Anyone own an slg-21-62? i just ordered one at the gun shop and i'm trying to decide whether or not i should kick myself for going plum or if i'm going to gamble and win on this one lol
Pretty funny to see that the sgl21 and sgl31 both have the same barrels. HMMMMMM, why would I want that thin barrel overheating sending 7.62 rounds down range? If Im going to spend a grand I want the right size barrel for the caliber. Something you might want to put in your next review nut'n.
@nutnfancy have you tested the ultimak top rail? I was just wondering if it would affect harmonics and accuracy like the MI rail did. thanks! love your videos! great reviews!!

As I'm looking at my SGL's I have a VERY good reason why I would never buy a Saiga and have it converted, don't know HOW those GREAT elves at Arsenal do this but they take the sporting model's and make them have dimples, get rid of the original trigger pin holes, and h.guard hole(maybe they come in w/out trigger groups or handguard installed). As I was looking at a converted Saiga,it had no dimples, pins in hole's from o.g. trigger pins w/hole in front of magwell, 2nd kind of cool thing for me.
@reeseman67 And when I say 'get rid' of he sporting trigger pins and hole from sporting forearm in front of magwell, I mean I've studied both and there were never holes even drilled, at least I cannot detect them, this is what seperate's Arsenal from other's that do conversion's and other shop's that do Saiga conversion's. The other's typically have -74 break, 90 degree g.block, Bulgy furniture, etc, but they arent dimpled, and have pins filling o.g. trigger pins, and hole in front of magwell.
@RUT600 It's a Bulgarian AK-74 bayonet, if you have an SGL or a -74 style a regular -47 bayonet does not fit, need -74 bayo's. Can get it at K-var.com but I'd check the internet as they're REAL EXPENSIVE from K-var, got mine for about $20 which I think is a fair price for it, great and LIGHTWEIGHT bayonet!!
@Rob919Gore I reccomend BLACKHAWK!. If i were you I would consider getting a S.T.R.I.K.E vest and popping some of the AK mag pouches on there. Add an IFAK, Camelbak etc etc and you have an excellent system. But you know, that's just me...
Can anyone give me a brief difference between these 3 arsenals SGLs if they know? SGL31-61, SGL31-47, SGL31-67. Is it just cosmetic differences or anything that effects performance?
Arsenal rifles are great but if you can get your hands on a Norinco Ak DO IT. Thicker receiver and barrel than the SGL series, great crisp triggers too, also chrome lined, damn chinese AK's are the shit. lol

I am strongly opposed to Arsenal, all they do is buy crates of saigas, import them from russia to Las vegas, put all the crap you or I could do yourself and charge twice the price. I got my SAIGA for $430 and put all the things I personally wanted on the gun and did the conversion myself. For around $200 bucks more in personalized parts i have what looks like the OD green ak at the beginnig of this vid, and I had fun doing it. Not arguing the quality, just that these are marked up saigas.
@steve001968 Well if an additional $300+ qualifies as "almost" then you would be right but at $879 (at a local retailer) + dros+ tax and you are looking at close to a grand. ill take my personalized genuine ak over that any day.
@streakfighter 879 is over priced. I can get pre ban Norinco 56S's for that. My SGL was $625 new and local. I also don't see how you do the conversion for $200. The furniture and front end parts would be more than that and then you still have FCG parts and refinishing. Granted you could use a lot better finish than Arsenal.

AFAIK it designates a rilfe equipped with a side rail for the NSPU type night vision sights. How or if the rail differs from the side rail on other AK variants I don't know.

I think I figured out the true goal of the NutnFancy Project. It’s not simply to provide honest product reviews. Nutn helps put a nice face to the firearms enthusiast and helps deliver public perception away from the stereotypical survivalist weirdo. I'm not knocking survivalists but if you’re in the survivalist community you probably have a friend you would consider a little off so to speak. Nutn’s videos help grow the gun community by making firearms and weapon drills a topic of conversation.
They are probably among the best of the current sorry crop of AK`'s. For what that's worth. Sustained fire doesn't take long to melt the hand guards and common brake cleaners and other solvents will eat the cheap far from mil-spec finish off.They are far inferior to pre-ban Norincos, Polytechs, and with the exception of the chrome lined barrels, pre-ban Yugos.
I don't know what it is about these particular guns but I I've always thought AK's were ugly and old fashioned looking but these are just neat. I definately want one! hoping to get an SGL21 and find a good folding stock to throw on it if possible.

