  • The American government did indeed agree to share information with the British on technologies to enable development if supersonic flight but they took information and didn't give any back. Probably because they didn't have any. Then subsequently paid off the British government who then immediately cancelled their development altogether.

Americans doing what they do best. Stealing ideas and buying people off

  • @nickthefox72 Source?

  • Everybody knows the Americans paid the British government off to let them break sound barrier first. The British had a PLANE that was almost perfected to do it as opposed to the rocket with wings that Chuck flew and even that was 75% British technology

  • Most men in uk suck STD from cock

  • he is my 4th cousin

  • Did Yeager have any carrier landings during hi career? I think landing on a carrier is a benchmark for a good pilot. It's evidently harder than sh*t.

  • The M.52 was never finished because the test models kept having engine failures and some high up decided to use the money elsewhere. The X-1 was being developed at the same time and it is a totally different plane. It is not a re-badged M.52. The M.52 had a more conical profile and a jet engine on the drawing board. The X-1 is rocket powered.

The King of England and the King of Germany went to France to see Wilbur Wright fly. French designers were the only competition for the US designers.

  • @280zjammer You are right off course BUT. The Bell engineers was shown the M52 project and X1 is CLEARLY influenced by that. That dosen't detract anything from the achievement. Also Yeager has several times stated that Bell invented the "flying Tailplane" that helped X1. Wrong again. That was developed in UK (by Miles) before ww2. I have seen pics of the testplane that flew sucessfully.

  • Chuck Yeager was an outstanding pilot. Nothing can detract from his pioneering & gutsy achievement. But a niggle; neither Germany nor the UK was in this 'race'. Germany was out of the aviation business, & the UK (Miles Aircraft) project was turned down by the government, probably bewcoz it was broke after WWII. If there was a Canadian precursor, what about a vid? OGT

  • Why do the schools in the US teach the kids that US was the first to break the sound barrier? The US was not the first, It was Canada in North Bay Ontario. The US had the Canadian government close the program down after the sound barrier was accomplished, and bought the people who worked on it. Teach the truth and not lies. It's documented fact read it. Next your going to tell me it was an American who invented baskball.

  • @daverae2011

The sound barrier was officially broken on October 14th, 1947 by Captain Charles "Chuck" Yeager. You canucks always have such a little penis envy when it comes to inventions and discoveries. Next you are going to tell me you invented the first aircarft and not the Wright Brothers.

  • @daverae2011 The United States Bell X-1 was the first manned flight to break the sound barrier. US schools have taught correctly.

  • Would have been impossible for the usa to break the sound barrier if Britain didn't share vital information with the usa!!!!!

  • @MrIHateAmerica Yeah? Well then why weren't the Brits able to use that information to break the sound barrier yourselves?

  • @AngrySwampManStudios Beacuse we needed vital information on the usproject, our goverments made a DEAL to share the info but as soon as the usa got want they wanted you fucked us over!!!!!

  • @MrIHateAmerica U gonna cry?

  • @AngrySwampManStudios Nope, but im gonna celebrate all them SEALS being killed the other day and 9/11

  • @MrIHateAmerica I'll celebrate the fact that the U.S. is still faster than the Brits, and while i'm at it snicker about the queen's death

  • @AngrySwampManStudios Faster at dieing in afghan? agree with ya there!... I'll laugh at the queens death aswell, in fact ill laugh at the entire royal family's death!

  • @MrIHateAmerica The Americans are doing more killing in Aphgantistan than dying, just as you would expect.

  • @AngrySwampManStudios I would expect that form anyone

  • @MrIHateAmerica I would expect America to put anyone on the run.

  • @Freeleacher spot on, we got properly backstabbed with the technology share deal. Mind you, we got our own back when we fooled the US into beleiving we had the Hbomb when in fact it was a just massive fission bomb so they grudgingly gave up the info they had on tritium weapons.

