  • Wind power? Sure but it only makes sense if there is enough wind, I'm not sure about the areas where mountain top mining happens has the wind needed for it to be worth it.

Electric cars, absolutely. There are guys locally here who have used deep cycle lead-acid batteries converting fairly lightweight cars for a few grand. Lead-acid usually only gives 20-30 miles reliably though. Lithium batteries would get you to 120 miles no problem. I'll fill you in in a few years when I convert a car.

  • The grid-tie equipment pricing comes at a high price to where it makes sense to fill a roof but there is far less payoff for just a single panel. Putting a dozen cheaper 200 watt panels for a 2400kw system would cover a little more than half the average use of a family who conserves there electricity a little bit and the payoff would likely be less than 10 years. In MN, feeding more back to the grid than you use pays you back at our retail rate(11c/kwh).

  • @GuruMN Wow, you did the math Adam:-) When I made this video, I was just grabbing for ideas to help pull us out of the hole we were in. Anyting seemed like a better idea than giving a bank Billions of dollars (I was right too).

  • THIS IS THe first time that i see your face..you look great my friend

    stay in touch

    MrBear13-Giovanni

  • I think you have a great idea on your hands!!

  • I thought so too:-)

  • LOL@ freekin raging hippie! I resemble that remark! Our home owner's association won't allow solare pannels...what's a girl to do? They most certainlly can make an affordable electric car! Love ya, Ang

  • Some of the best people Ive ever met are hippies!!! If easily financed solar panels cant be fitted to the roof of your building then a green space could be converted to a solar field and the power could be split up between the units. My plan would require a lot of give and take and may not even work completely but the benefits would far outweigh the costs.

I KNOW we could build an affordable electric car, weve had them on the road for over 100 years now!

  • Over here (UK ? Europe) the power companies makes millions in profit, yet they still keep putting the prices up.. also, they tell us to save power and use low energy lights et.c, which of'course the generate LESS income for the powercompanies / suppliers.. and so they yet again put the prices up! So even if you do save energy, it won't cut your costs.. If I could fit a solarpanel on my roof and a windmill in my garden, then I would.. :)

  • Our power companies make billions in profit here and they have a regional monopoly too! Im hoping they can find a way make a little money from the transmission of power instead of production. Thats the only way I can see them making the transition without a full on revolt!

  • Sooo your the one..

i have not done this one in yet.

Sounds like a good plan. It would be nice if everyone would agree on the same thing. Hummm! Sorry just thinking bout everyone being on the same page for just one thing :)

WOW You been really thinking bout this.

You know I think it comes down to who is making the all mighty dollar.

Ha ha ha you are a hippy :) A very cute hippy..

  • Yep, Im the one! Wait, which one am I?

I dont think everyone will ever be on the same page, but wouldnt it be great if we had the option to implement my ideas?

Yes, Im a hippie! But NO PACCULI!!! That shit makes me gag! :-)

  • I think the secret to getting off of coal is going to be a combination of many things, like wind and solar.

I think that the idea of having the power companies fund them is great.

We however pay a monthly fee to the power company to help them pay off their debts. It says debt retirement right on the bill. I still shake my head at that one.

  • We are paying to clean up a coal sludge spill at a power plant in East Tennessee that happened last month. The hike is anywhere from $15 to $40 depending on our usage. It all makes me so crazy!

  • Not everything can be underground. The industry needs to change that is for sure, I used to work for Duke Energy, and it was amazing.

  • Not everything but a vast majority could be put underground and then we wouldnt have all the power outages after ice and thunder storms.

  • We are all organic and green. (except for a hybrid car)

    Can't afford it.

  • I grow my own organic veggies and do what I can on the other fronts. I wish I had an electric car, but the one I have gets 30mpg:-) Every little bit helps!

  • I don't know enough about it but panels do not seem enough to send power back to the grid and measuring it, I am worried our houses would become like a small power plant.

Wind and solar are great but you can have fluctuations on both, clean coal are good as reserve, it might not be pretty but its better than financing the enemy.

  • Houses would become small power plants and all of it would be clean power. I know they wont be putting much back into the grid but just cutting our consumption would benefit us all. Im not saying this would shut down all of the coal fired plants, we will have them online for many more years to come. I just want them to stop blowing the tops off of mountains to get it.

  • That makes a lot of sense.

  • nice to see ya there daryl1 ;-) agree with you on this one.. good points,

  • Thanks Janet:-)

  • Good ideas Daryl! I don't think the electric utilities would go for financing the rooftop solar panels in a million years though, although with stiffer Carbon Dioxide emission regulations who knows. The electrical grid certainly needs a massive upgrade.

  • One thing that always stands out in my mind as far as the solar panels goes is that one of the first things that Ronald Regan did when he became president was rip Jimmy Carter's solar panels off the White House Roof. Ya think he got oil money campaign contributions? LOL.

  • I cant even say regans name without developing a sour taste in my mouth! We are still feeling the effects of his "voodoo economics".

  • We may have a chance, if we could convince the utilities that they can make money in the transport and delivery of electricity, while limiting thier production. I can dream cant I;-)

  • You have some great ideas. I hope our country is trying to move forward in some of the ideas you have mentioned. :)

  • Thanks Deb, if we can get the "clean coal" and nuclear lobbies out of Obamas butt we might be able to save ourselves!

