I did an interview with Carlene a few years ago for an internet magazine and asked her what was her favorite song of her dad’s, Carl Smith … she said, “Loose Talk” and that the lyrics were pretty innovative for the time (mid 50’s). Very true. She also said she was very nervous about going into this recording session to do this duet with her dad -- that he jokingly told her she had “one chance to get it right.” They certainly “got it right.”
When I was a kid, weekends would find our house filled with musicians and the music they made. My mother and father sang lots of duets together, and this was one of them. In fact, among our friends and "pickin' buddies", it became a standard request It really sounds best when it's just the voices, an acoustic guitar, bass, and fiddle.
There is a video of them singing this song. They were on the Ralph Emery show singing it and did an interview with him as well. I cannot find it today..BUT I have seen it ! If anyone else can find it...please provide a link. Thank You !
This is Carlene singing with her dad Carl Smith this was recorded in 1995. If you listen close you can tell it is an older Carl Smith singing. Which is great as always. They sing great together.! Vivian

In 1953-54 was stationed on the USCG Cutter Boutwell at Brownsville Texas.
This song came out during that time,
don't know who the atrist was then (too much time in Matomoros (boys town) Mexico).
Carl and somebody did it in 1955. The album was "This Lady Loving Me".
Rebecca Smith aka Carlene Carter was born in 1955. Carl Smiths wife then was June Carter, Who later married Johnny Cash .

Love it! Carlene works very well with her father. I don't like Carl at all though. Sorry...
But this is a really great song with them two. I have it on Little Acts of Treason.

Great song, but the lyrics sure seem to take on a new meaning when it's sung by a father and daughter!
