  • IT IS CURIOUS THAT A YOUNG US NAVY SAILOR, MATTHEW BERGMAN, 21, WAS SUDDENLY "LOST AT SEA" IN JULY OF 2011, AS THE USS BOXER PATROLLED OFF THE COAST OF YEMEN. SAILOR BERGMAN WAS FLUENT IN ARABIC. ISN'T IT CURIOUS HE ALONE GOT "LOST", AND NO ONE SAW HIM "FALL OVERBOARD?"! WHERE'S THE INVESTIGATIONS, Dept Of Defense?

  • When the SEALS show up, you know you're screwed.

  • Why would these pirates keep roaming the waters knowing that there are American and European forces around.

  • Hooyah.

  • I agree

  • I agree we should get red of the pirates thats why I want to bein the us military.

  • dont fuck with SEALS dude

  • These niggers are useless.

  • Sad that some people have to resort to violence because of living conditions.

  • Why can't we deal with pirates the way the British Navy used to in the 1700s and 1800s?

  • what did they do in the 1700s and 1800s?

  • The same like here, and then some. The British Navy was quite ruthless when it came to hunting pirates. In other words, they weren't afraid of international pressure.

One of the USMC's first tours of duty was a raid on the Barbary Pirates' stronghold in Northern Africa, and this is remembered in the song "The Halls of Montezuma.

I think we need to do the same to these Somalian pirates...

  • im hoping to join the navy snipers this summer, fingers crossed.

  • Joining is easy.

It's as simple a signing a few papers. If you can read and write, I'd say you've got a good chance of making it.

Boot Camp and SEAL training are the hard parts.

  • im from england though...not sure im doing it now ive been told i need a good maths degree which wont happen

  • No such thing. A S.E.A.L maybe, not just a sailor. If you want to be a sniper, joint the USMC or Army

  • I will take a seal over both army and marines.

  • I will never take another cruise ship again , until I know that they have weapons to protect passengers.

  • Almost all countries justify defense of person with deadly force...Teach these assholes not to fuck around and hold people at gunpoint...

Navy Seals believe in Karma, Instant Karma...

  • If you attack or take over a ship by force and holding guns, then you should expect to be shot by others that have guns too. If you don't want to be shot, don't attack a ship holding guns.

    Good job Navy.

  • This end was unavoidable, SEALS train for years in this situations, good job.

  • @deepsofhell God bless the NAVY.

  • the tactics of the caraibean pirates was to approach a ship with loud music while the "jolly roger" (skull and bones) was raised. At that point the attacked crew could still save itself by surrender. After plundering and by while changing ships, the crew was set free. If the reaction on the "jolly roger" was none or too slow, the "bloodflag" (entirely red) was raised and a merciless battle started.

  • So anytime someone comes up to us with guns drawn we should surrender? Is that the right thing to do? That is lack of strength or any backbone. If you continue to bow, you will be left with nothing.

I will give them my gun, one bullet at a time!

  • mister bfrance, i don't understand why you are directing your answer towards my person. i just gave a historic review of piracy and not any judgemente about what happened or not. don't jump into conclusions please.

  • envanje - I am not against you. I just am pointing out that not all piracy is the same. And that what is happening in Somalia is nothing more than Muslim Terrorism. They are Muslim, and they are terrorizing people for gain.

  • They terrorize people because it's their only ways of feeding their kids. there's no work, poverty, it's all you can do because you know companies will pay. Is it right? No. But to categorize them as terrorist is just to cliche. Someone robbing you at gunpoint for your money....is that a terrorist as well?

  • Please read the Koran. It gives the Muslims the rite to hold people for ransom. They hijack people to make money and for the glory of Alla in their own words. They also do this to terrorize people to accomplish their goal of world dominated by sharia law. Anything done to terrorize people is terrorism.

  • Now as for robbing at gunpoint, some people do it to others not from their group, or race or religion to try to terrorize and intimidate. Bu everyone who robbed at gunpoint causes terror (by using a gun they want to terrorize people into doing what they want.) so they might be described as terrorists. Now when they yell 'Alla Akbar" that is giving Alla the glory.

  • "They terrorize people because it's their only ways of feeding their kids."

I wonder if you would think the same way if someone put a gun to your head calling you infidel and said they wanted money or they would kill you. (Let us not forget the threat of and reality of death.)

People have the choice to do what they do. There are no Jobs here, so I drive 120 miles to my job every week instead of making excuses and robbing and terrorizing people.

  • @bfrance2002 Good man. You are absolutely right.

