I had some neck dive too. I replaced the chrome key knobs with plastic banjo ones on the headstock. less counter weight will reduce haft the dive. . after that trick, I then got a fender vintage style guitar strap and guess what,.. no more problems. Gibson made the first violin shaped electric bass guitar years before Hofner did. called the EB1 in 1953 which had banjo knobs on it .
As you point out, what I hate about these basses is the neck dive. I have a nearly 50 year old Hofner copy cat bass. Really cool but it's a hassle to play because you must actually use some of your body mechanics to hold the instrument in place.
Yes I believe you haven't tried using a real leather strap, because if you did you wouldn't be having this problem. Pleather and polyester are not leather, leather grips to your shirt and eliminates neck dive, I know because I use a leather strap to hold up my V bass. So either your shoulders are grotesquely unaligned or your not using a real leather. Plain and simple.
You think I don't know the difference between real and fake leather? I have a $75 dollar Levy's strap that is yes, REAL leather and suede to boot.. And besides as I said, my bass is not a Hofner, it's different. It is a violin shape but much bigger. The headstock is huge and the tuners are heavy. The bass neck dives no matter what kind of strap you use.
Ten Years After!!! YES!!! I have that bass to, although im in the process of selling it, i loved it untill i moved on to a Yamaha BB3000AF fretless, ahhh, pretty good video though man

they are quite nice. I tried one out and I enjoyed the feel of the violin shape. however I do belive it is a little overpriced. If you are into the beatles maybe try a Rogue Violin bass or a knock off hofner. But the epiphone is quite nice though.
Slapping is not so easy. The body is hollow and therefore not as stable as a normal solid one. At my Höfner 1965 Violin 500/1 it's not working properly.
This is true, but that's not to say that it can't be done. The Viola is my bass of choice (at least for now), and I can safely say that slapping is still possible, but it does take some getting used to.
well the bass isn't suppose to be bright in tone. the hollow body gives it a rich warm sound, so the bass and low mid frequencies are emphasized more than the high mids and treble.
gibson are rip off, who gives a shit where epiphones are made. epiphone produce great sound for there moneys worth and look great, maybe noy this bass because its shit but take a look at the epiphone casino its looks and sounds awesome and is worth a less than half most gibson guitars
you got a point there....most gibsons suck, especially basses, but epiphone thunderbird for example...the epiphone version is true crap compared to the gibson.
the gibson version sounds better, looks better and is lighter, with a better balance.
Anyway, I agree that gibsons are a fucking ripoff, and I wouldn't buy one anyway xD
I just bought this bass and it is awesome. The only complaint I have is the slight slide sound that happens when you change notes sometimes. That and the first one I got buzzed on certain frets. But I traded it in for a different one and it sounds great.
I really wanna get one o'those but i'm really thinking bout it cuz on EEEVERY video on youtube about em, a beatles song is being played always with that acoustic kinda sound. the thing is: is that bass really versatile? i mean could it sound a bit more like "metallic" or "jazzy"?
Heck YES! Play it through a BP80 amp modeler or POD. You can make it sound like an Explorer if you have the WATTs. Also strings can give you versatility...flats, rounds, tapewounds - the possibilities are endless, treble up with fuzz, dirty down with buggers'n slime!!!
An amp modeler will make anything sound like anything except itself. Amp modelers are worthless. I don't have any experience with the bass though, lol.
How does that make sense - of course they sound like something else. That's the whole idea. That's like saying you only believe in one color. You belong in a hillbilly bluegrass band. Woops, they have different sounding instruments....hahahahaha
The bass will NOT sound versatile, it's a hollowbody hence the "acoustic" sound. I have 1 & only use it if I want that sound & that's only for recording. It's cool if you get it cheap, mine was free, the best price.
Thats my exact bass, I also have an "Lawsuit Copy" SG Bass. I can't remember its maker though.... Heh, i've been using my Viola enough to forget my old one.
AMEN MAN I love those viola basses. they look so awesome. I wanna get one because you can get them for fairly cheap. about $200 bucks for the cheapest ones.
Dude, Hofner were never crap instruments, they are European made and originals from the time period are atleast 40 years old, and have a distinctive, alternate feel to American made and American-designed guitars, particularly modern instruments.
Old viola was Germany Hohfner musical instruments no Gibson, and also a crap instrument, Paul once said he use it due to light weight. This Epiphone believe me is way better than the original hofner.

thats probably a Hofner bass, like what Paul Mccartney really uses, but I warn you, I have a viola from epiphone and its TERRIBLE, you see in the video how he has a white wrapper on the bridge? it COMES LIKE THAT and being a floating bridge, one adjustment ruins it ALL, I've been to guitar center countless times and have spent at least 50$ total for adjustments... I spent my voucher on the wrong bass, NOT SUITED FOR CONSISTENT PLATYING. Yes I love the style but it's just not reliable enough