Re-Watching while 'fondling' my SGL-21(71, NATO is NECESSARY if above 5'10). I LOVE IT! Test target included, suprised even me w/level of accuracy out of a 7.62x39 platform(one .85" cloverleaf!) Russian Bbl steel is TOPS! Really leaning towards another, a -74 style 5.45 AK-platform to replace my old SAR-2(DOH!!)! Forget the accuracy they're REALLY capable of, and this looks IDENTICAL to the Russian 74's I've seen! The quality, reliability & accuracy make this #1 4 my 1st AND 2nd type of cool!:)

Got my SGL 21.... It is AWESOME!! Gas block straight, front sight straight, Russian style enamel finish... LOVE IT! Actually glad it comes with the 5-rnd mag for benchrest shooting as I have enough 30-rnders and wouldn't spend the $20 on a 5-round mag when I could buy two 30-rnds for same cost. Cant say enough about this fine rifle!!! Test target too, top tier AR manufacturers don't even do that, this thing ROCKS!! Next... Yep, a 31!! Love Arsenal, bringing the TRUE AK-platform to the U.S.A.!
@SterlingMedal They are made the same except for the caliber so they are basically a toss up. Guns arent really and investment in the sense they gain value, some guns can, most dont. The only thing you have going for you is a possible ban on AKs which would make them more valuable, but that may not ever happen so I wouldn't base my decision on that. Another thing to consider is 47 ammo is more expensive, but 74 ammo is corrosive and imported so a Ban would render that gun useless.
@MattsMisc That all depends what you have and who you sell it too. If you buy a Glock for example, you wont ever get what you paid for it new if you sell it used. Same thing with most guns really, only collectables or guns that get discontinued ever really go up in value. Most guns used sell for less. That is if you ever want to sell them, I like to collect mine. I usually only trade them for other guns I want.
@pac6010 Same here, I'll 'swap/trade one for another'! Sold WASR-10, paid the difference to get SGL-21 (to replace the WASRs' POU, advantage of ammo cost/availability, had a dozen mags from WASR-times) so I decided to 'upgrade', IMHO that is. Love this one I tell you what! But, yea you usually will lose $ regardless of the gun, especially if YOU are asking others or Iike when I WASNT TRYING, I sold my WASR for $450, I'd paid $300 even 4-yrs prior, just happened to hear friend say he wanted one.
@reeseman67 I was thinking of buying a wasar to mess around with but I can only get them locally for around $550, for that price I might as well save up buy an arsenal. I used to have an m-7 with the milled receiver WAYY back. Bought it for $700 but I had to sell it for that same price when I lost my job. Sadly now they got for 2k, needless to say I will regret that forever, now I dont sell anything lol. I ever lose my job again I will be homeless with a box full of guns : )

@pac6010 I LOVE it. Very high quality Russian AK. I haven't had ONE jam or anything since i got it. I barely clean it as well. The muzzle break is very high quality and helps keep your shots on target when your firing rapidly. I've seen the other tapco muzzle breaks and they look pretty cheap to me, they may function fine but who knows. But its a very good AK.
@pac6010 "Guns arent really and investment in the sense they gain value" Yeah, that's why a Chinese 56-S that sold for $150 in 1987 sells for $1000 or more now and a Romanian SAR-X that sold for $250.00 5 years ago sells for $600+ now. A HK-91 that sold for $400 in the 80's is now worth $2K+. Hell even WASR's have doubled in value since they appeared on the market.

Been thinking about buying the SGL21. Trying to find out what size butt-stock would work best. Warsaw with Length of Pull: 12.625 in. or NATO with Length of Pull: 14 in. I did the common length of pull measurement on myself & I am at 13.2 in. Any thoughts on this would be great. Thanks. Nice review.

As it is, the Arsenal (which I have) is as close as I can get to that. It is imported into this country (from Russia) as a politically-correct Saiga sporter (i.e., no muzzle brake, pistol grip, bayonet lug, ect.) and then using *US-made parts*, is reconfigured by Arsenal, USA into a fully-featured AK as Mikhail Kalashnikov and God intended it to be.

