Sure, he fell off at the end of the season the other two years, but still had enough points amassed that he would have won the cup had it been the old way. But then again, that would put him too close to Dale, Sr. and The King. So something had to be done.
Jeff Gordon is the most talented driver to climb behind the wheel. The only thing Dale, Sr. was good at was wrecking people. Guess if you spin everyone else out, you're gonna go okay in the win category.