Interestingly, In an interview in a tv documentary that came out nearly 20 years ago, one of the original test pilots of the Miles M52 said that he noticed the start of a shockwave condensation cone on his fastest run.

  • The British had been working on his for at least 10 years before Chuck Yeagar did. They based his aircraft on A British Aircraft which used the moving tail and wing fins that Yeager used. And we were supposed to "exchange" our knowledge on Breaking the speed of sound with what the Americans "knew. And they stole our ideas. Still, British aviation is better than American. We had the Lightning, Vulcan and Harrier and the spitfire! fuck yeaah!

  • I'm sitting back and enjoying the fight back on page 2.

  • Chuck Yeager was one of the greatest aviation heros.

  • The X1 only "won out" because the british government decided that post war spending on their development was wastefull and duely handed over designs and information, the X1 design is actually based on the british design

  • They mean Chuck Norris not Yeager

  • Norway, I will keep your secret and America, Pride can be felt just as great with your mouth shut.

It is not what goes into a mans mouth that defiles him, its what comes out.

both of you shut up or I will kick both your asses.

  • Hey British folks, relax, the Americans are living in hell anyways, don't envy them.

  • @SvalbardJanMayen1976 thats why we whooped yalls asses twice you limie twat

  • @landmark425 Uhh, I'm Norwegian. You never "whooped" our asses at any time you stupid fucking American, I don't care what George Bush told you.

  • @SvalbardJanMayen1976 Bush??? when the fuck did i mention him??? dude if it wasnt for us You would be speaking german and your mom would be sucking Hitlers dick right now

  • @landmark425 unlike stupid fucking Americans like you, I DO speak German, and French, and English, and Spanish, and a couple of others you've never heard of. How is your winter going fat man? How is your collapsed economy? Getting cold now? HAHA living in a tent city like you do much get cold at night, at least you can burn dollar bills for heat because they're not worth anything more than flammable paper. The rest of the world HATES you, because you've destroyed a good nation.Rot in hell fatty!

  • @SvalbardJanMayen1976 Never heard of. Ive lived in Europe for 9 years now. Italy for 5, Spain for 2 and now Germany for 2. Ive visited every country in Europe except for Eastern Europe and Northern. Before you make assumptions why don't you think a little. Its been almost 2 months since my last post and i can see you have nothing better to do than to hate on someone you have no clue about. Please man if you want to go economical then by all means we can. Just support your claims before speaking!

  • @landmark425 fuck off American, you know nothing about Europe and it's people, only that "we would all be speaking German if not for us" and all that shite. Seriously, it must suck to live in a crumbling, hated, "thars uh nigra Pres-e-dent!" empire. U refer to me as a limie? A Norwegian? It's spelled LIMEY you fucking fat ignorant cunt, Jesus, you need a European to correct YOUR English? That's fucking sad man, just fucking sad when a Chuck Yeager fan can't even use profanity correctly!!!!!!

  • @SvalbardJanMayen1976

Dude, can you kindly Shut the fuck up with your god damn steriotypical comments, I dont care what you think about America, go rant somewhere else, go rant to other people because most poeple dont give a shit about what you think.

  • @galatasarayfan67 as soon as you can spell your last statement in correct English, I promise I will Fatty.

  • @SvalbardJanMayen1976

Oh big deal if I spelt a couple of words wrong, Im not attending for Harvard or anything and if you really hate American that much, than get of the computer, your goddamn operating system is American, if its Windows, Mac or even Linux, all American hell, YOUTUBE is American.

You are calling all Americans ignorant while you fail to relise your steriotypical comments are ignorant. Now go get drunk with the old people in your lonely ass town.

Like you guys got anything better

  • @galatasarayfan67 hell ya

  • @landmark425 Ahh the american patriot, ignorance really is bliss.

america never really faught against hitler, he faught mainly against japan.