  • Bur one of the greatest pirates my point of view was James Belamy. Life on board a pirateship was well regulated and social. The captain received no more than the double of the profit of a common crewmember, which is very small compared with the practices of regulated entreprises as we know them.

  • Jean Lafitte who operated out of Barataria, close to New Orleans, as far as i remember was indeed a Frenchmen.

  • three less black people. three less problems. im not white im black.

  • lmao xD

  • One more shot to your temple & that makes a nice four. Four less problems. Could you help us out with that?

  • The story of the 2009 war on piracy was best summarized by another pirate, who lived and died in the fourth century BC. He was captured and brought to Alexander the Great, who demanded to know what he meant by keeping possession of the sea. The pirate smiled and responded: What you mean by seizing the whole earth, but because I do it with a petty ship I'm called a robber while you who do it with a great fleet are called emperor.Once again, imperial fleets sail today but who is the robber

  • let me give you a de-brief on that. Fuck with us and we blow a 12 inch hole through your skull. And thats the entry point.

  • The pirates are. =P

  • So the men on the Maersk ship were the bad guys???

They were just trying to do a Job to feed their family like you and me. They were moving cargo not taking over Somalia.

If you truly believe that, then you just hate the USA and all its people. I bet if someone cam in your house trying to steel things and hurt your family, you would fight them.

  • Pirates and Privateers have hunted the weak and helpless on the high seas for centuries. It's about time the tables were turned and the pirates become the hunted. I say bravo to the Navy SEALs who took the shots and to Obama for having the guts to order the rescue.

Hunt them down at sea and find their bases on land, cut this cancer from the world. Piracy should not be casually calculated as part of the cost of doing business. Islamic privateers have a long history, Google it.

  • not only weak and helpless victims, our national flemish heroe pirate Jean Bart (may his name live forever in our memory) sunk a lot of protestant (british and dutch" war ships, and he was only armed with sword an dagger. TO HELL WITH THE PROTESTANTS (yes, that was an is our battlecry).

  • Jean Bart was a French admiral that was in a war where a blockade of France was starving the people. No one is blockading Somalia. No one is oppressing the pirates. They just kill people and steal.

Now if they want a war... they might just have gotten it.

  • Jean Bart was a flemish pirate and compatriot of mine from duinkerken or as you call it Dunquerque. Because his acts were in the interest of the king of France he was indeed promoted admiral in the french navy. but his roots were certainly flemish although nowadays that part of flanders has been taken by france.

  • FUCK THE PIRATES NOW

  • lol, i want to see pics of the three headless pirates.

they should have a "bait ship" with electrified decks cruising that area, only the guilty would fry.

  • Awesome! Great that the Captain has been saved!

I can only imagine the SEAL's setup...there were 3 pirates, did we assign 1, 2, or 3 snipers per pirate? Say 3 per pirate, 9 Navy SEALS out there with head shot or body shot sharpshoots, and, BANG, on the order they all shoot. Yeah, 3:1 snipter to pirate is a bad time for them, lol!

  • I think it was actually just three snipers, three shots. Three headshots. I can't confirm this obviously; it's just what they've said. Could be over-dramatized, I have no idea.

But what's a fact is that the Navy Seal snipers have among the most advance sniper rifles in the world. They're so accurate that even from a mile's distance a good shot won't stray more than an inch from the target.

If i remember correctly, the sniper shots came from 30 yards. 0% survival chance for the pirates.

  • I agree about their skills. But whatever happened for real will remain classified. If theu report 3 shots and 3 kills, that's how will go down in the books regardless if is was really 8 shots and 3 kills. You should know that by now. As far as SEALs kill distance yes I know these guys are the best, but look at a shooting FROM a moving vessel TO a moving vessel, that is why I postulate that there were probably more than 3 sharpshooters involved

  • Thank God! Congratulations to Captain Phillips, the commander of the Bainbridge and those fabulous Navy Seals for their heroic actions and their great victory today. Thanks to all who serve. God bless:)

  • Great job! My respect to all SEALs guys that did the mission...for sure, it was a piece of cake than a single hell´s week day! Anchors away, swabbies! You all really deserve a lot of cold ones...

  • good news this time, I hope it hurt for a bit when they shot them.

  • The talking heads discussed how Somalias local law enforcement would allow the pirates to continue to operate. They also concluded that international law would not be useful in stopping piracy.

My compliments to the Navy SEALS. They have demonstrated an extremely effective way to deal with pirates. Kill them. This discourages future piracy.

Paying ransoms makes piracy profitable and encourages future attacks.
