drive a damn Pirus man? u want one? Holden Volt is coming in 2011.Holden's engine tech is alittle lagging behind but that's because they have to use GM's American rubbish.
It is either "SI Direct Injection" or "SIDI" but it's *NEVER* "SIDI Direct Injection" because that is like saying "Spark Ignition Direct Injection Direct Injection". Sigh.
@tshepp89 Hey I found out what it's called, it's the "Sea Cliff Bridge" on the South Coast of NSW. I have it on my list of things to see if I go to that area
wont smaller 4 cylinder cars have better fuel economy once holden puts this "SIDI" technology INTO smaller cars, making this advert OBSOLETE and USELESS !!!
I like the Commodore but the ad is simply asking for it when she said There is something bigger than all of us, and thats why where giving the commodore this! God i could think of so many things to say after that sentence lols. No offence to anyone i do think holden is cool!
Took Holden long enough to give the car that engine. GM had it available for a long time.

@scarblade234 gm had it as long as Holden. they manufacture it for GM.

the authorities cannot get a commodore to achieve the stated economy figure, and the falcon still uses less fuel.

@robdoran287 haha, I know they have tested it and the new FG Falcon still gets better economy then the SIDI Commodore