  • britain had its ideas stolen by yanks, they would have never done it if it werent for british engineers

  • Just for some information, The wright brothers are credited for making the 1st powered flight, fair enough, but just to add fuel to the fire regarding the Wright Bros/ Santos-Dumont debate there was a 3rd who is recorded as making a flight on 31 March 1903 by a Richard Pearse of Timaru, New Zealand (the Wright Bros 1st flew 17th December 1903), Pearse made a powered take off but the engine he used wasnt powerful enough to make enough speed for total control of his aircraft

  • I read that the roll performed @ 1:45 nearly killed him due to the design of the fuel tanks, apparently there weren't designed to go upside down and the aircraft nearly exploded. Woulda been a pitty, go Chuck you the man

  • You also have to remember the yanks stole a lot of our engineers after the miles 52 and the TRS-2 debakle!

  • I think it's funny how now, a lot of these things are viewed as being routine. There's a lot of videos of airplanes breaking the sound barrier. Shepard's spaceflight in 1961 was fraught with concern, whereas now they carry infinitely more complex machines up to the ISS.

  • In all fairness, you deserved to have it stolen. Your military is pathetic, your industry can't even build a proper automobile or anything for that matter, your food sucks, your soccer teams get beat by shit teams from 3rd world nations, and your men have a peculiar fetish for wearing womens knickers. We keep hoping you aspire to something more than good tea.

  • @DBLCC Womens Knickers?...God, have we become that Americanised?

  • @DBLCC stole we gave it to. You yanks are to dumb to be able to steal top secrt plans. Your one of those fat yanks that has a blonde died mullet that sitts around in front of your comp all day with a bean staind i love U.S.A tshirt am i wright . Bet your shouting at the screan he cant say that to me im an americunt citizen

  • Hey Ridley, you got any beemans?

  • God Bless the man..........

  • I don't think it would be possible to give these pilots the amount of respect that they deserve.

    Hat's Off to ya

  • Still the greatest pilot who ever lived!... GO AIR FORCE!!!

  • yeah, every country has a story for being the first to do achievements, but how can we believe them?this stuff is just rumors.

  • incredible !

    captain D,s

just sat next to greatest pilot ever

    nov. 16 , 2009

  • wow, just think how fast airplanes are now

  • Joe kitinger is a fucking legend, he parachuted from space breaking the sound barrier now thats a brave man.

  • Never forget the 4 main factors in aircraft manufacturing, Thrust, Lift, Drag and POLITICS.

  • Also the general consensus amongst aircraft manufacturers at the time was that supersonic flight would be achieved more easily with swept wing technology, Hence why Miles sold themselves out. But swept wing was a technology that the USA had not developed at the time and humans and patriots and politicians being what they are refused to accept the others sides opinions, all in all a huge thumbs up for chuck and bell for seeing this project through

  • as i understand it the US bought straightwing supersonic technology from Miles Aircraft in the UK

  • thats true ..

  • Ask Chuck about when he strafed unarmed civilians and animals in Europe, pretty much a US policy, very gallant.

  • Yea but they were only Europeans so who gives a sh*t.

  • Obviously only educated people, that excludes ignats like yourself who just spew BS here, grow up . Canada??? Give me a break, u don't even count.

  • i suppose you also believe the Mcdonnel douglas AV8B is a US invention?

  • im reading his bio

  • my last name is yeaager i don't know if we are related though but still

  • boy its funny i am related to the wright bros and i live in west virginia and chuck yeager is from wv

  • Hey R3VIVER, there's no need to be rude about the Americans. Who broke the sound barrier on land? What Thrust SSC managed was to my mind a much more impressive achievement...

  • the americans got the technogoly for sound barrier from the briitish

they made an agreement with the brittish but the basterds did not hold their side of the deal fucking basterds once again the british made it possible but america gets the glory

  • could have put it better myself my man!

  • What technology are you referring to anyway ? Can you post a link , or give us the name of a scientist that had something to do with it ?