So if a Colt whatever were used to takeout somebody you know you wouldn't buy any Colt products? I got news for you: Every single firearm manufacturer in the world's weapons have been misused by numerous people. The US government is the biggest arms exporter in the world. Those weapons aren't used as paper weights.
@Hip48Xn3 The US is the biggest arms exporter in the world. 4 out of the top 5, Britain, France, Germany and the US, are all NATO countries. Russia is the only one that isn't. There are plenty of G3's, M16's and other weapons used in regional conflicts all over the world. Chinese type 56's are probably the most prevalent AK's in third world conflicts not Bulgarian or Russian. If you are looking for a weapon that isn't misused by anybody, good luck.
1st off i want to say that the ak platform is proven. it is battle tested no doubt. but my problem with the ak, no matter who produced it, is that it is the bad guys gun. remember the movie "lord of war"? i feel if i bought an ak, especially one from parts of either chinese or russia, i would be supporting "GLOBAL TERRORISM". i would feel like im contributing to an industry that arms evil. i would only buy an AK that is 100% american made or by a company that is independant from the bad guys.

The other's typically have -74 break, 90 degree g.block, Bulgy furniture, etc, but they arent dimpled, and have pins filling o.g. trigger pins, and hole in front of magwell.

@RUT600 It's a Bulgarian AK-74 bayonet, if you have an SGL or a -74 style a regular -47 bayonet does not fit, need -74 bayo's. Can get it at K-var.com but I'd check the internet as they're REAL EXPENSIVE from K-var, got mine for about $20 which I think is a fair price for it, great and LIGHTWEIGHT bayonet!!

I am strongly opposed to Arsenal, all they do is buy crates of saigas, import them from russia to Las vegas, put all the crap you or I could do yourself and charge twice the price. I got my SAIGA for $430 and put all the things I personally wanted on the gun and did the conversion myself. For around $200 bucks more in personalized parts i have what looks like the OD green ak at the beginnig of this vid, and I had fun doing it. Not arguing the quality, just that these are marked up saigas.

@streakfighter 879 is over priced. I can get pre ban Norinco 56S's for that. My SGL was $625 new and local. I also don't see how you do the conversion for $200. The furniture and front end parts would be more than that and then you still have FCG parts and refinishing. Granted you could use a lot better finish than Arsenal.

They are probably among the best of the current sorry crop of AK`'s. For what that's worth. Sustained fire doesn't take long to melt the hand guards and common brake cleaners and other solvents will eat the cheap far from mil-spec finish off.They are far inferior to pre-ban Norincos, Polytechs, and with the exception of the chrome lined barrels, pre-ban Yugos.

Re-Watching while 'fondling' my SGL-21(71, NATO is NECESSARY if above 5'10). I LOVE IT! Test target included, suprised even me w/level of accuracy out of a 7.62x39 platform(one .85" cloverleaf!) Russian Bbl steel is TOPS! Really leaning towards another, a -74 style 5.45 AK-platform to replace my old SAR-2(DOH!!)! Forget the accuracy they're REALLY capable of, and this looks IDENTICAL to the Russian 74's I've seen! The quality, reliability & accuracy make this #1 4 my 1st AND 2nd type of cool!:)

Got my SGL 21.... It is AWESOME!! Gas block straight, front sight straight, Russian style enamel finish... LOVE IT! Actually glad it comes with the 5-rnd mag for benchrest shooting as I have enough 30-rnders and wouldn't spend the $20 on a 5-round mag when I could buy two 30-rnds for same cost. Cant say enough about this fine rifle!!! Test target too, top tier AR manufacturers don't even do that, this thing ROCKS!! Next... Yep, a 31!! @SterlingMedal They are made the same except for the caliber so they are basically a toss up. Guns arent really and investment in the sense they gain value, some guns can, most dont. The only thing you have going for you is a possible ban on AKs which would make them more valuable, but that may not ever happen so I wouldn't base my decision on that. Another thing to consider is 47 ammo is more expensive, but 74 ammo is corrosive and imported so a Ban would render that gun useless.

@MattsMisc That all depends what you have and who you sell it too. If you buy a Glock for example, you wont ever get what you paid for it new if you sell it used. Same thing with most guns really, only collectables or guns that get discontinued ever really go up in value. Most guns used sell for less. That is if you ever want to sell them, I like to collect mine. I usually only trade them for other guns I want.

Sold WASR-10, paid the difference to get SGL-21 (to replace the WASRs' POU, advantage of ammo cost/availability, had a dozen mags from WASR-times) so I decided to 'upgrade', IMHO that is. Love this one I tell you what! But, yea you usually will lose $ regardless of the gun, especially if YOU are asking others or Iike when I WASNT TRYING, I sold my WASR for $450, I'd paid $300 even 4-yrs prior, just happened to hear friend say he wanted one.

I used to have an m-7 with the milled receiver WAYY back. Bought it for $700 but I had to sell it for that same price when I lost my job. @pac6010 I LOVE it. Very high quality Russian AK. I haven't had ONE jam or anything since i got it. I barely clean it as well. The muzzle break is very high quality and helps keep your shots on target when your firing rapidly. I've seen the other tapco muzzle breaks and they look pretty cheap to me, they may function fine but who knows. But its a very good AK.

