  • Does anyone know if the names of the singers are on this album cover? My mother sang with this choir during the 50s with Prof. Dawson and Id love to know if she is on the cover photo. Unfortunatley I really cant tell. This is when HBCU choirs were really singing with discipline and skill! I love it!!

  • @MrAlwilliams3 The names were not listed on the album and I've sold it on ebay. So sorry.

  • @gospellin thanks so much for your response!

  • Beautiful, Powerful!!

  • nicely done.

  • Beautiful, just beautiful! One correction though, it's William L. Dawson, not Warner.

  • @GoldenTigress08 thanks

  • I enjoyed this so much. It brings back my own memories of working with Dawson in 1980 while at All-State College Chorus at Emory University. I have never heard anyone extract the exact sound he could from his arrangements, and it was extremely challenging and exhilarating..

  • BEAUTIFUL. Praise the Lord.

  • Awwwwww now this is the sound that I've been seeking out this whole time the other choirs posted just can't touch this.

  • I remember singing this song during my freshman year at Tuskegee Univ. back in 2000. Mr. Jackson made sure we had those notes on point.

  • I wish that my generation could sing the music of our race with such conviction and power. This is true Tuskegee Spirit!

  • Have not seen this album cover for years! My father sang on this album with Dawson and I grew up listening to this wonderful music. Such power and musicianship.

  • @drporch Precious Memories

  • I love this arrangement of Dett's..why do the men sound so "covered"

  • I Love this concer spiritual. my church still sings this!

  • this was stunning. conducted by the composer himself.

  • @crunkcymbals09 I believe is conducted by William L Dawson.R.Nathaniel Dett, the composer, had already passed away by the time this was recorded if I'm not mistaken

  • @dapro06 he lived from 1899-1990.

  • @crunkcymbals09 I was actually referring to Dett who passed in 1943

  • robert e lee performed this song at our negro spurital consert

  • As a little boy, I used to actually Dr. Dawson's choir practicing this song on campus in the 1950's. To hear their voices carrying outside across the trees and fields really made you feel eerie, I can't sing a lick so I appreciate people who can hold a note!

  • Awesome post!

  • I love the sound of this.