  • yes my great grandfather!

  • Yeager mentions half the engineers thinking supersonic flight was impossible.

Obviously British Miles engineers did not think so, nor Supersonic interceptor designer Alexander Lippisch and the German engineers who had conducted tests in the numerous German supersonic windtunnels such as the Kochel Kanal which were later captured and reassembled in the USA. And new ones built in the us from german plans and supervised by their scientists like Herman Kurzweg, Richard Lehnert, Gerhard Eber et al

  • The X1 was the first to break the sound barrier just as truthfully as the vs-300 was the first helicopter flying in 1940.

Better check the history books against this footage.

     watch?v=64fgG2CnHn0

Then read about Heini Dittmar and Hans Guido Mütke

  • The only witnesses of the Wright brothers flight were themselves. The world knows that the first airplane to fly was made by the brazilian Alberto Santos Dummont on France. On the centanary of his first flight, they flew the 14-bis again on France, while on the centenary of the Wright brothers flight, they tried to fly the Kittyhawk and ended stuck in the mud. I love America, but lets give credit for the real inventors. Americans like to think that they invented everything.

  • my last name is yeager hehe yayy.

  • As a Heinkel fan I have learned that Ernst Heinkel was never a Nazi, and so lost a lot of work and favor. Near end of WW2 he was desparate that his factories would fall into US, not USSR hands. They did, but we stole everything of use, destroyed the rest, and tortured him in custody for many months. Finally, with a low opinion of us, we handed him over to the UK who treated him well and helped him to get his facotries running again, making scooters and bubblecars. UK also helped VW re-start.

  • Denis Bancroft invented the all-flying tail for the M52. When our govt realised that UK was about to break sound barrier, we forced UK govt to close Miles and send M52 to Bell. We did not "steal", but we DID bully. They owed us hundreds of billions of dollars for our part in WW1 and WW2. UK was forced to give us all their best tech. We DID steal hugely from the Germans, and so became great. I wish more Americans were great enough to learn history and respect other nation's achievements.

  • again i feel compelled to remind you that many of your ancestors were in fact british, mainly religious nutjobs and bankrupt middleclass types who were unwanted by us

  • first American to break sound barrier in a British supplied design. says it all

  • Comment removed

  • @1welshwarrior

LOL @ "British supplied design"......the Bell X-1 was an entirely American project. But keep dreaming.

  • @TheJomogogo u need to do some research mate cos you are completely wrong

  • first american to break sound barrier in a brittish supplied design. Germans did it in 1941 but it suits the usa for that to remain unofficial

  • they always claim everything

  • the sound barrier has been broken many times by people before 1941, a whip known as the Bullwhip is capable of it, when in the right hands it could make a tiny sonic boom

  • You're an idiot.

They're talking about in an aircraft.

  • yes and i'm just stating that this wasn't humanities first time breaking the sound barrier

  • Your a fukin retard pal.

  • look it up if you think i'm wrong. but hey it may be the first time that humans have broken the sound barrier with a machine but certainly not in history

  • I met Chuck Yeager and his lovely wife Victoria last night at a Christmas party in the West Virginia Governor's Mansion. It was a great honor.

  • i agree completley and yet some americans seem to claim they are better than other countries coz they broke the barreier first, they always forget to mention that many of the crucial ideas were ones that they stole from the british. it's a simple fact that british people have invented all most everything- it's what we are good at, like italians and food, new zealand at rugby and japanese with gadgets

  • chuck yaeger broke the sound barrier in a plane that was designed by the miles company and stolen by the US government when they realised we would beat them to the sound barrier, the all moving tail was a british design stolen by yanks, we even had a jet engine capable of taking the m52 supersonic, stupid yanks had to use a rocket, the only thing american about this farce is the pilot, even NASA owes its existence to german engineers,no american engineers clever enough

  • 'bigchiefmingingbolok'.. another anti-U.S. Angowretch with a monomania for ridiculing Americans, while denying them credit for anything. Reminds me of a Russian who once claimed Shakespeare as one of their own!

