  • this video is a life saver! :D

  • nice

  • Thanks Dude!

  • Did you purchase a new motherboard or refurbished? I have the same model notebook. What would you suggest?

  • awesome video jon! thumbs up!!

  • Thank you for the step by step process. You make it looks very easy : )

  • Thank you!

  • Hi Jon, i was wondering if you could help me out. Ive taken apart my Hp Pavilion Dv2000, i think its a slighty older version then the one you are working on in the video. I'm now putting it back together, i just dusted it out, because it wouldn't turn on. Do you think its power button that is toast or the heat sink & fan?

  • VERY helpful, but, the GPU causes this problem. You can fix it yourself, but it requires some research and probably a trip to the hardware store and an even greater possibility of screwing up.

I didn't do this, but I went to the trouble of putting a copper shim in that would allow heat to transfer from the GPU to the sink.

If you look carefully when you re-attach the heat-sink, you'll see that it doesn't come down far enough to touch the GPU. HP used a small piece of foam that doesn't work.

  • great video changed out motherboard and is working great now thanks!

  • does anyone know how many inches the hard drive is?

  • Thank you Jon. I used your videos to help me install a new CPU in my HP Pavillion DV2028.

Very nervous but it came out fine. I write this message on the laptop that was upgraded! Thanks again.

  • my MGySgt was about to throw his away but after seeing your video I think I'll give him his old (hopfully working) machine. thanks bra!!

  • could have been helpful if you could speak properly, very low wispering voice

  • May I ask where you purchased the replacement motherboard?

  • @JJay083

In this instance, I dealt with a trusted seller through ebay to receive a used board. There are many folks who strip working parts from toss-aways and resell them. Look for sellers who give a lot of information about the item and provide guarantees in the event of receiving a dead part or one that fails your stress testing.

New parts can usually be ordered direct from the manufacturer or from online vendors. I recommend Newegg for interchangeable parts.

  • This video was a very big help. I can fix my old laptop

  • Wow! I'll never look at a laptop the same way! It's so impressive how you memorized where each and every little connector goes and everything!

It was the coolest thing when the Windows screen popped up at the end with the sound! I was like "HUZZAH! My Jonny conquereth!"

Keep rockin' the repairs, Mr. Awesome!
