  • I just bought this pedal, and what a crock of crap it is. The box said 'Highly responsive with delicious tone.' That's a lie. It's harsh, and the tone control even fails to suppress the sharp treble peaks. It's the worst distortion/fuzz pedal I've come across. Then, just a few minutes ago the distortion stopped and it turned into a slight treble booster. Faulty!! I'm going to get a refund.

A word of advice to everyone - unless you want to sound like a cheapskate, give this crap pedal a miss.

  • @CrankCase08 Agreed, not a good pedal. This video was for an ebay sale, so I catered to the market a little in my "review". Discerning players with good ears will probably go for something else. Thanks for watching!

  • @bgmathews After some research I've found that integrated circuits make for poor distortion effects, and this pedal is full of them - I checked when I discovered it had a dry joint. I got my refund without any problems. I do not understand why manufacturers insist on filling distortion pedals with integrated circuits when a couple of transistors (one overloading the other) does the job cheaper and better.

  • @CrankCase08 Yep. I don't know much about the components yet, but this in one of the most "digitized" pedals I've ever heard.

  • @CrankCase08 you should tell that to the guys in Mogwai . . . those "cheapskates" love that"crap" pedal

  • the only thing i use it for is to play along GnR appettite for destruction. this is the only pedal that gets that sound by itself

  • not bad for the price =D

  • I'm thinking about buying this pedal for my yamaha Pacifica 112v but I don't know much about distortion pedals how do u connect it to the guitar and/or amp and do u need to buy a seperatite battery charger or does it get the power from the wall?

  • @mattbo12 All you need is two guitar cables, a 9 volt battery, and some common sense, and you'll be able to figure it out! Sometimes pedals come with power supplies when you buy them. That's a plus because batteries drain fast. Thanks for watching!

  • this is the first pedal i ever got, it was a gift when i started learning. later when i got into tube amps i sort of abandoned it. i got some more "traditional" pedals like a rat and big muff, but now i REALLY wish i could find this fab tone! i don't know where the hell i put it! and i feel like i got sounds out of it that none of these other more well known pedals get.

the basic eq is a big help and the fact that it's a distortion pedal with essentially a fuzz knob is huge for me.

  • whats the best for a metallica sound

  • he looks like autin power jaaaa

  • they look puny in pictures and when you see them in person its kinda strange to find out how big it is

  • god i love that guitar sadly 1. i have no money. 2 im left handed lol

  • what kind of guitar is it?

  • gO Weezer

  • This pedal sounds like crap. fulltone fulldrive 2

Fulltone GT-500 GT500 Overdrive Distortion Pedal

Ibanez TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer Overdrive Pedal

MXR Custom Shop GT-OD Overdrive Pedal

    Fulltone OCD V4

Try one of these... hah... Danelectro...

  • Thanks for the feedback. I agree that this pedal is not good for general purpose distortion. As I've repeatedly mentioned to other users, this pedal has a very specific sound, and I would not use it on a regular basis. I posted this video to help me sell it, which I did. I've always prefered a TS-9 or a Rat. I'd be interested to hear the Fulltone pedals. Maybe you could make a demo video for those?

  • well danectors are geneerally for peopel with MUCH less cash to spend ont hsi stuff... like me =\ but you can get soem good sounds if you juice it REAAAAL good ~.^

  • does anyone recommend this for a weezer sounding tone?? pleaase reply if u do

  • Weezer's sound comes more from their amplifiers than the pedals, although Brian has been known to use an Ibanez TS-9, and I believe Rivers has frequently used a Boss DS-2.

  • okay. well i have this 250 watt line 6 which has terrible distroion. so im looking for something to level it up and sound somewhat like weezer

  • I see. It's probably a solid state amp, right? In my opinion you're better off getting the Boss DS-2 for now. Down the road, when you upgrade to a tube amp, you'll notice that the amp is all you really need for a great overdrive sound. If you go to guitargeek . com and browse the top 100 rigs, you'll see what all the most famous guitar players use.

  • haha no the sad part is that it is a tube amp.. but ill look up using a DS-2 thanks

  • Oh, that's cool. Which one is it? I had no idea they made amps that powerful.

  • Yeah the DS-2's are great. I know Rivers uses one, John Frusciante of RHCP uses one, and also Kobain used one. They're good

  • how much was that pedal?

  • is that a gibson?

  • Gibson Blueshawk, kinda hard to find these days. Discontinued in 2006. Definitely my favorite.

  • I HAVE 2

  • do u recommend this pedal over the Boss ds1 ?

since its almost the same thing

  • I definitely recommend the DS-1 over this, but it depends on what you're looking for. This pedal has a very particular sound, and it's not versatile at all. The Fab Tone has no "zero" setting. In other words, you can't turn it way down and get just a tiny bit of crunch the way you can with other distortion pedals. This one is either full-on or full-off, and the "fab" knob only increases the amount of fuzzy, "treble-y" distortion. The DS-1 can go anywhere from subtle boost to full-on crank.

  • nice. you should demo that thing for gearwire. their review sucked. like all their reviews. Just talking about what papers comes with the box and they play the pedal for 10 sec with unbelieveble sloppy teqnuique.

  • I've been wanting to post some vids but my camcorder's acting up, might have to go with audio clips w/slides.

  • I must confess though - I finally pulled the Blues 90s and put in Lindy Fralin soapbars. Made a nice guitar incredible. The bridge is more or less a vintage-style P90, a bit more refined. The neck is 15% underwound so it has clarity AND balls. Best of all, the Varitone now has some real meat to chew into and it's like 10x as effective.

I just felt the Blues 90s overlapped into the territory my Strat & Tele already covered. It's more work to change pups in a B-Hawk though, all that circuitry.

  • That would sound awesome. Do you have any sound samples you could send me? Someday I'd like to pick up another BH and try that. I've heard of several people doing similar things, like adding mini-humbuckers or TV Jones type pickups. I agree with the overlapping of tones a little bit, but at the same time it also fills some unique middle ground that the Les Paul Special and the Jazzmaster just don't cover.

  • Aren't Bluehawks just the coolest?? I've got a red one like this, it's the best thing Gibson's done in 50 years....so what do they do? - discontinue it, like the idiots they are. Can't have an $800 guitar outshining their $2800 Les Pauls, now can we?

  • No kidding - I can't believe how many killer guitars they've discontinued over the years. The Blueshawk is by far my favorite. I've been through so many other guitars over the years none of them compare.

  • semi hollow gibson guitar nice tuning