It's ok, chief, the 'stupid yanks' understand that losing empire must have been a terribly wrenching experience for some Brits. Lol

  • "empire" who gives a fuck about that? i was making a statement about the fact that without the british, yager would not have been the first to break the sound barrier (officially), a fact that most americans deny, or do not even know about, if you research from non-american history, you'll find that the british were months ahead of the americans, US pressure meant that all technology had to be passed over and our project scrapped, just so the US didn't look stupid on the world stage.

  • 'bigchiefmingingbolok'

I have no interest in your 'facts'. My point is that you seem driven to prove the British provenance of defacto American achievements, with intent to ridicule - a mindset that betrays a sense of insecurity, and perhaps inferiority. Whatever, I don't care. America, in my view, is the greatest nation conceived by man, and I will support her against the growing onslaught of hostility and ignorant commentary.

    Have a nice day, mate.

  • @bigchiefmingingbolok: Yeah sadly that's what the US is all about. Stealing and taking things from you.

  • @bigchiefmingingbolok mind you, they did help the financial situation. I dont know if britain would have had the resources to pull an operation like that and as for the german scientists, well they would have been left tinkering in some broken down lab in bavaria achieving nothing if the usa hadnt employed them. But youre right, the brains werent american.

  • @bigchiefmingingbolok LOl..what garbage your Brits will believe rather than face the facts. Bell was working on their design before they had even heard of the m52. The m52 was cancelled by the Brits who stated that it wouldn't work and that the sopund barrier woudn't be brokem for at least another 10 years. Besides the Brits were broke and relying on loans from the US to feed their people. How can they engage in expensive aeronautic research when they can't feed their people?

  • @sortie9, where do you get your facts, hang on, wikipedia???? sadly for you, you are wrong

  • @bigchiefmingingbolok I get my facts from history..not from idiots comments on these forums. It's established fact when the m52 was cancelled. It's also established fact when Bell began work on the X1. What is sad is seeing you Brits trying to salvage some pride after being reduced to a 2nd rate..wait..with the recent cutbacks.. make that 3rd rate military power. Don't let it worry you though. Military power is wasted on those without the will to wield it. That would be you guys ;)

  • @sortie9 shut it you fat yank, dennis bancroft invented the all-flying tail, and you lot stole it: end of story, next thing that will come out of your "super size"mouth is that the usa invented the harrier jump jet,jog on hahahaha........

  • @stylinggg You are the loudmothed know nothing and you prove it every time you open your mouth fat ,pimply, snaggle toothed ,limey.

If you weren't such a dolt you would know that when the X-1 broke the sound barrier it wasn't even using an all-flying tail. That came later. Yeager used a mechanical assist to help gain some elevator authority. BTW the Harrier wasn't the first VTOL aircraft. The US built several prototypes prior to the Harrier. The US did improve the Harrier significantly though

  • @sortie9 i spat my "fish and chips" (another great british invention) out when i read your post hahaha: fat, pimply, snaggle toothed, limey!!! arrr " jim lad" pmsl.

next thing you will say is that the wright brothers made the first powered flight,

and that you invented jet propulsion. if it was not for Sir Frank Whittle (great british name) your x-1 would still have the flintstones trying to fly it,hahaha.

concodre another great british invention,so jog on to mcdonalds and supersize yourself.

  • @stylinggg I don't need to make spurious claims to try and prop up a faltering sense of nationalism because I don't reside in a 2rd rate country with a 3rd rate military. The Wright brothers perfected the flight control system that allowed the first practical flying machine. Whittle did do some of the earliest work on jet engines however the Germans and later the US improved and went beyond his early contributions. Pardon me, but your inferiority complex is showing.

