  • @godless shredder. He suffered from polio whilst a child.

  • @mcutler71 Oh. I thought it might have been focal dystonia or something like that.

  • practicing this. GREAT person to model myself after. i love him!!!

  • Just Learned this by ear on guitar....it was hard as hell but the end result is what matters.....one down, four to go :)

  • @V3N0M3333 -Yes, good. One of the first pieces I learnt on the guitar as well (by ear, like yourself) - drop the lower E down to D, and it makes for a fantastic piece to build technique and musical sensibility.

If you haven't already, I would suggest you listen to Caledonio Romero's recording of it on classical guitar and try and achieve (as far as possible) his tone and phrasing.

It is a most rewarding piece, musically and technically - you couldn't have done better.

    Good luck!

  • There is one single moment when he is really out of tune, but it didn't matter to me. The emotion in this version is amazing.

  • NOT HATING the rest of this is flawless!

  • Does the sharp note at 3:06 bother anyone else?

  • @Allikatt36 No, its good note. Watch this video.

    watch?v=7oGTj7HntK0

  • I had to play this for a school recital a few years ago but this piece was just so weird that I decided to change repertoires. Bach, I totally love you man, but this piece is weird!

  • wow, perlman my idol... hehhehehee.. two thumbs up for you mr. perlman.. so inspiring that made me play my violin given to me by my mom .. i hope he is still alive.. seems hes video here was a testament that it is from an archive.. two thumbs up again , i admire you i hope we could jam somedy mr.perlman. playing with you with my violin and your violin would be such an honor.. heheheehe .. :)

  • Good thing his legs don't work because if his hands didn't then there he wouldn't be able to make the violin sound so nice.

  • favorite version of this piece right here

  • I totally agree, I salute all these people who overcome their disabilities to become a light in this world!

  • @ajaltoun123 Puts those of us with no disabilities to shame. If you listen to me on the violin, you need heavy duty ear protectors, like on the gun range.

  • @ajaltoun123 What's his disability?

  • what happened to his legs? -no offence, perlman...

  • @pyroasians He had polio as a child which left him paralysed from waist down,

  • He has absolutely no sense of line at all when he plays. Playing loudly and in tune means nothing if there is no understanding of the lines, especially from a composer as conversational as bach. It makes no sense to me. You cant play bach in a loud monotone like this. It isnt an etude, it's a piece of art.

  • @nevernateofkamal Je suis bien d'accord, cette allemande est joué comme une étude monotone; alors, il faut écouter Marie Cantagrill dans ces pièces de Bach qui sont effectivement des pièces d'art.

  • @nevernateofkamal Hey, SHUT THE FUCK UP BITCH HE'S FAMOUS AND YOU'RE NOT!

  • @ROflurmom1 so is lil wayne. so is kenny g. so is justin beiber. shall i go on?

  • @nevernateofkamal Did you not get the point dumbass?

  • @nevernateofkamal wow, just imagine if the world had more cynical douchebags like yourself. then we wouldn't have to put up with crap like perlman. we could all listen to the orchestra of critics. they'd really do justice to bach.

  • @justin10054 all i said was that he plays in a monotone. does that make me a cynic?

  • @nevernateofkamal maybe it seems more monotone cause bach tended not to write in dynamics and i played a piano piece that was very similar to this which was all mf... just thinking :P

  • @xNaN3x

shakespeare didnt write in stage directions for his plays, but that didnt mean that the actors should all stand still for the whole play. the reason he left dynamics out, from my understanding, was because he wanted to musically challenge the player to sense the melodic movement of the piece, and naturally provide dynamics that correspond. he valued a player's instincts over explicitly written dynamics. it's weird, because usually perlman has alot of dynamic depth

  • @nevernateofkamal really? well i didn't know that ... but in my piano piece he didn't write dynamics because you can't play dynamics on a harpsichord and thats what it was originally written for and i know this is violin, but maybe theres a similar reason. (also, i wish i hadn't replied cause everyone else seems to be abusing your opinion which is kind mean)

He does use rubato in this, and his phrasing is good don't you think?

  • I love Milstein's (both cycles) and to an extent Heifetz's recordings of the sonatas and partitas.

But Perlman really makes the instrument sing beautifully and effortlessly.

  • Pearlman was born with copenhagen in his blood.

  • Just Perfect.

  • I have to perform this tomorrow for a local recital... So anxious! Great video, I've been listening to it for intonation reference mainly--I love Perlman, but I think though he was feeling it in his soul, it wasn't as emotional as it should be played--making him sound slightly rushed. Fantastic all the same!

  • @likemyviolin

it doesnt matter if the vid is not the best quality. because i dont see video, i see music.

  • is he using the violin from Fallout 3?

  • Im 13 and I'm learning to play this

  • jjj

  • excelente

  • I already know what i want to hear just before die

  • Itzhak Perlman.. I love his interpretations!

  • great

  • This man is the reason I'll never be able to be a violinist.

  • I love his playing, it is intense, devine and offcourse more than outstanding.

  • Bach fucking around on a violin is more interesting than most of Beethoven and Mozart's carefully crafted symphonies. They are downright chaotic. It reminds me of the unmeasured preludes of Couperin. I still prefer Partitia 2 in Dm Sarabande, though.