A HK-91 that sold for $400 in the 80's is now worth $2K+. Hell even WASR's have doubled in value since they appeared on the market.

Been thinking about buying the SGL21. Trying to find out what size butt-stock would work best. Warsaw with Length of Pull: 12.625 in. or NATO with Length of Pull: 14 in. Aside from testing reliability and ergonomics from that position it's also method of training in the scenario that you might have to make a shot like that, also the reason they shoot off hand in TW to develop muscle memory in the event that you strong side trigger hand is injured you can still fight with your weak side

@bjggjb not once did i say ban. never!!!! don't put words in my mouth. i said boycott. like if ruger/hk/sig/glock sold arms to bin laden like the russians who also sell to companies like arsenal. then yes i would say boycott those assholes too. i never said ban. that would give our goverment too much power. see, when you boycott, then that's power of the PEOPLE to not support something they dont believe in. if arsenal was 100% american made. i would say different. save a US soldier dont buy AK's

@Hip48Xn3 hmmm i think you forget we fought a proxy war with Russia when they were in Afghanistan. Case in point a lot of the munitions used against our troops are also "AMERICAN MADE". I'm quiet sure that the weapon that shot down the chopper carrying the Seal team was an American made stinger missile. You actually believe that the arms we shipped them disappeared in the 90's after the conflict? Im calling bs on that sir.

Our guns are killing our troops just as much as Russian, and i actually highly doubt they send weapons to Afghanistan, Russian troops are in Afghanistan too now. I'm blaming Iran, Saudi Arabia and the like. Russia is hardly the enemy it makes itself out to be. Even saying i just want to buy American. Well you are supporting an American Company, that makes that argument invalid also.

@Hip48Xn3 my bad i didn't mean guns, i ment munitions in general. but regardless, this doesn't mean they got it from Russia dude. An AK is the most famous gun "IN-THE-WORLD" Hands down no contest. The AK is made by so many foreign companies that you can't say it's Russian anymore. China makes their own, the Slavic states make their own, Poland makes their own, Saudi Arabia makes their own. Yes it's the same "design" but it's not truly Russian. But still, how many are killed with guns now?

@GrenMoyo i would say most troops are killed by ied's. which are made from anything they can get their hands on. i don't like the idea of supporting all the countries that hate america's guts with the purchase of their weapons while the same companies double dip and sell/give simultaneously to our enemies. which would be all the counties you just named plus a few more. they all cheered on 9/11. no one was there to help us. and we support that by buying their weapons and ammo. that is unarguable.

@Hip48Xn3 The American one of course (provided it was made to proper military (read: Russian) specifications.
As it is, the Arsenal (which I have) is as close as I can get to that. It is imported into this country (from Russia) as a politically-correct Saiga sporter (i.e., no muzzle brake, pistol grip, bayonet lug, ect.) and then using *US-made parts*, is reconfigured by Arsenal, USA into a fully-featured AK as Mikhail Kalashnikov and God intended it to be.
So, there you have it. Satisfied???

There is not any 100% American made AK. As long as surplus parts and sporterized foreign made AK rifles are available there won't be either.

I got news for you: Every single firearm manufacturer in the world's weapons have been misused by numerous people. The US government is the biggest arms exporter in the world. Those weapons aren't used as paper weights.

@Hip48Xn3 The US is the biggest arms exporter in the world. 4 out of the top 5, Britain, France, Germany and the US, are all NATO countries. Russia is the only one that isn't. There are plenty of G3's, M16's and other weapons used in regional conflicts all over the world. Chinese type 56's are probably the most prevalent AK's in third world conflicts not Bulgarian or Russian. If you are looking for a weapon that isn't misused by anybody, good luck.

1st off i want to say that the ak platform is proven. it is battle tested no doubt. but my problem with the ak, no matter who produced it, is that it is the bad guys gun. remember the movie "lord of war"? i feel if i bought an ak, especially one from parts of either chinese or russia, i would be supporting "GLOBAL TERRORISM". i would feel like im contributing to an industry that arms evil. i would only buy an AK that is 100% american made or by a company that is independant from the bad guys.

If you bought a Chinese AK legally it would be used and would have entered the country years ago since they've been banned from importation for years so since it was already sold years ago by Norinco or whatever Chinese interest manufactured it how does the second hand purchase have ANY effect on global terrorism?
