I see you play it in D flat instead of C, which is what I do too. Most people I see play it in C, though the actual tuning in the song is somewhere in between C and D flat, and it sounds a bit closer to the D flat in my opinion. Does anyone know what key it was actually recorded in?
Hi- I love this song, especially the Interlude. I have many 70's songbooks with Layla, but have never found the "exit". BUT today I stopped in Barnes and Noble for a browse. I have never checked out their songbooks, but just happened to stumble upon the section. I FOUND IT!!! The book is "Play the Hits, Decade by Decade, 1970's." The song is 7 pages long, with 2 1/2 pages of the exit...I have been playing it all afternoon. It is beautiful. Hope this helps....
There are 3 songs that have great powerful , and beautiful piano parts. Obviously Layla and the ending to the original version. Summer at Highland Falls by Billy Joel, and Faithfully by Journey. These are my favorites. Feel free to argue.
Eric clapton wrote this song about patty boyd, it was writen by clapton not another band member. Also just to let you know tears in heaven is about Eric claptons son who fell out of a window and died, so please dont listen to retards who talk absolute shit lol
stop talking about jim gordon killing his mum! aaa! its an amazing love song with beautiful music and u guys are talkin about murdering some guy's mum! :P
cryofan, your right! The guy who wrote this song was Jim Gordon who was the drummer for Derek & The Dominos. I killed his mother with a hammer the DAY after he wrote the peice, I'm kind of obbsesd with Eric Clapton, that's why i know that.
To andymst3000, is there anyway you could do it again but put the camera in a place where you can see what your playing. I'm trying to figure out the song and I'm terrible @ reading music, thanks
by the way, the layla coda was not written by clapton, by by some other member of the dominoes, a little known person who later on murdered his mother because he was schizo
absoutly brilliant, awsome, best part of a brilliant tune can be played so loud over and over again without getting bored of the tune thanks for sharing
When I first heard llaro's cover of this song 3 years ago I loved it so much that I re-started the piano, and learned the whole thing without sheets, without tutorials. I ran back and forth b/w my computer and my piano, getting the keys by trial and error lol.
Now a days I've learned how to play just about any song via chords. Also, there is now a tutorial floating around on youtube for this song ;)
Wish it was there when I was trying to learn it hahaha
Hopefully this may help even though it is simple, but lots of people are confused by which are notes to play for the left hand on 00.25/00.26 seconds in the video. They are B flat and G sharp played together.
Very nice...this song could inspire anyone to play piano. Good job, miss that instrument in the background of the original though. Do you know what it is?
However, consider the gruelling pains of musical theory of ABRSM. I much enjoy practical and could do without musical theory from Grade 5 onwards thanks!!
Outstanding!!! The best I have heard!

You have quite a talent to play by ear. I do the same but I'm no where NEAR as good as you lol. Props.

lol dude, you wrote that you killed Jim Gordon's mother.
Connerthedrummer 2 years ago 8
1. You didn't kill his mother lol, he did
2. He didn't do it the day after he wrote the piece. The piece was written in 1970, he killed his mother in the 1980s
GaMeRuInEr 2 years ago 3
musicfreak41092 it wasn't the day after. This song originally came out in 1970. It was released again as a single in 1971 and 1972.
He killed his mother in 1983.

I am so envious, its scary.
How is it that so many people have posted this song on youtube, when the sheet music for it does not seem to exist?
Cassius10761 3 years ago
I actually don't know where the sheet music would be. I only play by ear and I can't read music, lol.