  • @sortie9 i do apologize did not realise you suffered from mental illness must be all that inbreeding, you redneck.our 3rd rate military have saved your arse on more than one occasion, not bad for a small island, and we gave you back 13 states, you managed to screw that up,hahaha, should have been one small step for america one giant thanks to germany,by the way try and get your mother to was your ears out, next time you bath together,as i don't think you hear to good, you inbread fat, usless twat :)

  • @stylinggg Lol..the truth hurts doesn't it? Can you perhaps point to one occasion when your 3rd rate military has saved the USs ass? I cannot seem to recall that.

Maybe you are confused about the 31 billion dollars worth (1945 dollars) of lend/lease that the US sent to you during WWII or the loans (on exceedingly generous terms) following the war that allowed your grandparents to have something to eat...perhaps you have the direction of flow confused?

Read some history you might enjoy it.

  • Santos Dummond was the first, not the Wright brothers...

  • The Wright brothers had the first aircraft in the sense we know it today: powered, controlled and sustained flight.

If you consider Alberto Santos-Dumont's invention to be proper flight, you must also allow several other inventors prior to him, back at least as far as 1890.

History considers the Wright brothers the inventors of the aeroplane because theirs was the first to fit all the criteria we look for in aircraft.

  • Santos Dummond thats create the 1º plane in the world, u bastards.

  • i did a science project on the person that made the x1 and x15 and one of his students made the dc 1 2 and 3

  • I think I told someone this before. Its a fact that the american gov had british secrets to do with the sound barrier. after they were given them they refused to allow British scientists access. Obviously Some goverments like boasting but never tell the whole truth.

  • you are correct

  • JacksterLark is a fuckin idiot!!! You don't time travel when you break the sound barrier!! The speed of sound in a viscous medium is a well documented fact, with its own governing equation. a = (gamma.R.T)^0.5

What kind of scientist are you if you haven't taken basic physics for engineers? You don't even deserve to comment on this page....JACKASS

  • If you went across the mojave desert at the speed of 600 miles per our you would land in two minutes. I f you did at 753 miles per our you would be there in -3 minutes. You would land before you took off and then screw up meons and destroy time

  • a muon isan elementary particle with a negative charge and a half-life of 2 microsecond; decays to electron and neutrino and antineutrino okay one man can't destroy everyone of them.

  • You must have studied science with Elmo Fudd, you stupid moron. You can't even construct a simple sentence.

  • lol, u mean elmer fudd but still lol

  • another thing is If he did that it must have been in space. it blow up on earth. in space it wouldn't what a shit load of fuck. its o fucking hoax. im a scientest i studied it AND ITS A FUCKING HOAX!

  • chuck yeager never broke the barrier its just a hoax if he did that that is time traveling and it would of destroyed time. and they woul'nt have that technology at the time. i saw a real picture of it and it said Nasa. What the fuck. thats impossible i mean its fake. it said it wuz a car. now a plane. it wuz a fucking rocket for god sakes fuck him!

  • Thanks for sharing some great History of a great Air Force General. Chuck Yeager will always be the best Fighter Pilot in History, and the first Recorded to break the Sound Barrier.

Thanks for the original footage. You can see him break the sound barrier with the actor playing him in the Movie The Right Stuff.

  • Thak God for ol' Chuckie Yeager!

  • he never broke the sound barrier its impossible!

  • first person to offically break the barrier, not the first but the first recorded :)

  • Chuck is the greatest pilot ever and he's Air Force, not navy. Read his super book, "Yeager:An Autobiography" still sold in contemporary book stores like Barnes and Noble, etc.

  • He was / is a good a pilot..maybe the best..but okay...he is a special kind of bloge...I like him therefore I will do keep it behind the true story...Glennis was and is his driving engine

  • I liked your biographies. good stuff.

  • Yup, General Chuck Yager, you're one of a kind.

  • Yeager, my hero...

  • im doing my boigraphy on him ^^ lol
