@zajefajnyon Były różne systemy kodowania (d2-mac, nagravision, videocrypt, videocrypt II itd.). Każdy system wymagał osobnego dekodera i osobnych kart :) Większości kanałów kodowanych w videocrypcie nie dało się w Polsce legalnie oglądać i szukało się pirackich sposobów :-)

@playaOS Nie ma kanałów VIVA i VIVA Zwei bo to nie ten satelita :) VIVA była na Eutelsacie, a to są kanały z Astry...

@thelyniezian QVC did eventually go FTA. I got analogue satellite in August 1997 and it was in the clear by that stage.

Still using my nokia analogue satelite box. I can still get CNN, Eurosport (in english!) and all the main german channels. Great for watching free live boxing and footy on ZDF or RTL. Some of which is PPV in the UK!. thank god germans are tight bastards and many still refuse to pay for sports coverage. I will "upgrade" to a digital box when they phase out the trusty analogue services

I have some bad news for analogue fans, german satellite tv in PAL clear is to be phased out by 2012!!! So no more analogue at 19.2degE.

Which part of Europe are you watching from, it's a very weak astra signal! Shame Astra analogue isn't still up and running, you're either using too small a dish size, less than 60cm ie a Technisat satennae

47cm would be the culprit or you're out the main central part of the footprint ie southern or eastern europe necessitating a bigger dish size to be used. A large dish properly set up and aligned of at least 80cm or more depending on footprint and location would easy solved that.

It is still running from the Astra 1 fleet, I even have a 2009 channel surfing video on my channel.

But a lot of it on analogue PAL via astra 1 at 19.2degE is in german and some other european languages mainly. A lot of english language channels have migrated to 28.2degE/28.5degE on the Astra2 and Eurobird1 satellites to serve the UK and irish markets.

Yes but the system can still be used for German tv stations and is still used which is what I was saying. It's surprising that 20 year old tech is still in use today and widely used here in germany.

There are still (2009) about 40 analogue channels on 19.2E, most of them german

Ah, I remember the Astra promo channel... I remember the fun of listening to TV channels to work out what was on when our subscription didn't include some of the channels :D

Then I found out that my neighbour downloaded encryption codes and had an RS232 CAM which he used to get free Sky, I was so jealous!

I wish we could still get all these foreign channels on Sky Digital. Even if you couldn't understand what they were saying it was still fun to watch.