  • very good points

    xoexo

  • Thanks you sweet thang:-)

  • im gonna have to do some more research on a bit of what you spoke of. i know we are in a crunch and it is gonna take lots of work and different things to get us through this safe and the least amount of resistance from those that are complacent.

    xoexo

  • I would love to see a video response when you are done with the research. Specifically on the issue of the complacent members of our society:-)

  • i have many of oppinons on this but you brought up a couple of things that i feel that might really not work for the aforementioned (though i assume you mean me in that) people. it has to be cost effective for the general public and finding ways to convince people that the few extra dollars will help them and further generations. not to mention the world we live in.

    xoexo

  • This is the dialogue I was looking for! What wont work and how can we make it work? Hashing out the details is the fun part of the process and if we do it right we could save the country and maybe the world:-)

  • You're crazy alright, just not about this ;) I think those were some really good ideas. I've seen the tops of the mountains you discussed and it really is sad.

    :~)

  • Its good to know there is still room for me at Belleview:-)

Thanks Clair, I have been concerned about MTR mining for a while now. Even more so since TVA has jacked up my electric bill to pay for the cleanup in East Tennessee. Cant wait to see your response on this!

  • I like the Idea of the wind turbines on the mountains. If we get enough of them they could be painted to look like landscape. One solar panel on every house is a great Idea. My house uses so much electricity I wouldn't be able to sell any back but thats okay.

  • Thanks Rhana! I thought it was a good way to deal with the job losses in coal country. It wont take care of all their problems but its a start. Even if you didnt sell any back, you could benefit by not paying nearly as much and by knowing that you didnt cause any harm by looking at youtube videos all day:-) When do we get another chapter of the book, the story was just getting good!

  • I think you have some very good ideas there Daryl. And most of them would work just as well in the UK too :)

  • Thanks Andy! I believe we should be exploiting all types of alternatives including tidal and geothermal. Just so long as there is no byproduct to be disposed of.

  • I agree. IMHO solar panels should be compulsory on all new house builds, even here in the UK :)

  • Agreed! Wherever the sun shines there should be a solar panel there to catch it!

  • I like all those ideas & I think you're crazy and one foot out of your mind like most good out of the box thinkers.

I don't think wind farms are ugly. I think a stack spewing black smoke is ugly. They have horizontal squirrel cage type wind mills that are every house friendly and require much less maintenance. It would be great if we got so good long distance power lines would be obsolete.

  • Thanks Dave! I like your analogy:-)

Ive seen those squirrel cage windmills in Mother Earth News. I think that we should be using any and all means of producing electricity besides coal and nuclear. We have been victims of their lobbyists for far too long!

  • That is a practical and well thought out response.

    No, you're not crazy.

  • Thanks Bob, some days Im sure the guys from Belleview are coming to pick me up :-)

  • oh you mean business :D You got a list! I thinkyour idea is great!

I myself have not researched enough to give a response but maybe help one another. I know that would make a difference too.

I am ashamed that I have not researched this much but, I have too many other things to worry about LOL for now anyway like 15 doc apt to get dis so I can be atleast poor LOL (gotta laugh)

  • Ima DORK! This stuff has been rolling around in my head for a long time, I just put it all together for this video. I just wish someone who could do something would listen! No need for shame baby, you got more important stuff to take care of. Good luck on being poor, I know you can do it! LOL

    Love ya:-)

  • our electric lines are buried here in Switzerland, I liked your response. I see that you had something concrete in mind. I just didn't know where to start so I gave more of my philosophy since I had no answers that would be followed by the majority. great but really difficult topic !

  • I heard that they were buried in most European countries after WWII and it seemed perfectly logical to me, we defy logic all the time here. I really was looking for solid answers when I submitted the question. I see your answer is more of a long term goal, I am far to cynical to think something like helping your fellow man will happen any time soon. Thanks DC:-)

  • yup and the rain SUCKS...yeah the burying of power lines is a better idea than the ones above ground. they should be converted in some areas. dude the goverment wouldnt let there be all those solar panels. they would lose too much money. good response. i like the ideas.

    -toMMy-

  • I know it will never happen, but I also know IT WOULD WORK!!! Nobody ever listens to me:-)

    Hows the car running?

  • its running good, i just finished working on it two days ago and shes running like a clock. i love it. her name is "The Bitch". there are alot of reasons for that though.

    -toMMy-

  • Im glad to hear "The Bitch" is back. With as much money and time spent working on her its no wonder you call her that!

  • lol well theres that, but theres another reason why it just stuck, and it was before i started working on her. the second time my injectors clogged i was going to the auto place to have them blown out and i was listening to metal all the way there. well 15 mins before i got there i put in a country cd and as soon as the first song played one of the injectors cleared up half way and i said "you really are The Bitch" and it just stuck lol

    -toMMy-

  • LOL, thats too funny!!!

Why didnt you put my Samurai back in the shop? turd!

  • lol my bad. i forgot to. i was so happy my car was running again it slipped my mind. did you put it back or is it still next to the garage?

    -toMMy-

  • Its still sitting out, I will get it tomorrow when I go home.

  • ok, cool...do you think there will be alot of downed brances in granny's yard?

    -toMMy-

  • With all this wind today, Im sure of it! We are thinking of doing tacos and burritos tomorrow, you coming up?

  • ok i'll head over there around 4ish and start picking up. are you watching the race?
