Mark Knopfler Local Hero Wild Theme, Montserrat ´97, its the best one I have ever seen, his tone is amazing, and I have not seen anybody on youtube come close to getting it, it's different from his original, and its totally awsome, copying that would take a life time, as it took him a lifetime to get thier

again 2.50 is the best tone and note I have heard in a long long time, I could listing to that over and over again, can U incorporate more of that tone into another version, it sounds like a Spanish guitar, which knopfler favors I know

2.50 was a proper sweet note like, proper sweet, not sure it is in the original, but it sounded better if U ask me, and I have been listening to knopfler since 1982 when I was 6, my dad loved him and it rubbed off on me, I remember new years eve 1985 when they stuck live aid on the tele, great memory's man, I say knofler play that year live, was to young to feel the full effect of his guitar skills

That is totally perfect, a lot of people try to play it on here and get it totally wrong, U on the the hand pretty much nailed it, if that song is played just slightly wrong it sounds like junk, but that was perfection.

Thank you for so nice comment. I played the song by ear, without tabs. I do it with all songs, since tabs can't be found easily, and when they exist they are mostly inaccurate. I'd use them only if MK himself wrote them ;)

Man that was lovely, your tone and technique superb. Really well done. My ONLY constructive critcism would be that for you now playing over the track is affecting the 'flow' and doesn't allow you to 'feel' your way through the song as much. In short, time to play live with a good band! You're good enough to play proper lead without the backing. Also, watch the vibrato SLIGHTLY too much in places. Other than that, WONDERFUL. And I've listened to this song, A LOT! :)

Thanks for a very constructive comment. Unfortunately, I have neither time nor will to play live, I have a daytime job and this pretty much gets all my free time. After that, I have no desire to go around and play :( I was searching for a band few years ago but couldn't find any that suits me. They mostly play folk music, which I don't like at all. But that's pretty much the only genre with which you can earn some money here in Croatia. A shame, really.

Tips for those wanting that sound,

1. Use your fingers

2. Use the tape reverb or echo effect

3. Have texas specials and have the switch only in the first three positions (Neck, neck + middle, middle)

Pretty much correct, except for 2 (I was not using any echo effect, only the reverb built-in into the amp). I would also add that a good quality tube amp is a must.

The echo is actually the type of reverb that knopfler used in most his performances. I tried it the other day, the difference was astounding. you could also call it delay reverb.

No, only pickups. Note that they won't help much unless you have adjusted their height correctly! You should also have a good tube amp, with correct settings. Playing style counts as well.