  • Incomparabila interpretare! Bravo!!!

  • paul gilbert version is better!!!!!

  • @richvaca -_- shut up

  • @supertrululu1 hahahahahaha XD

  • Is that a Stradivarius Violin he's using?

  • @kigawman

is the famous Soil Stradivarius of 1714, once belonged to Yehudi Menuhin.

  • @STRAD0099 Wow! that instrument sure looks expensive to me, judging by it's maker and the quality of sound it produces.

  • i love Bach! i seriously cried watching this what a beautiful piece. i can hear all the emotion put into his music.♥

  • no matter how much i try, i play too technical and my sound is always short of emotion... how the fuck does he do it?

  • I like how when he plays bach he slows it down so the audience can take in every note

  • the best

  • beautiful beyond words can describe. absolutely flawless. itzhak perlman!!!

  • This is peace is so difficult to play like this.

    Really amazing.

  • He doesn't just hear and play the music - he -feels- it. To his soul. Simply beautiful.

  • @darkangelnj He has good filling of aesthetics and harmony. This is why his music is always so gentle and aesthetic.

Kremer is very well equipped technically but his speed is too high for such rich and emotional works like Partita No. 2. Bach composed it when he was still young, so his Sonatas and Partitas for violin carry impression of his age although they are permeated with deep phylosophy as everything what Bach composed.

  • yay he is good woo hoo!

  • PERLMAN!!! Coming to my rescue once again!!! God bless you!!

  • perlman is goddddd! of the violin! wow!

  • This piece isn't that difficult technically, but in terms of emotion and phrasing, its one of the most difficult out there, which is the difference between a little 10 year old playing this and a great like Pearlman. Bravissimo!

  • @musicdude202 YES THE PHRASING!!! GOSH!!!!!

  • como da vibrato em corda solta?

  • Não dá, o melhor que dá pra fazer é tacar a mesma nota da corda solta na corda anterior

    aí sim dá pra fazer.

  • valeu

  • hehe, não há de que.

  • bibrando la 8ª de la siguiente cuerda

  • thank you so much for posting this!....Perlman is awesome!

  • is this out on dvd?

  • any ladies and gentlemen viewers hold their instrument like this guy does ?

  • Beef. It's What's For Dinner

  • Beeth in The Beeth Oven. An' it's ready now !

  • i stumbled upon this and it made me want to start learning it. so i did!

  • Evidence the thumb does not necessarily have to hide under the neck.

  • Yes, us people with large hands don't need to keep our thumbs down there; however, if you are teaching people people with small hands, then it's necessary (or they can't reach notes with their pinky).

  • I think it's because he has large hands, but my thumb is hidden when I play. Or maybe it's just a matter of preference.

  • lol. Perlman has huge bass bands.

  • amazing.

  • though perlman is an amazing violinist, i dont really think bach is his territory...or maybe its just the quality of the recording....

  • I think that Bach is very personal, anyone can play as long as they don't go too out of bounds stylistically speaking. perlman is actually being pretty conservative here in his interpretation.

  • The vibrato on the second note! Fantastic playing throughout!

  • really? you think so? I mean his name does kinda sound familiar :)

  • Thsi is my piece right now :) I wish I could play it as well as he does.

  • Mozart didn't write a 7th violin concerto

  • I think he's pertaining to the concerto recorded by Menuhin somewhere in the 1930s. officially, mozart only did write 5.

  • one of the greatest

  • how long ago was this, anyone?

  • June, 1976, I think.

  • that was really nice..

i just wish the quality was a little better lol.. but this video must be really old.. so.. i guess its ok =)

  • It's Partita No. 2 Allemanda fromJ. S. Bach

  • I'm new to all this but what is the name of this piece???

  • great video thanks for posting...

  • Thanks for posting!

  • This man is the reason I play the violin and not the cello...

  • This man is a reason for anyone to do anything.

  • @Kurtyoungblood

    even rape children?! you monster

  • @Invisiblefiyah hahahaha, damn that was funny.

  • @tanzphangrl : Now that is not a shallow thought !

  • @tanzphangrl This man could also be the reason for someone to play the cello and not the violin. :-P

  • he's such an inspiration. i recently learning this and sarabande and perlman is amazing. i'm so excited to see him in march at carnegie hall

  • Sounds a little like the 2nd Bach Cello Suite

  • wow.

  • It is very rare to see someone playing the whole Partita in Dm live like this. Great performance, very soulful and well- articulated. Thanks for posting.

  • what happened to his legs?

  • he had polio when he was 4 years old. So he cant walk very well

  • this video should have more tags on it so it is easier to find

  • That hall is full of sound!

  • Passionate beautiful full-hearted tone in lieu of rhetorical comprehension & interpretive technique.Bach for metronomes with ears for good sound.

  • I am being nice.I'm treating him without reference to his legs.

  • I think he was joking

  • Another demented Shermanesque statement

If you can't handle that, then please crawl back into your shell and read the New York Times until your self-esteem reaches the level that it can interact with others, while not getting threatenedby ideas perhaps different from your own. Because I cannot have ownership of this video I have to destroy it.

  • This is amezing !!!!!I love this partita!!and i love I.Perlman!!!

  • thaaaaaaaaaaaaanks for posting
